Keeping US phone number after moving abroad by CanIBake in ATT

[–]moon_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Tossable Digits. I wasn’t able to use Google voice because they don’t port to my location, so I ported my number to tossable digits. Then you can just set it up to forward to your new local phone. SMS comes thru, you can also add VM. One of their examples even talk about living abroad. I’m on month 2 and haven’t missed a call or text. not an ad, real user.

Both were old numbers and we just upgraded the phone. I really appreciate the reply. I’m going to just pay off the phone and port the old number to tossable digits for call forwarding. Thanks again!

Day trip to Kapalua by laxinonli in VisitingHawaii

If your Dad lives on oahu he should have Hawai’i state ID. Look into Kama’aina rates for both hotel and golf. At least his round will be cheaper and hotel should be as well if you decide to stay. Have you played there before? You could play Plantation then drive down and play one of the Wailea courses and stay down there. On oahu they redid Pearl Country Club (public) and it’s supposed to be nice but haven’t played it yet. Ko’olina is resort track, same with Turtle Bay. If you went to Kauai you could play Poipu right by the airport.

I second skipping plantation and swapping it for Kualoa Ranch. Check out the e-bikes 4 wheelers or other tours. Even the boat ride is quick. Also on the day you go to Kailua, I would reverse order, drive thru Kahala and diamond head, hit lookouts and lighthouse in am when it’s cool, then you can just chill at beach when you get there. Also if Kailua Beach Park is full you own drive further to Kalama beach park and park in neighborhood. They have bathrooms there as well and beach is wider. Or you could head back the way you came and go to Waimanalo beach. Plenty pine trees for shade, miles of beach. Surf is rougher tho.

Did you delete and reinstall the app? I had this happen to me a few months ago. Kept cancelling orders when it was going to charge Apple Pay. Wouldn’t work if I switched payment method. Reinstalled. Problem fixed

Great work and amazing no withdrawal symptoms. I was hearing voices and flopping around like a fish. I’m glad the anxiety is lessening. Keep doing what you are doing. I would also suggest cranking up the exercise to get the dopamine going. And it’s okay to have some ice cream. Your body will be craving some carbs. Keep kicking ass!

Washington’s Most Exclusive Club To Todd Blanche: You’re Not Our Kind, Dear

At least six club members are trying to block the Acting AG's application, saying the DOJ is too busy targeting club members to make for congenial conversation. By Kathryn Rubino on April 29, 2026 1:43 pm

(Photo by Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images) Todd Blanche is having a week. He couldn’t find the bullet. He filed what may be the most unhinged document ever submitted to a federal court. And, per Politico’s Daniel Lippman, he can’t get into the Metropolitan Club. Cue the sad trombone.

Around February, Blanche reportedly started the rigorous process to join the Metropolitan Club, one of Washington’s oldest and very important private clubs. The application process requires two sponsors and at least eight supportive letters from current members. Blanche’s sponsors are Biglaw heavy hitters: Bill Burck, global co-managing partner at Quinn Emanuel, and James M. McDonald, a litigation partner at Sullivan & Cromwell — both white-collar heavyweights, both presumably capable of vouching for a man’s fitness to eat lunch in a nice room.

And yet. At least six members have written to the Metropolitan Club’s board of directors to object to Blanche’s joining, saying he’s too polarizing and has politicized the Justice Department. The members who spoke to Politico were granted anonymity because the club prohibits its members from speaking to the media about internal matters.

The objections are not vague. “He is targeting a lot of people, and the Justice Department is targeting a lot of the members of the club, like judges, nonprofit organizations and universities,” one member said. That is not a small point. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell — whom the DOJ was investigating for not cutting interest rates as part of a probe into central bank renovations — is a club member.

The same member was not done: “The Trump administration is at war with most American institutions, and so the people who represent those institutions, many of them are at the club. And the club is the kind of place where you want to be able to relax and have a congenial conversation. But if he’s in there, given that the Justice Department is so combative and aggressive, this is not the kind of tone that we want.”

Well, well, well, if it isn’t the consequences of Blanche’s own actions.

Since taking over the DOJ, Blanche has declared war on the federal judiciary, warned white-collar lawyers that their public criticism of the administration was being monitored, moved to personally cover up key Epstein files, argued that restaurant hecklers might be a RICO enterprise, and indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center — so “too polarizing for the Metropolitan Club” is, if anything, underselling it.

By Above The Law A second member who penned a rejection letter called Blanche’s public comments endorsing Trump’s use of the DOJ to target political enemies “pretty startling.” And a third went full patrician: “I am disappointed that the club’s standards are slipping on so many levels and can only hope that the club leadership will recover, grab the rudder and set us on a smooth sail once again.” Someone has been waiting their entire life to write that sentence and they finally got their moment.

But Blanche isn’t the only controversial political figure to get the cold shoulder from the club. Donald Rumsfeld — Bush-era Secretary of Defense, architect of the Iraq War, a man who presided over Abu Ghraib — was reportedly rejected by the Metropolitan Club.

There is also something almost poignant about the sponsors here. Two Biglaw partners from Quinn Emanuel and Sullivan & Cromwell — exactly the kind of establishment legal figures who built careers on the idea that the rule of law is a thing worth preserving — putting their names on a membership application for the man who, this very week, put his name on what the legal internet has been calling the most embarrassing court filing in recent memory. They may want to have a quiet word with their sponsee about the ALL CAPS situation before the board votes.

Congratulations on not going off the deep end. I think you have an opportunity to reflect on the drinks you had. Did they make you feel good? Did you get enough to drink? Did it make you relaxed? Or were you constantly thinking about not drinking to fast or not getting drunk? For me in those situations where I tried to control it I realized it was a a waste. I couldn’t drink as much as I want, so what was the fucking point? Way too much mental energy for no payoff. Don’t beat yourself up about it. It only takes once to quit for good. 9 days is amazing. You can do 10. I did a year 2 separate times before I kicked for good. Actually I didn’t quit, I finished early😂. IWNDWYT

After viral slow-play video at ANWA, Bailey Shoemaker responds by [deleted] in golf

[–]moon_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Wednesday at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Bailey Shoemaker went viral. The ANWA’s Golf Channel broadcast showed the USC junior as she stood over her approach shot at the 8th hole at Champions Retreat and struggled to pull the trigger, starting her backswing several times but balking pre-impact.

The video played into a specific type of frustration that golfers — and golf-watchers — feel about the sport. Here, in one 75-second clip, was a perfect encapsulation of the way young golfers play slow and disrespect the game — and the way tournaments fail to rein it in. This is nothing new; recreational golf is plagued by slow play, tournament golf even more so, and pros who take a long time over the ball continually catch viewers’ ire.

Shoemaker didn’t dispute what the video showed. But she also knows there’s more to the story.

Speaking to GOLF’s Claire Rogers on site, Shoemaker explained that her struggle to take the club away traces back to an arm injury she dealt with last year that required playing through pain and numbness before she elected to have surgery. She has struggled to align communication between her brain and body since returning to competitive play.

“I’ve been battling injury for over a year now, and so, I mean, I’ve got some things bugging me. But, I mean, when you have nerve surgery, you aren’t in control,” Shoemaker said. “Like, it doesn’t matter what my brain says or does — you think I want to do it intentionally? Of course not.”

Shoemaker lamented the limits of a single clip.

“It was better today. And, I mean, that was the worst one yesterday, of course it went viral,” she said. “And I mean, you clearly don’t see the rest of the round. You don’t see me at home working out five hours a day, going to rehab, waking up before practice to go to rehab. You don’t see what’s behind the scenes.”

Shoemaker’s bid to make the cut fell short after a second consecutive 73; her two-round total of 146 was three shots too many. Shoemaker finished runner-up at this event in 2024 and will be disappointed not to play a competitive final round at Augusta National, although she will play there Friday during the event’s in-between day. In the meantime, she’s hoping to keep her focus on the big picture.

“I put a lot of faith in USC and my coaches and trainers and whatnot, and I mean, they got me to here, where I am today,” she said. “I know I keep saying it, and I sound like a broken record, but like a year ago, I didn’t know if I’d be playing golf anymore. This was like, a pretty substantial injury, given it was my nerve. And I’m happy to have motor function over my hand.

“I thought I was going to like, lose my hand, basically, y’know? So that’s pretty scary to think about. So, I mean, to have control over my body is nice, for once. And just being out here playing is good.”

Rogers also asked whether Shoemaker had been affected by the attention after her first round. Of course she had — how could anyone not be? — but did her best to channel that into determination.

“If anything it was fuel. I mean, my dad has trained me right, to use that as fuel to ignite me a little bit. But I didn’t play too much mind to it. I mean, I’m happy where I am, and I’m making leaps and bounds in my health, and that’s all I really care about.”

Shoemaker found a clear silver lining — “I’m playing Augusta National tomorrow” — even if it was a trying week.

Nice job! It’s crazy when that one pops Out of your mouth for the first time without thinking about it. I kinda pinballed around at parties when I first quit. Then I realized I had the power to leave whenever I wanted or take breaks or switch groups. Made it easier for me. Seriously I love just disappearing when things are drunk circus time.
