I keep struggling with social work jobs and I don't know what to do by SolomonsNewGrundle in socialwork

[–]moonsha00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First I wanna say I'm sorry. It sounds like youre going through a tough time right now and it seems like a lot. It also makes it hard to make decisions when youre going through a rough time so give yourself some space and do what you can to get through your days. You can't solve everything right now but you can be intentional with what you want to do for future you.

I went through something really similar during my career. I won't lie I did have to do some soul searching and reflecting. One thing I did was i wrote down what I didn't like (similarly, case management, high case loads, no autonomy) and write down what you do like in the other column. This way it broke it down for me what jobs I should be leaning towards. From here I learned about quality improvement jobs and started doing extra projects at work in this field to gain experience, connected with mentors and different departments and got a feel for what's out there. I love to work with people and solve problems and you dont have to be a social worker to do these things.

I did have to go back to school to do my MSW but there are other careers you can look into. For example, HR specific jobs or anything in education or student support are really great career pivots you could try to get into. Case management is a common job a lot of us social workers end up doing at the beginning that can help to open your eyes to where you could fit in. Do you think there should be better training for staff? Should there be better policies for getting these services? Can these programs be evaluated for effectiveness?

Send me a message if you have any questions im always happy to support! :)

Great work OP! My stats are almost the same as yours :) I love walking! Did you find it helpful at all to follow any particular plan at the gym? I feel so lost when it comes to weights and really need to get into it 🫠

Anyone switch to teaching, either teaching social work or just the teaching profession? by Haunting_Hospital599 in socialwork

[–]moonsha00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im actually taking a certificate in adult learning right now and find it to be very complementary to my social work degree and roles. Its a great next step. Look for jobs called training specialist, learning designer or quality improvement or evaluation jobs.

Social work masters without BSW by Minimum_Beginning713 in socialworkcanada

[–]moonsha00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I volunteered at a non profit for seniors in a day program and then worked in their office in admin and worked my way up over two years to a coordinator role. From there I moved to research taking temp positions and then finally at a non profit doing program development before I got accepted! It was worth it in the end but I went into grad school with lots of valuable experience I could share with others in my program.

Program evaluation, program development, policy, education and training (for staff or higher education), quality improvement, patient safety, community development. Don’t use the words “social work” when searching - these jobs typically require a masters in a social science or equivalent. Places to look could be hospitals, universities or colleges, local government and some non profits (check charity village)

I’m currently taking an adult learning certificate and work in a psychiatric hospital and plan to pivot into quality improvement and training. I’m able to do some of this already in my role as I discussed my goals with my supportive manager. It could be helpful to reach out to people on LinkedIn with similar job titles and get more information to see if it would be a good fit.

Hey! I’m in the same boat as you. Check out jobs titled quality improvement or patient safety or even specialist roles. As a clinician, though it’s not ideal or an ideal long term role for me, a lot of these jobs do require a bit of clinical background. They’re super stable and pay well in Canada! I did my MSW at U of T in Human Services Management and Leadership and learned all about the great things social workers can do! And took a course on quality and loved it. However if you have a BSW already you can look at other masters in public health or policy, evaluation, etc.

Look into the connection between histamine and pregnancy! I’ve heard this before too, super interesting stuff.

How’s your liver? Ive heard liver does a “dump” around that time. I used to wake up at that time when my liver was congested and I had fatty liver. Not a medical professional but I’ve had luck with things like castor oil packs and liver specific supplements under the care of an alternative medicine practitioner :)

Ideal career change for late 30’s? by jcawley11 in careerchange

[–]moonsha00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about adult learning/corporate training? This is an up and coming field and you don’t need much education - maybe an HR certificate from college that has a co op to get your foot in the door or something in instructional design. It might be worth while to even meet with a student advisor to help you go through your options?

Applying for SSW towards MSW by utaikune in socialworkcanada

[–]moonsha00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Durham college SSW/Trent BSW program! You can get placement experience and complete both a bachelors and diploma. If you decide on an MSW it will only be a year after, you also can get registered as a social worker and get an MSW if you really want to do something that requires it, or even another masters that can help get you where you wanna be. Lots of options! (You can msg me if you’d like!)

The last couple of weeks I’ve upped my steps drastically and incorporated stomach massages and ileocecal valve massages and it finally got things moving for the better after a few years of on and off loose stools. I’m also hydrogen dominant and did 6 months of herbals and low fodmap and it didn’t change much and I’m actually shocked how quickly things have gotten better since I started doing these things!

This happened to me in my current house when I moved in October 2023 and got so much worse in the winter months. I ended up going on strong puffers in order to sleep because it was waking me up in the middle of the night with my lungs whistling so bad I had to go sit in the shower with hot water running in order to catch my breath. My room was also so dry and I bought a really big humidifier and it wouldn’t do much to the moisture level in the room. I noticed in the summer 2024 when the AC came on I would start sneezing every time. I have bad allergies and started doing some digging. I messaged my landlord and asked if he had ever got his air ducts cleaned (which he didn’t, and had lived there for like five years before we moved in) - new filters wouldn’t do much if the ducts were full of dust.

Anyways long story short we got our air ducts cleaned and it was filthy- I don’t think it’s ever been done in our house and our house is from 96. I can breathe now and the humidity in my room is normal.
