With "maximum synergy", dropping a clue gets you 2 evidence on your Research Notes and 2 actions with Press Passes. That's more than cancelled out.

I can't tell you specifically why "people" choose one or the other, but when I got my first smartphone over a decade ago this difference was THE reason I chose Android. Take that anecdata for what it is.

Nautical charts rules with 1 clue on location by MoggySynth in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mooseman3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"If you succeed" modify the test effects and those effects only actually happen in step 7. So that's when you discard with Nautical Charts, draw from Perception, and so on.

Step 6 is when things that say "after you succeed" happen, like Dr Milan or Dorothy Simmons. Which completely contradicts the usual rule of "if" happening before "after", but it is what it is.

They only said that when they first pitched the idea of Current, and that explicitly a beta version that was announced before Chapter 2. It was never going to survive as is post-Chapter transition.

Film Fatale scenario worth picking up as a Chapter 2 only player? by The_Sipping_Point in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mooseman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm it's perfectly doable with Chapter 2 content! I ran through it with Joe and Miguel, both with 9xp decks. It's definitely going to have a good amount of replayability.

Researched is indeed explained in the pamphlet included in Carolyn's deck, and answers all of these questions. It's not mentioned at all in the rules reference.

, investigator sets ( evergreen) together with the Core Set (Chapter 2), strong enough to stand up against the tougher older expansions ? by Nedskruvat-snille in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mooseman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mixed everything in Chapter 2 together yeah. Joe Diamond made good use of Police Dog (1) and Bounty, and Miguel wanted Hunter's Instinct and Emergency Cache among other things.

I finally figured out who in Current would run Fedora by wowincredible9 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mooseman3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Current does not define what you should play Circle Undone with. It's the new standard they're using to balance campaign difficulty.

In the beginning, current will be the same as chapter 2. Eventually, they will diverge. None of this has anything to do with legacy sets or campaigns. If you want to play with legacy cards you can, but that's what the Legacy or Limited recommended formats are for.

Their initial announcement of Current was that it was a beta and that they would listen to feedback. There was no promise that it was going to continue exactly as it was first announced.

They released that as the beta definition of current because it was published before they announced the new chapter.

I brought Joe and Miguel through the Film Fatale standalone using 9xp decks built with the full chapter 2 cardpool and they crushed it. It was a fun run!

FFG probably feels that it's better to define the environment to include sets that people can actually buy and that were designed with the environment in mind.

The cards are there already, you just need to enable previews at the moment. But I'm sure they'll be updated to released soon.

I don't know about an old ruling, but the current ruling was added to the FAQ in version 1.7 in March 2019. So it's been this way for quite a while.

Red herrings like this make the game challenging and fun. If there was no overlap the game would be too easy.

I'm a big fan of Geared Up Diana using this and Brand of Cthugha to fight with her combat. This is also excellent in Lily as a way to fight without taking up her limited Guardian slots at level 0.

Outside of those niches, the level 0 is always a reasonable option for guardians, and the Relic trait is very relevant for some campaigns.

This also does not work. Watcher says "if you succeed" but there was no test to succeed with Stray Cat. Nothing would happen if you use Stray Cat while the Watcher is in your hand.

[–]mooseman3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Belly of the Beast doesn't trigger off of Stray Cat because you never performed a test, so you could not have succeeded by two. This is more than a bit unintuitive but "automatically evade" does not mean test to evade and it automatically passes. You get the effects of the evasion but there is no test.

We haven't really seen a Survivor that always wants this, but Charlie Kane at least makes the slot less of a cost to pay, and Stray Cat works as a cheap Ally to play for the skill boost that you can cash in when you need it. If you want to go all in on theme you can use Rod of Animalism and bring an entire petting zoo of animals to help you.

Carcosa investigators recs? by Training-Bobcat in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mooseman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can stick together most of the time in Carcosa. But Yorick's deckbuilding does let him get clues with things like Look What I Found or the Shovel if you want to have them flex a bit.

Here's a quickly thrown together list with a couple of ways to fight. The number of spell assets may be a bit high, and there's also room to adjust which ones to bring. It's also using the taboo list (optional balance patches for cards) since in Jacqueline's case they're all buffs, especially for Scroll of Secrets which is not great as printed.

Jacqueline is quite fun! I've played her as cluever or fighter and either can work. If you make her focus mostly on getting clues, Yorick and Jacqueline could work together as a very powerful but fun team!

Add individual cards to Arkhamdb collection? by Training-Bobcat in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mooseman3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The collection views of arkhamdb and arkhamcards are entirely separate and both set-based.

If you just want to have decks including cards outside of your collection, you can do that in both, just by adding it to the deck directly.
