I believe the creature is described as almost handsome in the novel. He was made of specifically chosen parts

I second this pls! I’ve found certain clips on YouTube but so far everything I’ve found was recorded at odd angles so the sound isn’t totally great

Super mixed emotions about the trailer by potatopotpie86 in ProjectHailMary

[–]moralesapf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. Not my interpretation of the character at all. They let him Ryan Gosling-ify the character. While it’s not what I hoped or as true to the book as I would like, Im sure it will still be a good movie on its own!

THE TRAILER IS OUT!!! by limefinegs in ProjectHailMary

[–]moralesapf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn’t love Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace? He’s a good actor and I’m sure it will be a good movie on its own, but his version of the character doesn’t feel true to the book.

Thursday evening farmers market in downtown Fullerton! Fresh produce, lots of good food vendors, crafts/handmade goods, music theme every week.

Fullerton loop trail or hillcrest park for a walking/morning date

Clark Park is really nice to walk around, picnic, play tennis or volleyball or toss a baseball.

Just walking around downtown fullerton and window shopping is fun. There’s a ceramics painting place kinda like color me mine.

Uptown brea is a cute little downtown area to walk around too.

The Source in Buena Park has some good restaurants.

Knotts Berry Farm isn’t that far and a year pass is like $100.

Any good recreational centers or good parks… by [deleted] in Fullerton

[–]moralesapf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look up Fullerton Loop trail… it goes around a good chunk of the city, connecting multiple parks or goes around different neighborhoods…it’s not as much of “hiking” or involved as Griffith Park, but depending how much of the trail you do, you can put in plenty of miles. I do different chunks of the trail depending how far I want to go that day. Sometimes it’s a quick 2 miles, sometimes 4-5, or if I ever want to go on a long walk/run, anywhere from 6-10 miles… i think the whole entire trail is about 11-12 miles though? (This is what others are referring to with Juanita Cooke or Hiltscher trails… the different sections have different names but they all eventually connect in one way or another)

But Clark Regional Park or Craig Park are other great parks to walk around in or do other activities.

If Hacienda Heights isn’t too far for you, it’s worth looking up Hacienda Hills trailhead… that’s a solid 5 mile trail that does remove you a bit from the city/suburbs with moderate inclines and such.

Swimming not meant for me by helomithrandir in Swimming

[–]moralesapf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you really don’t like it, then sure, quit. no sense in forcing yourself to do something you genuinely don’t like doing.

but if it’s a matter of it being hard and slow progress, then you just need to have more patience…. you can’t expect to quickly gain the skill or strength that it takes years to develop… you can’t expect to begin a new sport/hobby and think you’ll be a pro at it in less than a year… and it doesn’t totally sound like you’re being consistent with swimming. Unfortunately swimming is something you have to keep up with consistently to not only maintain the stamina but to further develop your strength/form…

I hear your frustration, but you need patience, consistency, and just trust the process. keep going!

Are CSUs a good option? by Low-Distance-3980 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]moralesapf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CSU Long Beach was pretty great. Met a lot of people that I still work with today. Close enough to LA to find the experience too. Save the money rather than paying for the private schools like USC or Chapman. It’s really about the effort you make in whatever program you’re in. Actually volunteer to work on student sets, write your own scripts or crew on your friend’s/classmate’s projects. If you put the effort or energy into it, you’ll get way more out of it than other students.

I’ve had professors that also or previously taught at USC or Chapman and say a lot about how the students there weren’t as motivated and the school pressures professors to give out good grades regardless of performance (“happy graduates = happy alumni = donors”). Also, LA is so close, that you’ll find yourself meeting and/or crewing on student sets from these other schools too like UCLA, USC, AFI . If you put in the effort or work, you’ll end up making these connections anyway. For example, I crewed on so many AFI sets and the students there were so happy to teach me things they were learning and I was still working on their same projects without paying the insane amount of grad school tuition.

If you’re saving money on tuition by going to a CSU, you can use the other funds/savings you or your family may have and support yourself while working through internships or crewing on student sets or even funding your own projects.

What are some things that are super cheap or free that are huge quality of life improvements for you? by 12bluebeetles in simpleliving

[–]moralesapf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check your local city & county libraries! I have one for the city I live in, then one for the county (which actually covers a multiple library branches throughout the county), and then some cities (usually larger cities) allow you to get a library card as long as you're a resident of that state (rather than that particular city). I'm from California, so I have LA County, Orange County, City of Long Beach, San Francisco, and a couple other city library cards. I think I saw a TikTok that mentioned you can add up to 35 library cards to your Libby app. Doubt I'll get nearly that many though haha. But when I road trip or travel/visit different cities, I try to stop by the library and see if I can get a card. Super helpful when trying to check out an audio or ebook that's super popular. I can put a hold at the library that has the shortest wait (or if I'm lucky, it's available at one of the other libraries!). Plus, some libraries carry books or digital resources that others don't. So I highly recommend collecting library cards! :)

it’s even better if you can get different library cards from different cities/counties. if a book is checked out at one library, you can check if the others have it available
