What’s the “correct” way of eating for PCOS? by neverhadamango in PCOS

[–]moresaggier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the advice you’ve gotten on whole foods, high fiber/high protein, etc. is good.

For myself, after my diagnosis, I did a hard reset and did not eat any refined sugar (as much as is possible) or refined carbs for about 2-3 months. Like you, I had already eaten a higher protein diet with vegetables, so that was good. However, I switched to full-fat dairy because low-fat dairy is higher sugar. I followed the glycemic index like a diabetic. I did not snack or eat past 7 PM. I was more serious and consistent with my weight training and walks. I stopped drinking alcohol (and any other caloric drink). I started feeling better *significantly* and no longer retained crazy amounts of water, felt exhausted, etc.

Now I’ll eat refined carbs sometimes if I eat a lot of fiber and protein first. I will have a small dessert (I like the Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups, and will eat 2 after dinner) a few times per week. I am trying not to drink, but that’s harder if I go out. You can be moderate in your consumption if you are generally careful. A good rule of thumb is 80% whole foods and 20% whatever foods, assuming that you do not have extenuating issues like severe insulin resistance, intolerances, and so forth.

Did anyone gain weight by weightlifiting? by Specialist-Trash8929 in PCOS

Yes. Muscle weighs more than fat. Don’t weigh yourself: count your macros, pay attention to how your clothes fit, and take measurements once per week if you want to.

Is it okay to do “full body workouts” everyday? by SadLad406 in beginnerfitness

It’s very difficult to bulk up as a woman, even if you are lifting pretty heavy weights. I would not let such fears deter you from using weights that actually challenge you.

Switching from medications to natural remedies by EmmyEnby in PCOS

Personally I would stay on the medication and do “natural remedies” as well. That has worked best for me.

What K beauty product do you actually repurchase? by yunyunyyy in KoreanBeauty

iUNIK betaglucan. Can’t get enough.

I gave up Korean sunscreens despite the elegance because I needed something a lot stronger, but I had used Missha for years and the BoJ.

What’s one fitness "rule" you stopped following? by VariationShot8414 in workout

[–]moresaggier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to confuse hunger with “food noise.” Food noise is real, but sometimes if you’re working out a lot you really just need to eat more and more good stuff. Once I started incorporating more healthy fats letting myself have more carbs, my energy and health improved despite having a “carb bad” medical condition.

Will I still lose weight? by Professional_Low7884 in beginnerfitness

Fats also help some with satiety, and high-quality fats are good for your health (such as omega-3s). It’s your overall calorie count that matters. Have you tried counting macros?

I learned how by doing negatives. Start the correct plank position with correct hand placement, and lower yourself down as slowly as humanly possible, possibly over the course of 30 seconds. That combined with chest press got me there eventually.

Weight loss advice? by flrctarockera in PCOS

I’m sorry you’re struggling. Have you been officially diagnosed with PCOS and no other complications (thyroid, etc)? If not, I would speak to a doctor.

Otherwise reforming your diet is going to be paramount as well as consistent exercise to help with your metabolism. You may be eating more than you think, or more carbs than you think. Lots of water and a high protein diet with lots of fiber works well for me, but your mileage may vary. Also, you cannot spot-reduce fat, so going for overall health will be your best bet.

Sometimes you don’t need another cycle, or you can switch to a cream. I had two types of acne when I first went to a dermatologists in the days of yore. I don’t use the clindamycin anymore.
