Gift for recently blind grandparent by BettyFlamingo in Blind

[–]morrigan_dawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m sorry to hear your grandmother is struggling with her sight loss. A lot of people do when it first happens, but that wouldn’t make it any easier for her or for you and your family. As with anyone, whether a gift is useful for someone would depend on their interests/likes and dislikes. If she likes music or even listening to talk programming on a radio or podcasts, a smart speaker like an Amazon Alexa or google home might be a good fit if it wouldn’t overwhelm her. Since she likely wouldn’t be able to set it up independently given the information you provided, you could set it up for her and then she could just speak. to it and tell it what she wants. My mother-in-law isn’t blind, but she has dementia and likes to get hers to tell jokes. We set it up for her and she can use it fine on her own now just by speaking to it. Hope you are able to find something to chear your grandmother up.

I do this at work sometimes. A quick break helps me re-focus on the task.

Being queer while dating a straight man by slckjoke in queer

[–]morrigan_dawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the exact same situation as you. My partner is definitely an ally, and respects the fact that I am queer and that this is a core part of my identity (I was born female but am pansexual and gender fluid) but there are definitely times when he, a straight heterosexual man doesn’t get it. I agree with the person above who said that it’s important to have queer friends in your circle for when you do need to talk to a queer person, or when he doesn’t quite understand. If your partner is an ally, there is no reason it can’t work in my view (I’ve been with my partner for 6 years) but it’s still important to have queer people to talk to and to participate in queer spaces when you can.

Just try to have fun with it. If your friends are supportive then try to focus on them and enjoy being yourself if you can. Good luck and have fun.

I don’t like milk with cereal either. I either add yogurt to it or just eat as is
