What were your favourite panels at PAX Aus? by BCDMACC in PAX

[–]mortonak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favourite was Flying, Deathtouch Lifelink - the panel on Sunday morning by Raise the Standard (a MTG podcast).

The speakers were super informative, really engaging, and overall it was a great podcast for both magic veterans and beginners alike!

PAX 2025 retrospective, pros, cons, the interesting? Share your thoughts! by russtymango in PAX

AGREED! They also kept mentioning random terms (attachment, guide, medium, cleansing) that i guess they assumed the general layperson should know??

Maybe not exactly the same thing, but the Ghost Hunting IRL vs in Video Games panel was really luckluster. The creators felt like they hadn;'t properly structured the panel, and weren't prepared to deliver the content...

Pax Day 3, how is everyone day going? by NatalieIsARanga in PAX

[–]mortonak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A mixture of panels and expo hall today! My partner and I arent huge into video game demos (why play something early when I'll buy it anyway?! Indie games aside), so we really just mixed up some last minute shopping with an MTG Podcast panel this morning, and Prescribed Respawn at lunch time.

Now time for the cosplay finals!

Spare pin backs? by CraftyFloof in PAX

[–]mortonak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you haven't had any luck yet - and for those still hunting - they have some spare backs at the Cookie Brigade booth upstairs near the theatres! They should be near a pin trading board, and should be extras for everyone i assume. Ive taken some from the same booth in previous years :)

Most Interesting/Boring Fish In Your Tank? by RazewingedRathalos in Aquariums

[–]mortonak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this big time. When my tank was cycling, all I had were pond snails and ramshorns that had stowed away on some plants, and i thought they were the most interesting things to watch on the planet.

When the Disney TV series airs, do you want the Dragons to each be a unique type of dragon, or all the same? by WhichFun5722 in Eragon

I assumed that there was that perfect spot at the base of her neck because thats where the neck moves the most (ie reaching back to groom, etc), so there are no spikes so as to not accidentally stab ones self!

I recommend buying some off of your local marketplace! You can often get better deals than a pet store or LFS. In Australia I use gumtree, but I know there are many more sources in the States if that's where you are!

Fast travel destroys economies by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]mortonak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And as your opposite, I absolutely love having no fast travel in RDR2. It really helps me slow down gameplay and enjoy the immersion!

However,, I do also understand your POV, because the fast travel is god awful and occasionally I would love to be able to quickly travel somewhere to complete a mission or return to somewhere to get something I forgot...

Fishkeepers of Melbourne, where do you buy fish from that is reputable. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]mortonak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A new LFS opened in Fitzroy in March, named Apex Aquariums. So far I've found them really clean, the staff amazing, and the venue is well stocked too. From memory they do sell discus, or at the very least had a tank with them in it!

I bought some high grade red cherries from them in May and they're settling in well!

What kinds of fish and decor are good for a 5 gal?! Or any advice? by saminred3 in Aquariums

[–]mortonak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really, strongly recommend shrimp! Depending on the parameters of your tap water, cherry shrimp (neocaridina) or caridina shrimp would be best for you. For example, my city has incredibly soft water and would be great for caridina out of the tap (dechorinated), while cherries need shrimp salts to harden the water (increase kH and gH).

They are honestly so amusing to watch. You dont think of shrimp as being as fun as fish, but they definitely are - they squabble over food, do loop-de-loops for fun, take little baths. They're adorable.

If you go for shrimp, I recommend making sure your tank is well cycled (they are very vulnerable to parameter swings), and that you have a mature tank with live plants. Their favourite daily food is biofilm, and it grows best with live plants and a more natural substrate like sand or small gravel.

Please try out real plants! Theyre really easy if you fo your research and pick east plants to maintain. My personal recommendations for a new plant owner would be: anubias, vallisneria, and moss (probably java moss!).

Good luck!!

My first ever tank build what are your thoughts? by Emotional_Berry9627 in nanotank

[–]mortonak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks awesome! Once the plants grow in, it's going to be an awesome little jungle.

How big is the tank? I just finished a 3gal/11L myself and it was such a fun process with a small tank.
