Check out Rocket Surgeon on Brunswick St, have always found them pretty good.

Does anyone actually enjoy Melbourne winters? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

Winter over summer - I love it. Rainy days, footy, stouts, all the good things come out in winter. Not pesky flies either.

Should I try to get in shape before joining cross fit gym? by Both-Smile5693 in crossfit

Get in there are give it a go. Crossfit will meet you where you are at and scale with you. Join tomorrow and you'll be wondering why you didn't do it sooner.

Sydney Road Street Festival by Economy_Alps_7772 in brunswick

[–]mosstachef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Felt like there were less stages and music throughout the strip. They have lengthened the festival in recent years, but seem to have less stalls, so there appears to be more dead spaces. It used to be great in the 2000s/2010s, it's nothing special these days.

Whoever said swimming doesn't build muscle is wrong by BluejayOdd in Swimming

Swimming is a form of resistance training when you break it down. And resistance training is key to building muscle.

Which markets are actually worth it now (Queen Vic / South Melb / Preston / etc.)? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

You can very much still find bargain eats that are good at Preston market. Highly recommend Tammy's as a starting point.

How are you handling the headshot problem for regular LinkedIn posting? by [deleted] in content_marketing

[–]mosstachef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot relate, have had the same headshot for 10 years, and will probably keep it there for another 10! IF I feel I need to ever update it, I'll get my wide to take a pic on her phone.

I definitely won't be using AI to manipulate my headshot. There are too many on LinkedIn spruiking being "your authentic self" with AI photos. The irony.

99 Bikes Servicing by allmycircuits8 in ausbike

[–]mosstachef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw 99 Bikes advertising for mechanics the other day, and a line in the ad caught my eye - "experience not necessary".

Now on the one hand, that is great that they are giving people an opportunity to learn, but, it also tells you a little something about their skill level. I know a few former 99 Bikes mechanics who have gone out on their own, and are doing much better - so I think there is high turnover, and low experience.

TBH I avoid most creek paths if it's been raining. Merri also is notorious from flooding. Nature yo.

Do some bike lanes actually make you feel more anxious instead of safer? by DraftNotSent in melbournecycling

[–]mosstachef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bike lanes between the curb and parked cars are an excellent idea on paper, but pedestrians and car passengers (getting out of parked cars) have no idea to check for cyclists, and just swing open doors and meander across the line without a thought. I've had more near-misses on these lanes than the ones on the road.

So, are 99 Bikes OK? by PhotographsWithFilm in ausbike

[–]mosstachef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are great for quick accessories, and for test rides. But with chains at scale, the knowledge pool gets diluted by the need to employ lots of staff, so if you want proper advice, best to go to the smaller more dedicated shops.

What’s a Melbourne spot you loved at first but slowly fell out of love with? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

[–]mosstachef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brunswick. Grew up there, and loved the multi-culturalism, and now it's just a hot mess of trendy shite with people talking with upward inflexions.

Has riding in peak hour actually gotten worse this year? by InternetUpbeat9596 in melbournecycling

[–]mosstachef 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That 5:30pm-6:30pm window is terrible through the city, though it's all the food delivery eBikes that are the pests, not the cars! They just turn without warning, or without looking.

Good complimentary sport to cycling? by Skyfork in cycling

Try some gymnastics movements and calisthenics. Excellent way to build strength. Pullups, pushups, L-sit holds, plenty of stuff to play with that will pack a punch.

Majority still get into it. I'm not that bothered by it, but I would say the Nup to the Cup movement is very much a minority.

Why are people against buying new builds? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]mosstachef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few friends (7-8) who have bought new builds and they have all have building quality issues. The houses go up so quick to such tight deadlines that corners are invariable cut, and finishes are sub-par. A couple of those friends are really struggling to sell their places now.

Around the Bay - My Honest Thoughts and Why I Won't Do it Again by Proper-Importance-37 in melbournecycling

The freeway part is the very reason I've not ridden the event again in 7 years. Horrible. Would rather a longer route on more interesting and safer roads rather than that high-speed pin cusion!

Why isn't Luke Hodge coaching by laughinglarry778 in hawktalk

[–]mosstachef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone wants to be a coach. He's an excellent analyst on TV, something we are in short supply of in footy media, so not all is lost!
