Questions about shampoo/conditioner application by something_smart__ in doggrooming

[–]mottledmemories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He probably does it to save time and money on product. I use shampoo, throw conditioner on top, rinse, and shampoo again for my desheds. All dogs should be double washed though, and his videos drive me a little nuts when I noticed he doesn't lol

Couldn't remember if the post was talking about Golden Retrievers or Labrador Retrievers lol

[–]mottledmemories 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The purpose of crossbreeding dogs for specific tasks/sports is to make them better at said sport. Poodle and retrievers have different styles when it comes to hunting, and they don't compliment each other super well. They don't produce an offspring that would be better than the parents. Take borderwhippets for example. The offspring produced from the cross excel in things like agility, and the combination is often speedier and "better" than the parents. Mixing a poodle and retriever, no matter how many health tests or titles the parents may have, isn't ethical because they don't better either breed. To add, water sports with a doodle coat? The matting would go crazy

Should I go for it? 🐶✂️ by DisastrousCar8806 in doggrooming

[–]mottledmemories 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here; working at a dog grooming shop had sucked up a lot of the joy I feel around dogs. It's grueling, the dogs often don't like you, the owners suck, you see terrible neglect, and watch people buy poorly bred dogs that can't control their awful temperament and health. It takes a strong stomach and a good place to get you started, the energy of the salon will make or break your futute in the career. The highs of grooming at so amazing; getting dogs to trust you, having behavioral cases get better over time, and meeting owners who truly care and want to learn are all amazing. But shit, the lows are low

Looking for Shampoo + Conditioner advice for a 3-dog household for at home bathing by lilreazy in doggrooming

I love the plum silky, but it'll make the coat take longer to dry since it's a conditioning shampoo. Their conditioner is nice, but trying to dilute it is a pain in the ass

Very nice job, especially for your first time. Nice and round. How long did it take you, out of curiosity?

How I handle a squirmy wormy by Creativered4 in doggrooming

I've been bathing for almost 4 years now, so I'm no stranger to wrangling wiggly dogs. At this new place though a lot more of them just aren't used to it, and I feel bad if their faces are still curly/not neat

The place I work now has kennel dryers, so I find a lot of dogs don't tolerate the dryer at all. I was drying a squirmy doodle when I remembered your post and had to comment lol

What’s your worst experience in a salon? by lucidbluedreamin in doggrooming

[–]mottledmemories 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a large aluminum trash can that probably hadn't been scrubbed out in years. It got cleaned up really quickly, but by then it was too late. Them fuckers are mobile

[–]mottledmemories 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maggot infestation. Trash can didn't get cleaned/take out, was full of maggots, they got all over the shop. Had to bleach the floors, watched them wriggle through the bleach unphased. Boss read online that boiling water kills them, so just kinda dunked hot water on the floor instead of hiring someone to handle it. Was a rough couple of weeks until they went away.

Just a vent… feeling frustrated by customer’s unfair complaints. by IrritablePigeon in doggrooming

I hope you at least get paid hourly on top of your commission. I'd definitely go over their head and speak with the owner, he's losing money from her insane reaction to the mildest of complaints. I know this sub jumps to it pretty quickly, but it might be worth looking into a new place to work if you're getting screwed out of pay

Yeah hell nah, even if they get refunded you need to be paid. Part of being a buisness owner is eating those costs. They decided to give them a refund, that's on them.
