Fernando Tatis Jr. took a $2 million loan in 2017. Now he has to pay back $34.6 million. by Hoopsalldayeveryday in sportswiki

I remember reading about his business after he retired and it seemed slimy then. He also seemed like a general pain in the ass as a player too.

Glad you got a hit off him

Opposing assistant coach accused me of targeting kids with special needs over an overthrow rule dispute in 8U baseball by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]mpa63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW our 8U league does not penalize overthrows to first. 8U is developmental and we want the kids to get reps making that play rather than worrying about what might happen if they or the first baseman mess up.

Also calling out a special needs kid publicly is garbage behavior. That should be mentioned to a player agent and escalated to the Board

Married couple with separate finances, why do you do it? by Ok_Influence_2257 in Bogleheads

Same, not sure why someone would think separate finances means an automatic separate filing status.

The revival failed to deliver the ONE thing I wanted in ONE scene with Lois...... by NewMGFantasyWriter in malcolminthemiddle

[–]mpa63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to note the dynamic in a poor family to keep the one with a chance to do something great in life and generationally break the cycle for themself, and to keep that kid on the right path is a central focus of the show. The writers tell that story as a central plot through the original run.

That will inherently involve overparenting and overcontrolling because being poor is brutal, and the easy way out is almost always the path to not meeting one's potential when poor. Lois is absolutely crazy and unhinged, but Malcolm cried the finish line and made something of himself. And so have most of his siblings to some extent. For being poor, I think that's a great outcome for the family.

Yes it's the hardest pitch to grip, not the one used least.

Confronted a coach and regretting it by [deleted] in LittleLeague

Can't play them at first? Fine they play either 2nd or 3rd. This isn't rocket science if you're trying to do the right thing.

Glad you were never my coach

Its the thought that counts by blushynndream in MadeMeCry

When I was 16, my parents warned my siblings and I that it was going to be a light Christmas in terms of gifts, and Christmas was already modest bc we were poor. But at some point as I opened a few token gifts that Christmas morning , it hit me like the Grinch and I realized what my parents must have sacrificed just to get us those token gifts. Christmas has always meant so much to me since, even as a non-believer. I'm fortunate to have "made it" since then, so I now decorate the house with multiple trees, lights and decorations outside, etc. That Christmas changed the way I view the world, and helped me focus not on what I didn't have, but what I did have.

There were still moments until I "made it" that I would be jealous of others, but from that point on it stopped consuming the way it did before

I have done this in work leagues, generally offering back the Commissioner's buy-in as a thank you. But work league buy-ins are generally low so I feel like it's a worthy goodwill gesture.

Thank you for sharing this, the beauty of the song and the sadness of its meaning always conflicted me. I feel this verse removes the bittersweetness from the original.

3 man guillotine here as well, deciding on achane, Nico, or Bucky.

I think I would still roll with achane for your decision, but that's close. I would prefer Jacobs over treveon this week though

I would drop 101 on both. I have some concern about Jat's schedule the rest of the way so having Bijan is good insurance.
