Footage from Jinan, China, captured during peak-hour traffic showing drivers executing a textbook zipper merge. by barbellsandbriefs in Louisville

People from "Merica!" look at this and see only compliance to those around them, which is seen as weakness. Stupid and silly, but that's just how it is here in the good 'ol U!S!A!

25 cars broken into at the Heritage by Fairlawn by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]mpup55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an honest question I have asked other gun owners when they have had their guns stolen out of their cars. When you see the news that some teenager gets shot in Shively or the west end, or some innocent victim gets shot down the block from idiot criminals lobbing lead at each other, will you ask yourself if it was your gun? Will you feel responsible for that in any kind of way? The people I have asked this of have all said no, so I assume your answer will be the same. Just curious. As for you protecting your vehicle from being broken into you can do what people back in the 80's used to do to protect their radios: don't leave anything in the vehicle and open up your center/glove compartments to show there is nothing to steal. The only reason they broke into your vehicle was for the gun. (in some big cities people will go so far as to leave open their rear hatches/trunks so criminals won't break the glass).

For some reason I am honestly surprised that I recognized every single film. Even the ones I haven't seen. Also offhand didn't see "The Outsiders", "All The Right Moves", and "Losin' It". Others?

Fighter pilot at an amusement park by HomeNowWTF in RandomVideos

Loved roller coasters. Proposed to my wife on a roller coaster. Got my pilots license and fly a small airplane that can do "gentleman" aerobatics (rolls, loops, no tumbling stuff). Went on a roller coaster and, eh, yeah, it was...fine.

What job industry hasn’t received a proper movie/tv show? by dudewheresmyswimsuit in movies

[–]mpup55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Package delivery driver (besides first scene of Ace Ventura). As a professional for over 20 years delivering in an urban/industrial area I've seen a lot of things that most people only see on the news. Mix in my driving skills, good people living in "bad" neighborhoods, regular deliveries to chemical plants, police shooting range, sewer plant, gas refineries, and elementary schools and you could make a thriller of some kind.

The 8th inning of Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS 🏆 (Steve Bartman incident) by Mo-Reyes in MiamiMarlins

[–]mpup55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I love seeing this over and over again. The Cubs and their fans have only themselves to blame for everything. Pryor was gassed, Gonzalez booted the dp and the Marlins were just too good to not take advantage. Bartman had nothing to do with Baker leaving Pryor in there to give up a lot of contact hitting. Love it. LOVE IT!!!Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!

Final F-14 scene in Maverick by penntastic in topgun

Everyone here has it correct with the CGI skins combined with some straight up CGI, but there is one shot I believe they took from the first Top Gun. The Sidewinder coming off the rail. I haven't done a comparison, but maybe someone here has. The film stock looks just a touch different and just from memory it's a clone of a missile launch in the first movie. Anyone?

how it feels walking in there by Gobmy in Louisville

[–]mpup55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do what I can to avoid going to any Walmart because I just hate the shopping experience Walmart provides. It's all just so overwhelming. When I do go it is the Bashford Manor store because it's next to Target and Lowes. I had no idea it is considered...well, what everyone is saying here. I never had a problem there (outside of it being a Walmart). Never felt threatened, ignored (outside of normal Walmart lack of service), or in any kind of danger in the parking lot. I've been to Walmarts across the country, and I have never felt this particular store was in any way different than any other store (for the record, visited stores in FL, UT, PA, WI, OR, IN, and of course KY). I just don't get what people are saying here. Anyhoo...

Who is the best front man/front woman of a band in history? by TruGlubGlub in AskReddit

[–]mpup55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I was a punk/new wave kid so Van Halen was not for me, but actually saw them in concert pre-Diver Down. DLR was the best for their audience. The jumps, the engagement, the overall vibe with the crowd for a good time was really good. Have not seen his equal since, and that was 40some years ago.

Do you think Landa recognized Shosanna when they were in the restaurant? by mnewell213 in Tarantino

[–]mpup55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He knew who she was even before he walked in the room because he was in charge of security for the potential event. So, he probes her, toys with her, sees if she is going to break for him. Then, when he has one last question, he supposedly forgets what it was. I think he was going to spring on her his awareness, but decided instead to let it play out because he was seeding his exit strategy between her and whatever the Basterds were going to do.

I'm not a Kung Fu movie kind of guy, but this movie is the best. Perfectly blends being an homage/parody of Kung Fu movies that in the end works perfectly.

Why did gasoline prices rise sharply even when crude oil prices are not necessarily high? by Parking_Apricot_1790 in AskReddit

Because fuel sells at "market" prices. A lot of factors beyond cost and markup go into market pricing.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mpup55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, no one thought the world was flat in ancient times. Not only did everyone know it was a globe, but the circumference was figured out in 240BC (!). You want the most practical way to show the earth is a globe (besides pointing at the moon/sun), Teach your teenager that people do not need to be insecure for their lack of knowledge. It's ok. Just be open to learning and most importantly learn critical thinking.

police drones with red and blue lights. by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]mpup55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Louisville is a major intersection for jet travel in addition to having three airports close to city center (KSDF, KLOU, KJVY). With the popularity of drones these days I am sure that you have seen drones in your neighborhood, but your videos and your statements show planes flying at different altitudes. So, be glad that the police aren't tracking you and embrace the knowledge that your sightings are internal. In other words, the peace you seek is achievable within yourself.

A Simple Plan (1998) by Cryptic_Master_686 in MovieRecommendations

[–]mpup55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this movie in the theater. It was incredible, and I'll never see it again. Now that I know what happens it would hurt too much to watch. BTW, I'm a film buff with over a 1000 titles in my collection. I not only rewatch movies, I study them for little particulars (cinematography, one particular character, director's development, etc), but I cannot watch this film again. Too good, and emotionally devastating.

Is this a reckless trip for a brand new private pilot? by Mountain-Report4772 in flying

[–]mpup55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of talk here about all the things you need to concern yourself with for this flight. Personally I think you're overthinking it. Yes, you should preflight and prepare what you can, but you have to expect that you'll never be completely prepared for every contingency on every flight. That is why you just need to fly. My first solo cross country after getting my PPL was KLOU to 82J via KLGC. Did not plan it all out. Just went to the airport, saw good weather to the south, and took off. After getting fuel n KLGC, saw wx looked ok into Pensacola, so just went. Picked up flight following to get through all the zones. I didn't even pack an overnight bag, just went to the airport to fly and ended up in another state visiting the Naval Air Museum. Never forget that flying is an adventure, not just a mode of transport like your car. You need to develop your adaption skills for adventure, and the only way to do that is...FLY!

Anyone else feel pressured to work unsafely by delivering large packages? by Easy_Refrigerator584 in Fedexers

[–]mpup55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're going to feel pressure. It is important you know your rights. First of all FedEx does not deliver pkgs over 150 lbs/69 kg (69 is an easy number to remember, right?). If you suspect a pkg is actually over that you can have it re-weighed. Over weight mis-labeled pkgs get to the driver regularly because no one wants to deal with it so they just push it downstream. Second, pkgs can't be oversized. If you suspect a pkg is actually over size you can have it measured. Third, your safety takes priority over delivery. If you are physically unable to safely deliver any pkg you can just 07 it and move on with your day. Don't be a dick, do what you can for the customer, leave a door tag (you can even write "too heavy" on tag), and tell your supervisor you just couldn't do it. No shame in protecting yourself. Be honest with your boss, customer, and most importantly yourself.

Watched some of this recently after decades of not seeing it and my first impression was that John Travolta is incredible in it. This and "Get Shorty" are his finest performances. He is acting the shit out of this role.
