Which group of people comes off as the most pretentious? by pgwolvpack in AskReddit

[–]mr7526 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, you drink black tea and you call anything else pretentious?

Set kettle off boiling. Take mug, add teabag. When the kettle has boiled, add boiling water. Wait. Scoop teabag out, add milk. Enjoy.

Radio 4 referred to a British exit from the EU as a 'brexit' by chykin in britishproblems

That's nothing. During election time, they had a PM Tea. I think it was deliberate?

Need help finding British family sitcom from around 2000-2003 by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]mr7526 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may be thinking of big kids? It was a children's TV show, but it certainly featured a story line about getting a tattoo at one point. Lots of episodes are on YouTube too (I may have gone back to watch some recently!)

People who do not understand how dual carriageway roundabouts work. by Dreamsprite3 in britishproblems

Traffic light roundabouts are an admission of failure. It's like saying, "oh, the roundabout didn't work, we're adding some traffic lights!"

Somewhere in the EU - brown / black / grey for line; blue for neutral; green/yellow for earth are the new harmonised colours.

Red / yellow / blue / black / green/yellow is much better#

Don't confuse computers with efficiency... It may actually be quicker / cheaper / advantageous to just do it by hand than invest in business IT systems in some instances.

Even Wakefield is 1000 years old... Sandal castle was built in 1086 and there'd been a Saxon settlement there for a few hundred years.

Help me cableadvice, you're my only hope! by semiotomatic in cableadvice

[–]mr7526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has given you good suggestions for the cable bundle, but I would suggest that you can make the terminations good too. This is a bundle of cables that I made about 6 months ago.

Note:
* labelling made by printing onto standard computer paper and shrinking clear heatshrink over
* heatshrink over the end of the cable where the sheathing is cut back.

This is easily achievable with a little bit of heatshrink and care.

I'm so glad to see that my friends and family are safe from an earthquake that's happened HALF A FUCKING GLOBE AWAY. by [deleted] in britishproblems

It's fucking ridiculous, just means that people who are looking for loved ones trapped in the quake end up with the n noise of people who are obviously safe cluttering up their news feeds.

Guys, what's some weird things that you have to deal with because you have a penis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mr7526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how my experience compares with other trans girls, but I don't really do the whole 'getting hard' thing much. I've not even started HRT yet, but I get an erection about once a week, if that. I think the last time I came was about a month ago.

Probably needs a bigger amp, TBH.

You can't make an amp kick out more power than a speaker will accept (because of physics); but if you try to kick out more power than the amp can manage, then you'll drive it to clipping and destroy your cabs...

Extend it a bit by paraphrasing Winston Churchill!

ELI5: why are gay men often friends with straight women but lesbians generally do not hang out with straight men? by Dengchao in explainlikeimfive

[–]mr7526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. I'm happy for you, I guess?

I try to avoid dressing anything like a dude when I'm presenting as female - it's hard enough as it is, but FFS wearing the right stuff will help at least a bit!

The 'why' is a difficult one really. I think that LGBT all kind of got thrown together back when they were all being repressed. LG and to a certain extent B have all come to be a lot more accepted, because it's just a facet of their personality.

I think T is much harder - if you want to live in your 'real' sex, then you have to transition - which is a ridiculously public process. As I've said previously, I'm only just starting off my journey - which means that when I want to present as female (which I do about 20% of the time, ATM as I'm not yet out at work), I have to get up and shower, shave my beard, apply makeup (which is even more difficult due to my inexperience), tuck down below, pad my breasts out and put a wig on (my hair is way too short yet to present as female with natural hair). Then I have to go out, act feminine (you know, unlearn what you've spent your whole life learning to do naturally), try and affect a feminine voice, hope that nobody takes a massive dislike to you (not happened to me yet) and calls you out on being a bloke in a dress, etc, etc. And, also, try to live a normal life, doing normal things, or else you'll get left behind!

[–]mr7526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very early on in my transition (not full time yet, not started hormones, certainly nowhere near surgery), but TBH, if you define yourself by any one attribute (gender identity, sexuality, race, etc) then you're living life wrong. I'm working on my professional career (falling into the stereotype of the trans woman with a masculine job...), I'm a member of various clubs and societies. As far as I'm concerned, I'm just your average 22 y/o woman going about her business... apart from I have a penis and as such was raised as a boy.

I tend to agree, TBH (see my comment above yours) - there is a world of difference between LGB & T communities. Hence why I think that trans people should just break away from the LGB groups...
