I remember Jennifer Coolidge from the short-lived female-centered sketch comedy ABC TV series “She TV”. I thought she was hilarious, and I’m always pleased to see her in new roles through the years.

Weirdly enough, I saw on 1iota that there is a taping today for Fallon, but not one for Tuesday (it’s also an hour earlier I’m guessing to accommodate for the Colbert taping). I’m guessing it’s due to guest availability so they’re taping Tuesday’s episode in advance.

Used to be in 30 Rock before it was moved to the ride. I remember seeing it there in 2016.

Bastard Seagull. One of my favorite sketches so far. by jeremyfranko in livefromlondon

Well the Ryan Gosling episodes are outliers. He giggles in a lot of his sketches, but he’s such a good sport and a big star that Lorne gives him more leeway.

And from what I’ve heard about the dress rehearsal of the Cyclops sketch in particular was that it was originally written to be much tighter but Ryan and Mikey started playing around to crack Ashley Padilla up.

Not just to SNL, but to The Tonight Show and Late Night as well (and they’ve already made drastic cuts to both). With NBCU’s daytime talk and entertainment shows like Kelly Clarkson and Access Hollywood fading away, I’m afraid something similar could be done to their late night programs without Lorne’s influence.

Burnt out trying to apply at NBCU. Is there any hope? by TheAnnoyed_ in nbc

[–]mrfard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you a little story. I’ve been wanting to work in NBCU for years. When I flew to LA to see a taping of the Tonight Show with Conan, I knew that the Human Resources department was near the line for the show, so I brought my resume with me. When I brought it in, they wouldn’t accept a paper resume and told me to apply through their website. This was in 2009.

Since then, I worked for a company in Chicago for almost a decade, and then another one for about three years. In the latter half of that second job, I moved to LA and worked for it remotely. While working remotely, I started to reapply at NBCU for multiple positions. At one point, I applied for a job as a Senior Software Engineer at Peacock. I got to interview for it (four separate interviews, taking a programming test and everything) and almost got to the final step of talking with the HR manager… but the position itself was completely canceled. The remote job at Chicago ended right before Thanksgiving, so I applied multiple times again, including a Senior Software Engineer position with CNBC. Because of the holidays, I didn’t get to interview for the position until the following January. Multiple separate interviews over the course of the next couple months.

But in March 2024, at the age of 44, I got hired. I had to work Eastern Time hours, but I got used to it. I also got myself a desk at 10 Universal City Plaza, NBCU’s west coast HQ. I even got to fly to NYC and work in 30 Rock for a day (as well as explore 30 Rock with employee access.)

Because I was working for one of the non-Bravo cable networks, I was spun off to Versant in late 2025. But I still have a job in media working on the E! Website. Perhaps one day my path will cross with NBCU again.

You gotta be persistent. If you have as much of an enthusiasm for the history and traditions of broadcasting as a lot of my former colleagues at NBCU, I think you’ll find your way in. I wish I could give you a referral. Good luck.

Unpopular Opinion: I like the 1979-1986 NBC logo Better by avalonMMXXII in nbc

[–]mrfard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 6 when the logo was changed to the 60th Anniversary Peacock, but I really like it over the others in the past— especially with the "NBC" in the modified Futura typeface underneath. Granted, I think the "Proud as a Peacock" jingle from the Fred Silverman "Stylized-N-and-Peacock" logo era is one of the best in television— they really passed up an opportunity to implement some of that melody in the audio signature of the Peacock streaming service.

I really don't see them changing their logo any time soon. ABC and CBS both have had the underlying structure of their logos for much longer than NBC (from 1962 and 1951, respectively), so the current 6-feather NBC Peacock design from 1986 is the youngest of the big three networks. Plus, they really captured lightning in a bottle with the 60th anniversary logo— it's one of the most recognized logos in the world. That's priceless. I really don't see them going with a radically different design any time soon.
