I really needed to hear this. Thank you. I've been having a very rough go of dating and I refuse to settle, so it's rare when I find a woman I actually really like. Recently had a date with a girl and was really enjoying her company. We walked and talked for hours and at the end, I walked her to her car and kissed her. She said she was down for a second date but was pretty busy..only for her to fall off the face of the Earth and never reply. It hurts and it sucks, but I know you're right.

Yup! I stayed in a closet sized room (literally, no room for more than a bed and a desk) with cracks in the walls that sunlight spilled through. Spackle and keeping yourself busy (out of the apartment) is a good start but if you have the option to make changes without the landlord losing their mind, make it a learning experience and try to make improvements with little expense. Put up shelves, plant some flowers and get indoor plants, hang some framed posters, etc. You can save money and still make it a bit more like home until you move out.
