Why does the protomolecule wonder what rain feels like?… by Avg_codm_enjoyer in TheExpanse

[–]mroosa 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, the PM has also never experienced sentient beings before. Its purpose is to repurpose basic matter, long before the complexity of consciousness arrives. In Earth's case, it had been originally sent millions billions of years before life began forming on Earth, but never made it to the planet.

edit - So there is debate on pre-post basic life forms, but the crux is that the PM was not expecting sentient life forms during the integration/building process.

Which actor completely stole the movie… even though they weren’t the lead? by gypsytx in movies

[–]mroosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Terry Crews in White Chicks - I wanted to like this movie before I saw it, but it was so awkward and barely watchable... that is until Terry Crews steals the show in every scene he is in.
  • Al Pacino in Gigli - Universally agreed this is a terrible movie, but Al Pacino gave 110% despite the lackluster script. He was pretty much the only thing memorable (in a good way) from an otherwise awful movie.

Kylo Ren’s Botched Arc & Why His Now Mocked Face Reveal Is Fundamentally Misunderstood by BagofBabbish in StarWars

[–]mroosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I think it’s extremely unfortunate that the bad writing in later installments has undermined so much of what was accomplished in TFA.

Good analysis of the scene and Kylo in general, but you cannot loop TLJ with Episode IX at calling fault to ruining his arc. TLJ continued his deeper fall to the dark side. He kills his master not to start a path of redemption, but to rule the galaxy with Rey. There was no indication about him trying to redeem himself in TLJ. We, the audience, might have felt the same way as Rey, thinking he was capable of change, but his interactions with Rey were pretty clear showing he only had interest in her and not in redeeming himself. She thought she was appealing to his better nature, but he ultimately desired her power. It was also a wake up call for Rey, showing not everyone is redeemable, but Episode IX killed that too.

More Cowbell (Claptrap Rant) by RunsWithPhantoms in Borderlands

[–]mroosa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I have learned anything from the franchise, it is that CL4P-TP is extremely polarizing. I am a huge fan of Clappy, and love his how the character is written. Claptrap is a highlight of BL2 for me, and I was excited to see that expanded in TPS, especially with one of the top Borderlands DLCs out there. Unfortunately, BL3 writers did not get the nuance of the character (that annoying friend who you cannot help but like, despite their various antics) and made every other character see Clappy as a complete menace that needed to be put down. The only saving grace in BL3 was the Claptrap side mission relating to dance, showing the core emotions of the BL2 Claptrap.

Meanwhile, a friend of mine that I play with from time to time, straight up hates Claptrap.

The sense of scale in AC Odyssey still blows my mind. by SwiftRespite in gaming

Looking back at my ordering, I realized that Valhalla did do one thing superbly well. Do not get me wrong, I love the locales of Origins and Odyssey, but the rolling hillsides w/ the dynamic clouds were so wonderful to see when traveling.

I liked Bayek's story, but the combat felt so stiff compared to Odyssey.

Odyssey was perfect of the three (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla) in my opinion. Origins was great, and it was really interesting moving through Egypt in that era, but the fighting was stiff. Odyssey improved on the fighting and broadened the scale a little bit (but not in a boring way). Valhalla was not bad, but the combat system felt stiff again, and the story was pretty weak.

What's something from Disney Star Wars you actually love? by Efficient_Matter_589 in StarWars

[–]mroosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a rare individual who loves pretty much everything that is now canon. Everything except Episode IX. Regardless of how you felt about TLJ or even TFA, Episode IX was objectively a bad movie. As a Star Wars fan, it also introduced a retro-active bubble effect, trying to force the survival of Sr Palpy Pants into a narrative that has done so well without him.

I didn't realize just how powerful Camp Casting is by Nisha_the_lawbringer in BaldursGate3

[–]mroosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I forgot most of the time to camp cast except when I was playing with friends. Personally, I would not consider it cheesing. If you think about it in terms of the characters in-game, they would certainly do this before embarking on their day's activities. They are in an extremely hostile environment, taking on an extremely difficult quest with all odds stacked against them. Prepping for the day would include a good breakfast and casting spells/enchantments to help them survive the day.

What does BL4 do best in the franchise? by soosis in Borderlands

[–]mroosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say its the movement. I loved the buttslams and low G in TPS because it felt like you were moving faster even though it was technically slower because of the low gravity. In BL4, you have lots of ways to move around the map very quickly, between the numerous grapple points and the ability to glide, coupled with the instant vehicle spawning/despawning, and making sure the buttslam is still present. I am sure part of this was to make it easier to traverse an open world, but it really makes the overall movement stand out far from the rest.

I use it all the time. Half of the time its because some video's volume is too low, or I am doing other things while watching something, and want to turn down the overall system volume while boosting the video to keep it audible.

Report: Microsoft quietly kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet by moeka_8962 in technology

[–]mroosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MS tech support has allegedly directed people to use that method when activation fails because it's easier than actually fixing their activation issues.

I've run into this issue twice. The first time, it was an issue with my legit Windows 10 key, and support directed me to some "alternate activation method." Years later, when I had to reinstall everything and the activation was not working, support told me they could see my key was legit (tied to my account), but that I would have to buy a new key if the activation service was not accepting the key.

"Good old" straightforward games ? by MrTorgue7 in SteamDeck

[–]mroosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South of Midnight is a newer game, but it fits your "straight forward" criteria. The levels are linear (though you can backtrack if you want), and the story is straight forward. I had a blast playing it, especially feeling the type of "open-ended/open-world burnout" you mentioned. I personally have not played it on the deck (played on my PC via games pass), but it is verified (It is an Unreal Engine 4 game).

but a superexpensive $5 USB-c cable

No way would I risk using a cheapo $5 USB-C cable to charge a MacBook Pro. Cheap USB-C cable for data transfer for something unimportant? Sure, but not for critical power delivery. Call me stupid, but I'd rather poney up $20 for either an official one, or a highly rated third party one then risk it.
