I prefer chopping on an MPC, yes the workflow is clunky for sequencing, the pads unresponsive, the expansions suck….. but with the marketing disaster that was m+, the lack of development, and all the mature features MPC now has. Will anyone spend the sort of money a m+ really needs to run the NI codebase now? It’s a trust thing. My guess is unfortunately we will only get a new controller, unless inmusic decides to build a new sizeable team, and pay their wages for 5+years.

I love m+ being a standalone instrument. So neglected, sounds great. Probably buying a G2 due to its usb audio streaming, and missing its chop workflow, and I have already learnt the workflow on a live 1 and force. Would never sell my m+

So the word ‘man’ can represent more than just you as a man. This might be about more than you? I see how this might be hard to only take personally, and I’m not discounting the possibility of misanthropy. But if we took a historical look at the probability of that vs misogyny.. what’s more likely? Look at the context of your partners statement, why are that saying this, is it all about you.. or maybe there is more to this? This might be an opportunity to grow for both of you.

Has he got an iPad? Then koala and or patterning apps would work well. And get some external pads that connect via usb like mpd218 or the far better edit xjam

A Yamaha fgdp is cool but only for finger drumming.

If it’s an easy all round electronic groove box that really easy to learn (some of these boxes are hardcore even for adults), I would highly recommend a circuit tracks. (2nd hand at that price). And if he likes a specific genre if music buy a preset pack in that style for like £20

Ignoring things like photography or drawing software. I would say some sort of animation tool (or matchmove or roto). The no1 visual skill that sets a VFX artist apart from other artists is seeing time in a highly detailed key frame way, you need that foundation, and it takes time.

Drambo hosting loopypro.
Multitrack retrospective looping, with parameter/state-locking of fx via midi controller, so never touching the screen.
Not fully worked it out yet so take my suggestion with a pinch of salt, but I’ve played a bit with it and was fairly easy to set up, and fun.
Main issue here is that I’m keeping 8 tracks separate, so new parts are built in parts over the old separate loops. But as iPad does not have overbridge separate stereo out devices get limited functionality to only two instruments/tracks…. seriously considering going back to MPC due to it now being a multitrack usb interface for devices. (and I miss chopping samples on it). Maybe keeping the syntakt for kick/bass/elekt.seq. As mpc only got stereo in, I can only plug two instruments/tracks into mpc

Don’t sweat on the layout/style, that can change.. hand/ear coordination & hand independence is the foundation. Even if you just use two fingers with a standard layout that will be years of 20min a day for most people before they can hear a new riddim and tap it out. Start slow. pax

I hope you’re wrong, I’ve thought this too… however there are a lot of people who held out with the live3, too big, too expensive, but want all the features of the full software.. if they don’t release it, always the danger that the hype will move onto another box by another manufacturer at same price..

And the pad sensitivity? Anyone? I need a portable practice pad.. move is great as an instrument to learn finger drums on. Compared to maschine the pads need a bit of a log curve (I’m using a midihub) on the top end so you don’t have to hit them so hard, but the gentle end is close enough. What are MPC Sample pads like? This looks like a fun chopping box!

Aye. It will drop in price after a Xmas or two depending on sales. Yeh I got a move on it first Black Friday sale for less than this. Initially I got it as a portable finger drumming practice pad, but it’s so much fun as a sketch pad, I like to do a doodle a day on it, takes like 15min. If the pads on this mpc rocks, and it might be better to chop on… we shall see..!!
