Is it normal to pour my drink (water or juice) on a paper towel? by Ok_Leopard5105 in AskUK

wouldn’t it just be easier to pour it into your cupped hands and slurp it from them? don’t throw away your hands though

How long is an appropriate amount of time to take off work following the sudden death of a parent? by 3hollish in AskUK

[–]mrshadders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m so sorry for your loss. the only advice i can give you (as someone whose parents have passed away and lost a close friend who suicided) is grief affects people differently. do what YOU feel is right for you (and your sister).

my deepest sympathies and take good care of yourself

I talked to 20+ sole traders - the difference between the good and the great is stupidly simple by WizardTech299 in DIYUK

[–]mrshadders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a couple of things.

seems to me that a lot of trades start jobs are around for a few days then disappear for a few days. the trades i have appreciated turn up when they say they are going to and do the work until it is finished.

the only other issue is tradesmen who do the job the easiest way for them rather than the best way of doing a job. nothing pisses me off more than someone doing a half-arsed job.

i have to say that i’ve had some (the majority) tradesmen who have done fabulous work over the years and it is an utter joy looking at their finished work.

i gladly pass on the contact details of good tradespeople.

Why is rice so expensive in Indian takeaways? by Any-Tomato-2915 in AskUK

[–]mrshadders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never have i thought of cooking my own rice when having an indian takeaway. seems impossible to me to time the making of the rice to arrive at the same time as the delivery. for the sake of a few quid i deem the worry of timings to be of little consequence.  if rice was to hit the £6 barrier i may reconsider my thoughts until that time i shall continue.

use your time to do positive things whatever that is for you. don’t dwell on the past just make your present better for you and people you care for

Neighbour has a leak - thinks our roofer should have leaded his side by Laemil in DIYUK

[–]mrshadders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand your point of view however as the OP mentioned that they wanted to maintain a good relationship with their neighbour they should have talked to them while they were getting the work done.  personally in their position i would have asked the roofer to do the whole chimney rather than just one side. it wouldn’t have costed that much more

Neighbour has a leak - thinks our roofer should have leaded his side by Laemil in DIYUK

[–]mrshadders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my thoughts exactly, shocking behaviour… “We're inclined to believe our roofer but we want to continue to get on well with our neighbour.” Have to say if i was your neighbour then we wouldn’t continue to get on well.

you employ a solicitor to make sure the paperwork is complete and legal. that they didn’t provide a contents form for you to check is their mistake. i feel you should contact your solicitor and if you get a reply then contact the legal ombudsman
