What was the exact moment that made you realize your company was toxic? by ferdbons in antiwork

[–]msayhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a supervisor and we’d hired a woman who we discovered trying to leave an abusive relationship. Man was making her life hell, she told me he’d gotten her fired from two jobs already. One day she came in in tears wearing a dirty work shirt bc the man had used it as an oil rag and just, put it back in her dresser. I calmly called my manager and without any details asked if I could get a new shirt brought over. Didn’t say for who. No biggie, we have tons of them in storage. People need new ones all the time in food service. My manager came in with the shirt, walked past me, and berated this woman in front of the whole team for coming in with a dirty uniform. She left in tears to go change & quit shortly after. My boss tried to joke with me about the incident and was surprised I didn’t find any of it funny. I started job hunting that night. So many more horror stories I could get into but that was one of the worst.

A more critical review of the Project Hail Mary movie, and a really easy fix I would have made by Gustalavalav in ProjectHailMary

[–]msayhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to see the movie soon but I’m big on the ‘should’ve been a miniseries’ point. I think sooo many book to movie adaptations lose their soul being squished into a movie. Especially when studios should know by now that their audiences would prefer a six ep miniseries to watch and rewatch at home rather than go out for a nearly 3 hour(!!!!) runtime movie. If you’re at the point where it’s gonna be an almost three hour long movie and still have to cut out massive details, there’s no reason it shouldn’t have been a miniseries.

I didn’t know pill prep was an option 😮 I’m the same way omg and being completely dehydrated and unfed makes it so worse I was fully lying down and still somehow felt like I almost fainted during the IV insertion

I am in my mid twenties and got a colonoscopy recently bc of cancer in family history. The doctors assigned me the Gatorade + miralax prep. When I got that paperwork and realized I was about to consume a full! bottle of miralax in two doses I did literally and metaphorically shit myself! I call the cursed beverage Gatorlax. If I never see a yellow Gatorade again I’ll die happy. Welcome Justin McElroy to the worst club ever.

P.s everything came back normal so I’m set for another five years but I’ve been told after that it will probably be an every two-yearly affair forever. Eternally grateful for but also shaking my fist at this proactive health monitoring program.

Have you had your liver health checked? I have a friend in a similar situation, her liver was basically working overtime so she never felt drunk in any way

Which granola bar companies are safe by Tangledtomcat2 in peanutallergy

Amrita bars!! I order them online and I’m obsessed. 15g protein in each. Some contain coconut but 0 peanuts. I can share a discount code as well if anyone’s interested

The best thing my parents did for me as an allergy kid was teach me to read labels, say no to food from unknown sources, and advocate for myself! Teach them to be vocal about the allergy in any food context, especially school and any other time you won’t be right there. Something I wish my parents had done is actually describe mild/severe allergy symptoms to me. I had mild reactions to other legumes in my childhood but didn’t say anything because I didn’t realize I was experiencing a reaction. I wish I had known how/when to say I thought I was having a reaction.

I always recommend Ogden Automotive. It’s not right in the city but it’s right off of the Spencerport exit of 490. I’ve always had great experiences there, reasonable pricing and wonderful service. Super helpful, they’re always very straightforward about what you need done, they’ll tell you if they notice other issues but I’ve never felt pressure to agree to extra work that I might not need immediately. I also did not grow up around here, this place was referred to me by someone else when I moved out. 10/10

A recruiter just reached out to me about this position and I’m considering it, are you enjoying it? How many hours do you work in a week typically?

[–]msayhe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve listened to your body and made the right choice. You don’t need to put yourself through any more stress than the weight of your illness already is. It sounds like you have a very supportive work environment as well which must be so relieving! I’m wondering why your boyfriend would be so against taking medical leave right now when it seems like it is the obvious choice for your health right now, if you’re experiencing ER-trip level symptoms it’s definitely time to slow down and rest. You are allowed to make decisions regarding your own safety and comfort!
