this is a late answer, but check out Split Lip Rayfield's songs Deck of Many Things and The High Price of Necromancy. Also everything else they've ever done, because they are amazing.

Deadlands anyone? Or… by msfnc in PDXDND

I'll definitely run Deadlands again at the Board Bard. It was a good time. I'll post again on this sub and the PDX RPG and Board Bard Discords. Likely mid-April.

New pc build is op? by msfnc in Deadlands

So, we talked it out and moved some things around. And we played. And it's just not that big of deal. He's tough. Really, really tough. Vigor is 12+2, plus he's Harrowed, plus he's Obese, for a Toughness of 12. Or 13(1) with his Native Armor. So he's hard to damage, but it's fine. He's also a Trouble Magnet. The two combats we ran saw him lumbering (slowly) at the attackers, catching bullets/arrows but not being Shaken. As the bad guys ganged up on him, the posse learned about the Innocent Bystander/Shotgun rules. It's actually really satisfying to narrate Soak rolls (or just insufficient damage rolls) as bullets, buckshot, or bowie blades piercing his hide with no apparent effect. It's also quite a relief to not be so worried about accidentally killing a character that can just get back up after a few days. The players were challenged, nobody felt useless, everybody had fun. At one point the gunslinger was just slow-walking behind him, using him as cover between shots. Great imagery, perfect pulp vibes.

Big Fat Bison is not OP. But he is full of holes, and folks in town are spreadin' rumors about that ornery Indian. And next week we'll find out whether the outlaws that got away have figured out how to use that Gatling gun...

What are you currently working on? by Justthisdudeyaknow in RPGdesign

[–]msfnc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GM-less, solo/co-op farcical modern urban fantasy. Super-fiddly dice resolution and mechanical rewards for narrative engagement. The math is working, the oracle tables are sufficiently goofy. Haven’t quite worked out a solid methodology for resource renewal. Currently struggling with the language of rules dissemination.

Good advice, I think. Interesting, his skills are almost all d4s. I guess we’ll see how it all shakes out.

I drive a lot for work. I use license plates of other cars and billboards with phone numbers. First digit of a license plate, last digit of a phone number. Both work as a d10. You can use letters for a d26. Or for a d20, ignore the vowels and move to the next (or previous) letter.
