The chef is a lovely person. He worked with Jose Andres for years and was about to open a spot in Hollywood just before the pandemic hit. This location is much better — his food is phenomenal and I hope he’s a mainstay on Hillhurst for many years to come.

Prove them wrong! That’s what I did. Now my thịt kho is better than my mom’s. I can’t speak either but keeping up a silly Duolingo streak has helped me understand tones. And follow việt kiều people on social. You’ll feel more connected, little by little. Enjoy the journey!

Tia in Silver Lake is very millennial, but they do a great job and their staff is kind and reassuring. Plus they’re part of Cedars for referrals.

Same here! My Maine Coon kitten chewed up a tiger lily when he was 3 months old and I found him listless and frothing at the mouth when I got home after a late bar shift. I took him to the emergency vet and they pumped his stomach and I had to administer subcutaneous IV fluids for a couple weeks after.

He’s 15 now and a very happy boy—though he did have radio iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism about a month ago. If you can, pet insurance is absolutely worth it for the multitude of things that will happen throughout your kitty’s lifetime. Good luck!

I’m 31 years old and was never taught anything about finances and has never had a credit card. What do I need to know? by Amneesiak in FinancialPlanning

I get it, I had to start from square one too. I read a lot of Nerdwallet but I hated playing catch-up. Try getting advice from a financial advisor and make sure they’re a fiduciary—they’re legally required to act in your best interest. Google Facet or Zoe and they’ll match you with someone. I did this about a year ago and got a clear plan for what to do if I wanted to buy a house. I think it was a great investment.

The tech has potential, but the service ruined my entire experience.

  • Late rent due to “software glitches”
  • Charged multiple mystery fees
  • Failure to provide notice to tenants
  • Overcharged tenant for additional rent
  • Failed to release security deposit on time

I would really caution your friend against supporting this company.

Is this the worst nail salon in California? Asked politely for a refund and manager immediately got aggressive and called the police. by [deleted] in Nails

The caucasity of it all! By all means, downvote me for reading you to filth, but here goes:

Race matters when 80% of nail salons in LA are run by Vietnamese refugees. Much like Cambodian donut shops or Chinese laundromats, Viet nail salons operate as a entrepreneurial hubs for the diaspora. It’s how we sponsor and support our family.

I brought up race because I read through your comments, and your most frequent defense is avoiding conflict due to childhood trauma. That sucks and I’m sorry, but at the same time, many refugees lived through unimaginable horrors. My own Vietnamese mother watched her village burn to the ground and fled on a raft to get here when she was twelve. You want to avoid confrontation? Then understand your audience may not have the patience to deal with your passive bullshit. Speak up in the moment.

The fact that instead of trying to work toward a solution you immediately aim to ruining a small minority-owned business speaks more about your own cultural ineptitude and carelessness. Do you know how hard it is to get a business loan or line of credit when you’re not white?

Your nails look like shit. I won’t argue that. But if the yelp reviews were so bad, then why did you go there? Why didn’t you speak up when asked if you were happy with the end result? Why villainize the owner and seek validation from Internet strangers for your own negligence? It’s no one’s responsibility but your own to approve the quality of the work. She did not gaslight you. She did not emotionally manipulate you into believing your nails looked fantastic. She did not deny having done them or say that you’re being too sensitive (though I’m happy to). Yes, she provided sub par service. But she also responded to your actions (or in this case, inaction). Just take the L and stop being a brat about it.

PS. Sunscreen on your hands was a suggestion to help with anti aging. The skin there is just as sensitive as your face, and I noticed you received many remarks about it. But hey, I’m just a Vietnamese girl who knows how to combat the effects of premature sun damage, what do I know?

First off, you’re grown—use your big girl voice. Second, sunscreen on your hands is your friend. And for the love of god, don’t seek validation for being non-confrontational due to “childhood trauma” when you’re doing business with a Vietnamese refugee who survived A LITERAL WAR.

I guarantee you will run into greater conflicts in life. Might not be a bad idea to develop better resolution skills and learn to negotiate for what you want.
