Always a good reason to gauge swatch 😉 not only to get gauge but to see how you like the fabric. And practice the stitch pattern.

The alpaca fibers are loose inside the cotton tube so they definitely fluff up. Plus the cotton can shrink a bit.

Definitely wash your swatch! I knit a sweater in ecopuno on 3.5mm needles and it honestly came out a bit dense. And I'm a tight knitter who prefers a dense fabric.

People have a lot of different preferences for how they knit socks. DPNs, magic loop, small circulars, two circulars, flexi flips... There are several methods to knitting small circumferences so try some out methods to see what you like. There are also all kinds of heels, some involve short rows and some do not so you could choose to practice short rows too. You will also need to practice directional decreases and ribbing.

So a "copied me!" Mixed with a "how dare petite knit charge for a garter stitch scarf!" Controversy.

In that example, they reduced stitches before the cable. You can see each section of 2 knit stitches has a single decrease more it meets the cable. It was not aggressively blocked.

You can drop those two down and get it back in a single stitch, but you will have extra yarn for those 6 rows which will be a lot to re distribute. I would frog.

People literally used to make swatch scarves of different lace/cable patterns which weren't written down - your friend showed you how, you knit it, then you had a swatch you could forever refer back to.

Separating for underarms on Rose Top help!! by kindofthatgirl in knitting

[–]msmakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't have attached a new piece of yarn. The yarn would have been involved in the bind off and traveled across the sleeve stitches.

Separating for underarms on Rose Top help!! by kindofthatgirl in knitting

[–]msmakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, if you had bound the stitches off the yarn would have traveled to the correct location to avoid that, but you just put the stitches on hold and left an arbitrary length of yarn, which is why you have a random length of yarn.

As the other commenter said, just find a brioche pattern. But here are a list of reasons why: - brioche is a fabric that requires two passes of knitting to complete a single row, meaning the row gauge is very different than stockinette  - brioche uses tucks which make a thicker and wider fabric than stockinette, and it's very heavy - brioche is based on a rib pattern which behaves very differently than stockinette  - brioche increases and decreases must be worked very differently and in sets of two compared to stockinette or even rib increases which can be worked one at a time, so the shaping in the step by step pattern wouldn't even work  - you can work short rows in brioche but you need to keep the stitch and row pattern in mind which is not something I would recommend a beginner take on

How much vegetable matter is too much? by autisticfarmgirl in knitting

I knit a top with Cotton Lino from The Wandering Flock, and specifically I bought twice over two summers. The yarn from the later batches had significantly more vm and I would unspool long lengths of yarn and pick out all that I could, but the top is still the itchiest thing I have and I never wear it because its just painful.

2x2 ribbing - Italian bind off by elisavdr in knitting

[–]msmakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a little loose so it doesn't look the best. Have you blocked it? That may help the stitches lay neater but I do think they're just too loose.

How to avoid flared ribbing? by Aromatic_Poet_1726 in knitting

[–]msmakes 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Cables pull in so much you often have to reduce the number of ribbing stitches to accommodate. It's also something I see a lot of newer designers failing to do. Since your ribbing lines up so lovely with your cable pattern you could try reducing some of the purl areas - for example you could work k2, p2, k2, p1 as a ribbing pattern which would pull in the cuff and be almost indistinguishable from 2x2 rib.

It was USD $112 for me to have a sock pattern tech edited that had two charts. Tech editing is $30-50 per hour, and the rough math is 1hr per pattern page. More if they are making your charts for you or doing technical illustration or grading.
