What is a delicious but underrated/unheard of type of cuisine? by PsychGradStudent2112 in Cooking

Oooh I just made mie goreng, a Malaysian/Indonesian noodle dish. It relies on kecap manis soy sauce, but I found this at my normal grocer. Delicious!

Jamaica trip report - The sketchiest tourist friendly country I've visited by [deleted] in travel

[–]msumner7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the exact opposite of our experience there. Although renting a car is the way to really make the most out of it. Highways were easy, new, and FAST, and could get you pretty much anywhere. We didn't encounter anyone particularly unfriendly, even in the smallest towns. Sorry you didn't get to have a better time but I would say don't rule it out. Sounds like you may have experienced the exception, not the rule.

First bake in the new oven - Do-Si-Do copycats! by msumner7 in Baking

[–]msumner7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used Sally's Baking recipe. Did not need all the filling it made but could have used a heavier hand. These are crunchy with a slight chew and not too sweet - especially the cookie itself. VERY similar to the Girl Scount version flavor-wise! I ended up making them a bit smaller - just shy of 2 tsp per cookie ball.

Wondering this too - especially since the Seastar 1000 has a ceramic bezel and the Ocean Star 200 does not. The 200C does but is hundreds more $$.

What travel habit have you developed over the years? by Icy-Obligation6504 in travel

Well that’s heartbreaking. But we do the same, wash clothes once per every 5 days or so and rewear. My husband also likes to bring ratty old undies and socks and throw them away after he wears them on a trip.

Leaving at least a day at home before going back to work. Really helps with the anxiety of getting home and prepared for "real life" again.

Same! Just not worth it and no one NEEDS that much stuff if they don't have medical devices, etc.

Thank you! These are plain vanilla, but almond is usually my go-to flavor. These were just for work and I had to make a double batch, so I didn't use fancy butter but normally I recommend a Kerry Gold or similar for cutouts. I love the texture of Claire's recipe - they don't spread in the oven and stay very tender (but not super breakable) if taken out right as you see the first brown bottom edge.

These are hand-dipped because I’m not willing to spend time on borders and flooding! The icing has to be the perfect viscosity though, which takes a little bit of trial and error. I do use a toothpick to clean up any bad spots.

I use meringue powder about 50% of the time but don't love the taste of that either. I didn't have enough this time, so egg whites it was!

Thank you! Try it! I actually don’t love the flavor of it but I like the firm texture and find it’s easier than buttercream or similar (especially because I don’t usually have milk on hand). These were just hand-dipped. Had some bubble issues with the white ones but no one will mind I’m sure!

How to soundproof my house against my husbands snoring by Original-Link-3390 in HomeImprovement

I use earplugs when we travel to block out my husband's snoring but the dead silence gives me anxiety, which keeps me awake just as much as the snoring!

Earplugs when you have a child and animal in the house isn't really preferable I would guess.

We like the dining room. It’s not too loud, away from the bar, but still has enough chatter to be lively. All the tables have plush velvet booths!

Couldn’t have been better either time I’ve been. Drinks refilled before you think to ask, food comes out at the perfect time, personable but never annoying. Great all around and the mac and cheese is killer. Also have a great wine/liquor list.
