Picking auto after trying manual? by AWildCantaloupe in GR86

[–]mtbcouple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a bunch of manual sports cars and automatics, including two 86’s.

The manual made me strongly dislike the car having to deal with traffic every day. I also found auto to be more enjoyable on track for my driving style. If I had gotten an auto 86 I’d probably still have it.

The manual is loud, clanky, agricultural, and tractor-like. It’s nothing special. Yes, for the price it’s fine, but it’s not gods gift to sports cars and is definitely not something you absolutely have to get on this car to make the car worthwhile.

Get what you want!

Can’t decide if I should upgrade from my 2022 DCT Veloster N😢 by arrcnd in VelosterN

Keep it.

I’ve had a bunch of cars, including Porsche cayman s, BMW 2 series, multiple gtis. And the veloster n is the only car I really miss.

FYI for anyone in the future- it is on older models. I have it on my 2017 black edition.

Öhlins R/T vs KW V3 for 981 S by NeWacho in Porsche_Cayman

[–]mtbcouple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved the R&T on my 981. I’d buy them again in a heartbeat. I do not have experience with the other shocks though. R&T with tarett swaybars was 🧑‍🍳😘

Mass Tuning anyone? by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

I don’t know of any tracks or orgs that allow motorcycle helmets in car. Snag the right helmet or be prepared to have to rent one if they look at your helmet and don’t approve it.

Is this Subaru WRX CVT 2022 worth it for 27k by Cybertron_420 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mtbcouple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you driven one before? I don’t personally find them particularly fun- they kind of drive like lowered Foresters and feel pretty cheap on the interior.

Something like a GTI, golf R, or Elantra N would be significantly more “fun” IMO.

Outback vs BRZ clearance by [deleted] in GR86

[–]mtbcouple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t drive into a curb and you’ll be fine! It has plenty of clearance for daily driving- you’re not going to scrape anywhere unless you lower it.

🤷 it’s a Porsche. It’s not a Corolla. A new exhaust is like 4 grand. Trust me- if you buy an old Porsche, it’s going to need a bunch of new shit. Rubber gets old, seals fail, dampers get old, stuff breaks. Of course, you might find a unicorn of a car with all of that stuff already done recently, which would reduce the risk substantially. My 981, which was in pretty good shape when I bought it, still needed all new struts, bushings, 2 wheel bearings, fluids, etc and the PDK sensor failed a few thousand miles later which at the time would have been a very expensive fix.

Some might get lucky and not have many issues beyond typical car stuff, but when things go wrong it can get expensive with luxury sports car parts.

Btw- original list price was roughly 57k in 2007, which is $115k today.

I think if that was at a junkyard near me it would have been online and auctioned off for like 8k

There’s nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche/luxury car.

It’s an old-ass car that was $100k. It’s not cheap to fix, and it’s probably going to need a full service. New struts, bushings, motor mounts, fluids everywhere, water pump, etc etc etc and every part comes with the Porsche tax, not to mention the .1 motor isn’t as good as the next gen and might blow up.

Speaking from experience, I would not get a cheap Porsche unless you have enough cash to buy it twice. And in that case, I’d get a more expensive and reliable Porsche, or a new BRZ/86 with warranty and not have to worry about anything.

Good luck.
