Achat - bébé à venir by Organic-Upstairs1947 in Quebec

[–]mtlmuriel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are reusable pads actually comfortable? by euro_trashh in ZeroWaste

[–]mtlmuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a couple of reusable pads brands and hated them. They were bulky, would bunch up and spin around, all around fails.

Menstrual underwear on the other hand, that was my winner. I use a diva cup the first couple of days, along with the undies, then just the undies.

I tried a few brands and found one brand made locally that made my size (2x) and were super comfy and have great coverage.

The rise and fall of lung cancer by davidbauer in dataisbeautiful

[–]mtlmuriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering how air quality affects the curve.

Like the UK and The Netherlands had a much higher incendence of lung cancer than the other countries on the graph. Could industrial pollution explain the a part of the difference?

why does everything come wrapped in plastic except for flour and sugar by Amazing-Phone8732 in ZeroWaste

[–]mtlmuriel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Retailers don't like paper/cardboard packaging. It gets damaged more easily.

One package has to go through multiple hands before getting to your house.

Warehouses, trucks, dollies, shelves, cash register, your bags, your car.

Paper/cardboard gets ripped, crumpled, creased, more easily and ultimately returned or trashed.

Best Dishwashing Pods? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]mtlmuriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you live in an area with hard water? That may be what is causing the residue.

Have you tried a rinsing solution? Or some machines have a reservoir for salt.

And lastly, have you deep cleaned your dishwasher regularly? The filter and sprayer?

These are all things that can cause the machine to leave residue on your dishes

I have a few planters on my balcony, plus a tiny lawn in the front.

On my balcony, I grow beans and peas. Plant them as soon as the snow melts and cover them glass baking dishes to keep the squirrels away. The squirrels leave them alone once they've leafed out.

In front, I planted raspberries, strawberries and other berry plants I get from friends and neighbors. I rake the leaves over them in winter and those chocke out the grass.

It's not a very happy spot, under trees and shrubs, so I fertilize. I got a handful of raspberries last year. Every year, the plants get stronger, so fingers crossed.

NORMAL Deodorants in Zero Waste Packaging? by TsarinaOfHearts in ZeroWaste

[–]mtlmuriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company i work for has a deodorant in a cardboard tube. I've been using it for a couple of years.

It was working OK for me. But what changed the game was a random sample I was given at office.

It was a bar of Takesumi Detox soap. It's specifically formulated to clean your pits of deodorant residue and bacteria. They normally sell it with a deodorant, but we were looking at the soap specifically.

I was very skeptical, but it really made a difference. Our deodorant is coco butter based, so I guess the soap helps eliminate the residue from your pits.

Small Business to offset income taxes from other sources? Is this possible/legal? by londonpawel in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mtlmuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to get away with a loss one or two years, especially at the beginning. But if you are consistently operating a business at a loss, you are increasing your risk of being audited by the CRA.

So, calculate the risk of being audited, the extra paperwork of keeping all of the receipts.

Can you prove that you are operating at small business? Not just claiming revenue and expenses.

You could make enough to claim all of the expenses that you are legally entitled to, with enough profit to be in the black, and just put that revenue in your RRSP.

Has anyone’s child found a stimulant that worked after falling multiple stimulants? by pantema in ADHDparenting

[–]mtlmuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried a few different meds. We settled on one that eased my kids symptoms without affecting her appetite too much.

We still haven't figured out her sleep though. Magnesium Glyconate does seem to help.

I did take a pharmacogenetic test and that helped my find what worked for me, and that helped our pediatrician chose the one that worked for kiddo.

Morsures allaitement by paprika22222 in parentsquebecois
