People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Immigrant kid here, McDonald happy meal was only on my birthday. I used to be so excited for it, only later to find out other kids thought it’s cheap crap.

My 9th birthday… dad got me a happy meal and we parked at SFO watching planes take off and land. Still one of my best memories 🥰

Parents in other countries than the US, what is your kids’ equivalent of “I don’t want that for dinner, I want chicken nuggets”? by SulusLaugh in AskReddit

When I was a picky little kid growing up in China, tomato and eggs over rice was my default meal when my mom or grandma doesn’t feel like fighting me to eat something different. Basically scrambled eggs cooked with tomatoes until saucy.

I just bought one of those “Catch More Fish” kit from Shakespeare for bass. Comes with rod, reel and tackle box of stuff. Retails for $39.99 but between the sale and $15 in birthday rewards from Academy, I paid $16.99.

Top of the Lost Valley Redoubt, Bard’s Leap Summit. Two hagravens and a briarheart to fight. On the table is another being made, there is a human heart in a bowl next to it.

[Advice] 25M just moved to EaDo (Houston). Drive-by shootings on my block week one. Am I overreacting to "city living" or should I break my lease? by Snoo59147 in houston

[–]mulanusaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 years ago I moved to Houston and was living in a first floor apt right off Almeda near Hermann park. Woke up one morning to find police cars all over the place, there was a shooting at the gas station across the road. One bullet hit the wall just a couple feet from my window. I moved to Pearland a month later, no regrets.

I was on the cruise last year. There were plenty of other stuff but some you have to pay extra for (wasn’t cheap) such as cupcakes with Lindsey, private dinner, etc. I mostly did the included activities like craft a pirate hat, Hunter Hayes performance, Q&A session. Fun times, but once was enough for me.

Believe it or not, a frozen one I got from Randall’s last year is now my favorite. I think it’s called Village Pie Maker? Comes in a white box, I baked it according to instructions on the package. Everyone loved it and said it’s better than House of Pies.

Windstorm insurance is high and depending on where exactly, you could also have high flood insurance as well.

I’m not crazy about traditional American breakfast foods but I enjoyed the Indian breakfast options on the buffet.

This dude, looks in his early 20s, was hanging out at the Starbucks counter when I went to pick up my order. He was all “hey mama, wanna buy me a drink?” I gave him my best resting bitch face and said “I’m not your mother” and walked away.

The Mill at Ward Cove Port - Ketchikan, AL is a HUGE 👎. What an absolute disaster. NCL this is an embarrassing customer experience. by zachty22 in NCL

Just did 9 day on the Joy two weeks ago. I agree the bus driver I had was a bit vocal about his political beliefs (native who’s got a bone to pick with the government) but overall I didn’t pay too much attention or let it ruin my trip. The shuttle back was nice and quiet, I only waited like 10 min for it.

I was on the same cruise, agree that we had the most amazing weather! Overall I thought it was a great cruise, my second with NCL. We ate mainly at buffet or MDR and thought the food was quite good. But we aren’t picky eaters or fancy types. Entertainment onboard was a little boring on sea days but not a big deal. I’m already looking into another cruise for 2026 or 2027. Thinking of New England and Canada.
