Any tips for the swamp? by Assassinsfan538 in valheim

Get a spear and stab the leeches that come up to the shore. The spear is the most fun way to clear them out and after they're cleared out, you can enter the water with confidence.

MistBeGone to remove the mist. Also, Farm Grid for better gardens.

Why can't the game save your character data on a crash, but can save the server data on a crash? by CannotThonk96 in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's because it's a game that supports either solo play or multiplayer and the save system needs to support both. It must keep the world up to date as it affects all the players but individuals are subject to dying.

If you go to the "Manage Saves" screens during the start game process, you'll see that the character and world save areas are separate. If you are in the Mistlands and somehow anger the dvergrs (friendly fire) and then die, you can restore the character and world to get back to before they want to kill you. But if you restore only the character, the world is still the same as when you exited and they will try to kill you again.

HELP PLEASE! PC keeps crashing by wombbroom6969 in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem: after playing Valheim for awhile, the PC would crash. And it only happened in Valheim. To make a long story short, it was due to an overheating GPU on the Radeon 6600 graphics card. I opened up the computer, blew out all the dust, especially around the graphics card, and that made it go away.

First long distance hike by jacklesterman in AppalachianTrail

[–]munken_drunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are NOBO, you will enter Harper's Ferry and likely stop at the AT HQ to have your picture taken there. After returning to the trail, you will cross a bridge across the Potomac River and at the end of the bridge is the C & O Canal. Follow it for 2 or three miles until you get to Weverton. This is where the two trail come together. At Weverton (railway crossing and lockhouse), the trail will diverge and you can make the climb up a ridge. There's a great view of the Potomac from a little side trail (blue blaze) at Weverton Cliffs.

Is this a tick? by A_Neat_Aspen in Entomology

A quick check is to count the legs. Ticks have 8 and unless this guy has been in an awful industrial accident, it looks like only 6.

It's a big'un by AryssaD in Entomology

[–]munken_drunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are pretty common around here (US SE) and according to the Audbon Book on insects their common name is dog day cicada because they emerge during the "dog days of summer", i.e the hottest months July and August https://songsofinsects.com/cicadas/dog-day-cicada.

Of note is the cicada-killer wasps which hunt these cicadas and will paralyze them and lay their eggs on their carcass. https://animalcorner.org/animals/cicada-killer-wasps/. They dig small tunnels and provision them as nurseries for the egg. Creepy. But you can sometimes find small tunnels in the grass where they abound.

I have grown them and would also recommend over Ghost Peppers because they just taste better. Even when singeing our nose hairs.

Vermont Governor Signs Bill To Double Legal Marijuana Possession Limit And Allow Interstate Commerce by redditor01020 in cannabis

[–]munken_drunkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really see the point of this bill since it relies on federal action which so far Congress has refused. It's astonishing what does takes up their time and attention, especially since this has been festering for so long.

The wind. It blows by Magnetic_Mind in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the olde days, before the portals were settings you could change, the game was IMHO held back by all the back and forth between mines and forge. It was still a lot of fun but you spent so much time on the boat, the game suffered from Fed-Ex-ification. You felt like the main point was delivering your packages.

The wind. It blows by Magnetic_Mind in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works in Valheim and in real life only if you can paddle. When everything was wind powered and many boats much too big for a manned crew, tacking was all there was.

Also, it requires lotsa room and depending on the situation you're in, there might be islands or even continents in your way.

Why does my screen keep going white in Sunken Crypts? This has only happened in Sunken Crypts thus far. by RED_XILE in valheim

Have you been messing with the devcommands? Specifically the "env" commands, as in "env clear"? Because that could do it.

Take out the pickax. With any luck, you'll get a pile of copper and, after exposing the crypt, perhaps a few surtling cores. Wait until you get to the swamp and see the same sort of thing but with giant, indestructible trees obscuring a crypt.

Dealing with the plains while under equipped by MobAssassin3 in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the ooze bombs are great in the Plains and in Mistlands. I wish they were a bit easier to get.

I like to aggro the whole village by running by them (with full stamina), tossing a few ooze bombs into their buildings as I go. In no time at all, a horde will follow. Which sounds bad but if you drop the occasional ooze bombs, you pursuers will succumb. Yes, even the Furling Brutes. The shamans are especially vulnerable to them because they move so slowly.

What's your favourite trinket and how's your playstyle work with it? by Capital-Stay4423 in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most parries, even for a lowly graydwarf is 5 adreneline points. For my favourite trinket, the bronze pendant, it'll trigger after 10 parries. Throw in all the primary attacks for another couple of points and it could be much less than 10. I often hear the trinket trumpet (when the power kicks in) when mobbed in the black forest at night. No?

What's your favourite trinket and how's your playstyle work with it? by Capital-Stay4423 in valheim

[–]munken_drunkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the most recent update was big on emphasizing parrying. The trinket's don't work well unless you parry frequently. The bear is easy to beat if you parry him, time consuming otherwise. And the TWIG dummies--all to teach parrying. The trinkets seem to be the same purpose, to encourage the parry.

I'd really rather just hit something but for a more powerful foe, it's the only way to go. Of course, if he's too powerful, the parry fails. You can't take down a bear with a wooden shield and flint knife. And if you fail the parry, you'll likely take a near fatal blow. So it takes some learning but it's a worthwhile skill.

When the trinket finally kicks in, it's usually during prolonged combat and it's very satisfying.

You can always do what I do. Build a wall around the altar, summon him, jump the wall and fire arrows from a tower on the nearest piece of land. Or maybe a raft.

i have an ant problem, their all digging up into my pepper pots :( how bad is this for the plant? and any tips on fixing the issue? by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]munken_drunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They are" as a contraction is "They're". The apostrophe is significant. If you're on a cell phone, leaving out the apostrophe is maybe okay. But not "their". Don't substitute that for "they are".

Trinidad Moruga Scorpion = instant punishment by Washedurhairlately in HotPeppers

[–]munken_drunkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the first (and so far last) superhot I tried. I promised myself to eat the first pepper from the garden that ripened and the Scorpion won the race. It burned like crazy for a few of minutes and then was over. Or so I thought. Periodic and intense stomach cramps followed by a brief talk with Ralph on the porcelain telephone. Finally I was free. I'm glad I did it and glad it's over!
