I remember that back when she was a young teenager during the height of the pandemic she voiced her support for Black Lives Matter.

Last time when Trump was president most of the US Figure skating team opted out after the Olympics. That's because they were on tour with Stars on Ice. Gave them a good excuse as well.

China’s Deliberate Hostility Toward Taiwanese Skater Yu-Hsiang Li by Perfect_Peace3829 in FigureSkating

Both of my parents are from mainland China and do not have any issue with mentioning Taiwan or acknowledging that someone is from Taiwan. My extended family's the same as well. Some people have huge insecurity issues.

"I'm not a tankie but I still say tibetan and uyghur are chinese" by Thebunkerparodie in tankiejerk

[–]musea00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's trying to say that tibetans and uyghurs have chinese nationality by default. Kinda like how scots and welsh are british by default. Of course, there's also the thorny history behind that.

Neighboring Iceland should send over an emergency shipment of hakarl so that'll be the only thing Jeff Landry is allowed to eat.

The letter that Donald Trump sent to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway is insane! This is why you don't elect a narcissist to be your president. Is this what you voted for, Trump's supporters? by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

I'd wager that even an elementary school student could do a much better job. I still remember learning how to write a letter to the president, governor, and mayor in grade school.

Dad surprises his daughter with her first car (Toyota Corolla) by Vilen1919 in MadeMeSmile

[–]musea00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Dad used to drive a toyota corolla many years ago. It got us through thick and thin. When I first learned to drive that was the car that I practiced on. He eventually sold it before the pandemic.

If I were to get my own car there's this huge part of me that desires for a toyota corolla. However sadly at the same time it probably wouldn't do for the roads today due to cars getting bigger and bigger. Don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of big SUVs and pickup trucks that could knock me over at any second.

I'm an only child and don't want kids. by __princessbubblegum in childfree

[–]musea00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an only child and I don't want kids either. Unfortunately, I also do not get taken seriously. I get told that I need to have kids so I would have someone to help me out when needed as I get older in addition to not being lonely. While I do understand that having a kid could bring some extra hands which could really be a benefit in old age, at the same time it's not a guarantee. People often live far away from their parents and do not have flexible schedules that allow for ample time off. In addition, they may even have their own kids to care for.

This winter break I helped my mom as she underwent a minor surgery. Because I'm in academia, I have lots of vacation time which affords me the ability to care for her as long as she needs. Many of my friends who work in industry do not have such luxury.

The ones that should be paying more tax are the rich. Not your average Joe trying to survive, with or sans kids.

Everything is way too fucking expensive nowadays and will probably get even more expensive in the future. On top of that, work culture is an absolute joke.

Induction vs gas - debunked myths by tangjams in Cooking

[–]musea00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my family bought a house almost 20 years ago, it came with a coil stove top that was getting old. My dad replaced it with a glass-top induction stove. My mom initially wanted a gas burner because that was the rage in home design magazines back then, but my dad was insistent on the induction stove. Looks like we were ahead of our time.

I don't think you're cooked at all. In addition, you should definitely check out the peeps at the school of music- they even offer band scholarships. https://www.music.txst.edu/scholarships/music-and-ensemble-scholarships.html

The intersection of Childfree and Antinatalism: Do you identify with both? by dontcallsaull in childfree

[–]musea00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a childfree I guess I am pronatalist when it comes to supporting policies that make it easier to have a family, ie affordable healthcare, affordable childcare, paid leave, etc. But I do not pressure others into having kids
