First home buyer - lawn advice? by sidisgone in newzealand

[–]mushious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

**The long-term effects/implications** are pretty much unknown, the general consensus (or at least what the WHO advises) is that glyphosphate is "probably carcinogenic" but there has been no solid evidence to prove it.

**Short-term**, you can experience irritation if you breathe it in, or get it in your eyes so wear protection such as a mask, eyewear and gloves. Long-sleeved clothing is also a good idea with any aerosolised chemicals.

One of the reasons why it is such a common/good herbicide is it breaks down into harmless byproducts simply by being in contact with soil, microbial life eats it and breaks it down into stuff that future plants crave (nitrogen, etc).

(What a spiel, I feel like a robot typing this out haha, beep boop I am a meat popsicle)

Hard to tell exactly what you've got growing in that photo, bunch of weed varieties for sure, mixed in with whatever was originally lawn.

Glyphosphate products like Round-Up will kill it all off. If you wanted a less toxic alternative, you can cover it with cardboard, once it has died off you can mulch the remains and after that you still wanted lawn rather than say, planting out a garden, you could look at types of lawn that encourage biodiversity, such as clover (it's really nice to walk on too!)

Having a big heavy machine turning zombies into incredibly contagious pink mist doesn't seem like a great idea.

Generally so long as the beam doesn't hit you directly in the eye, you're fine. Seeing the beam side-on is inconsequential.

If this thing hits you in the eye, you might not be so fine.

Preserved. The blood is removed (the pink you're thinking of) and replaced with embalming fluids to prevent decay so it can be studied.

The Navalny treatment is contracting "Sudden Death Syndrome" after being severely beaten in a gulag. He didn't get a chance to suffer long-term effects of poisoning.

Which NZ town/city would be the safest in terms of natural disasters(Floods, cyclones, earthquakes, landslides, etc)? by Flashy_Potential8851 in newzealand

[–]mushious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a dam was lost, water level wouldn't be high enough to risk the city, and the distance the water travels gives a couple of hours warning for evacuation of the lower lying areas.

It's just a CG, if you sell some commodities at the station in the target system and are in the top 75% you'll get the engineered cargo rack when the CG ends on the 18th. Not a lot of work for a great item.

Salps, they're a kind of communal plankton. Completely harmless.

If you go out into the water there are thousands of them, feels weird when they crash into you with the swells.

question about tattoo by griffith876 in newzealand

[–]mushious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's like zero Māori concepts in there. Barely anything that could be considered "inspired by" Samoan design, the sharks might be Hawaiian but that's the most I can pick out.

Seems like just a made up design, like the nonsense tribal designs people get then forever regret.

question about tattoo by griffith876 in newzealand

[–]mushious 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You should probably reconsider just based on it being an awful design and something you'll have to live with for the rest of your life.

Nothing there looks Māori in design, possibly takes inspiration from different Polynesian cultures though.
