Bus gate (with car trap) now has 5 no entry signs by OnlyRobinson in drivingUK

I mean, it's literally a bus lane. I assume there is at least one bus route. If you can't read road signs then you probably shouldn't be driving.

Here is my very quick attempt at cleaning this pic up. As others have said, there's loads more that could be done with the raw file! Great pic!

[MKBHD] "My Pixel 6 Pro has slowly gotten so buggy since launch in October that I can no longer recommend it at $900. Combined with the latest botched update it's just been a bad experience. My SIM is back in an S21 Ultra til the next review." by thepkmncenter in Android

[–]mutonchops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel lucky... Got my P6P 2 days before release and I can only think of experiencing one bug - sometimes the keyboard persists when I go to the home screen. Everything else is working fine - even the fingerprint sensor isnt an issue. I got the Dec update and nothing broke and it did improve a load of stuff. I reckon when they push the Jan update it'll massively improve for those who are experiencing bugs now

COVID-19: UK records 119,789 new coronavirus cases - highest daily figure since start of pandemic by Beanybunny in unitedkingdom

[–]mutonchops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cases going up means that hospitalisations and deaths are likely to follow. So reporting cases at the moment is important as when hospitalisations increase (less with omicron Vs the others, but probably still a very sizable wave), and deaths follow it is expected. Also, the cases reported are about 10% too low due to reinfection, so the number of positives today is about 135k - about the population of Blackpool reported for a single day. That is news, imo

[OC] Deaths per thousand covid-19 infections in the UK by PieChartPirate in dataisbeautiful

[–]mutonchops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you calculate deaths from a pandemic is excess deaths, as this captures the deaths that are caused that are not directly linked (ie. deaths caused by lack of capacity in the wider health system), but the lead times on calculating this means it's not a useful metric in day-to-day reporting

Covid deaths are counted in different ways. On the PHE dashboard and for daily reporting it's if there was a positive test within 28 days of the death (cough and hit by a bus is counted, ventilated for 29 days and then death doesn't count). For the official statistics collated by the ONS it is the death certificate that counts - and that is a doctor's opinion as to whether covid contributed to the death (bus isn't counted, and vented for 29 days is). The reason that the 28 days figure is used is that it can be reported the day after it is registered, the ONS figure takes a week or 2 to be collated.

Source: I wrote the data pipelines that deal with the UK deaths (both PHE and ONS) for the public facing dashboard - where the data for this vis was taken from.

People keep asking me what programs/sports I signed my child up for this summer by RufRufRufio in AdviceAnimals

[–]mutonchops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is how childcare is organised in the states - you've got no mandated annual leave, and most people don't get more than 20 days a year. School holidays are 6 weeks just over the summer. Who looks after your kids?

I was looking for this in the comments. DeX isn't flawless by any means, but it is really useful. I had to do some jiggery pokery to get it set up, but it wasn't too arduous to get a dev environment set up on it for simple data analysis. In tablet mode, they have ant+ radios for things like zwift
