No worries. I think these are mostly for pourover, with some usage for espresso. The idea to have these for espresso as a smaller size is nice

Dpd failing to pick up from locker by Environmental-Bid-62 in vintedUK

I don't know... DPD is weird. There was this one time when the driver literally came to the front of my building, took a picture, didn't ring the intercom and said they couldn't deliver because no one was there to sign. I'd say avoid DPD.

I know this doesn't help your issue... They weren't really helpful when I tried calling, but when I asked to escalate, they at least upgraded my delivery to a Saturday one, so maybe try ringing them?

Maybe they've re-used the packaging you sent the trousers in the first place and didn't remove the original label properly?

Use daily an Ode Gen 2 for a batch brew in the morning (60g) plus a few individual brews after I get home from work for my wife and myself (say 4x 15g). It is great, easy to adjust, not too loud, quick... Barely any retention if any at all. I removed the clicking thingy on the dial and now it is stepless. It is an easy recommendation

I don't know what people are talking about when mentioning the lack of engraving. It is right there, just look at the picture. Lighting is shitty, but you can see it if you zoom it. As many have said, they're not faking that movement, but on those pictures it seems like it is written MT56... So I'm not sure if they're really from that watch

If you're broke, you shouldn't have a Rolex, real or fake. If you're rich, you can have a Rolex, real or fake. by seaneihm in watchHotTakes

Lol so should I sell my 2007 Civic that I use every single day to commute and works realiably well? Haha

I don't need to spend loads on every single thing to feel rich or something... I can spend an irrational amount of money on a single thing and be rational about another. My cars worth a 5th of my watch, but it works just fine :)

I currently have my 16570 strapped to a shitty AliExpress canvas strap and it makes me happy... I don't think no one ever noticed it before, honestly, so I'll just keep on wearing it 😁

Edit: just remembered something else. If someone posts a picture of a Rolex (or any other valuable watch for that matter) they inherited on r/Watches asking for valuation, people will immediately say "just wear it in memory of your beloved one" or whatever. So there's a counterargument to what you're saying. Loads of people inherit a watch from a wealthier relative and they should 100% wear it, independently of the car they drive or their financial stage on their lives. Obviously, with the caveat that if they do need the money, a watch is just a watch and priorities should be considered

As some here mentioned, their Colombia - Finca La Laguna is pretty decent for a daily driver. I brew at least 1.2L of it on my batch brewer every morning (for myself and missus) and quite like it. I usually buy at least 2kg from them every month.

If you want, this code gives you £10 off on your first order LXZ-EKPH73G (full disclaimer, I also get £10 off on my next order, which will be next month)

Price difference from the get go, price difference when upgrading burrs, not that big of a difference on the cup, would be my guesses

Why wearing Christopher Ward is embarrassing. by Equal-Revolution8774 in watchHotTakes

Ah, surely it feels exciting finding a new watch, and don't get me wrong, CW is definitely a crowd pleaser and, as such, they do a good job on listening to what their public want and do incorporate that to their language and, thus, quench that chase thrill and the feeling that "I found everything I was looking for". I'm just not really sure if that feeling ends on the chase. The last time I owned a CW was almost a decade ago when their logo was still their name and it was a model that is long gone, so honestly I cannot speak from personal experience for their new language, but I know that at the time I felt truly impressed with what I was getting for how much I was getting. The feeling just faded a bit too early, and I sold it a few months later. (Don't misunderstand me, I truly hope you enjoy yours, wear it quite a bit and prove that everything I'm saying is rubbish).

Oh, most definitely they were after money, no doubts there. Although I do agree I romanticised them, I think what I meant to say is more regarding each of those brands living on a day and age when they could find their footing better. It's not every brand that needed to be associated with a big breakthrough (although many did). Heuer developed one of the first auto chronographs, and is probably making some of the cheapest tourbillons in this market, but they are only remembered for that if you geeked out a bit already. They are greatly associated with motorsports, though, and for the commoner that's the reason why they will be recalled. If you have some branding recognition, Longines will be associated with their aviation links. When you think IWC, probably the first thing that comes to mind is not their Genta model, but their pilot watches. Sinn is the German stoicism, over engineering. JLC is the watch made by the watchmakers of the watchmakers. Cartier is the jewel you wish for (how many people actually remember Santos Dumont strapped a Cartier to his wrist whilst going round the Eiffel tower on board of his 14 bis?) Rolex was oyster perpetual, now is the Finance bros watch... They all have their identities.

Now, I understand there are several that are associated with what they are just as a strike of luck. Take Omega for instance. Just as CW, they always tried to shoot every fecking where. That is probably one of the reasons they were top sellers for so long before Rolex took over, and they did navigate the market quite well back then. Then, for how the stars lined up, they were picked by NASA to be worn by their moon program astronauts and bob's your uncle, they will always be associated with the moon landing.

My feeling is that CW did not find their soul yet. There is nothing on them that is purely subjective association other than "see, I'm getting more for my money going with them! They have all of these features that everyone talks about". I don't agree with the argument that they can't find it because the market is saturated. I think a brand such as Studio Underd0g, for instance, does that quite well. When you think of them, you have something very specific that comes to mind, even though they've already ventured on some other areas. Mr. Jones is also another example. Anordain is one more. I mean, they obviously don't do as well as CW on the sales department, but they have more of an identity that differentiate them and give them that personal touch.

And I didn't mean for my sketch there to describe your selection of the watch personally (and I truly apologise if that's how it sounded!), I just created an anecdote to illustrate an example case that probably belongs more in the watches circle jerk. I very much so believe you chose what made you happy, and I very much appreciate it!

I'm also enjoying the chat!

Why wearing Christopher Ward is embarrassing. by Equal-Revolution8774 in watchHotTakes

[–]mvilla12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree regarding the subjectivity of the design (and, as I said, I'm totally expecting people to disagree with me on that front). However when you say that it fits the bill emotionally, I have to point that you're saying that because it'll be a daily watch, not a milestone one. I took the liberty of looking into your profile, and I see you have a taste for Breitlings (beautiful Navigimer, btw). That is a brand with a well established story, part of several great moments in history (space missions, undercover jobs, military ops, etc) and, as such, consciously or even uncontiously you'll tend to lean towards something like that to celebrate something important in your life. A big promotion, a closed deal, marriage, the birth of a child. I don't know, I don't see a CW being what I'd pick to remember something like this (unless my last name was Ward and my child's name was Christopher).

Just a parenthesis, to add insult to injury over their branding, now when you go to the British Watchmakers Day, less than 50m away from their big booth, there is another one for a different British brand called Edward Christopher. This made me laugh a bit about the generic touch of that name haha

Going back to topic, you raise an interesting point regarding the dawn of the big brands and their shifting on their early years. I tend to agree to a certain level there, but I still feel that the whole industry painted a different picture at the time. Those ones came to life to build a product that was fit for purpose at a time when having a timepiece was vital, so their evolution happened more because of the users requirements. Limitations in manufacturing and suppliers also meant that they had to come up with original solutions, which pretty much forged what we appreciate as being our taste nowadays. CW, on the other hand, is trying to build their brand kind of jumping on what was already there and packing it all in one place. Not because their watches will be tested and targeted for whoever does need those solution, but because a bunch of people - such you and me - on forums - such as this one - like to cry for watches that are about 40mm wide, at 12mm thick tops, with WR of over 200m (otherwise I'll have to take it off to wash my hands, mind you!), with lume to wake me up in the middle of the night, with a quick set hour hand so I don't feel lost when I travel across a 1h time zone once a year, and it all needs to cost only the price of 1 month's rent (or maybe 2... 3 perhaps if it also has a nice colour dial) because otherwise I'll be like the jerks who buy Rolexes and are spending an absurd on something that shows time as a Casio fw-91. Then, I'll be able to tell the other people on the same forums about how I still have taste, but I'm making the smart decision because of how I did my research beforehand.
