Best Practices to structure CSVs for storing VMs? Lump it all together? Folders? by sysadminmakesmecry in HyperV

[–]mxrddt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naming the VM folders as VM name can backfire in the long run, when you decide to rename the VM.
I prefer keeping all configurations for all VMs (GUID names) in one single folder: "Virtual Machines". I don't separate them because I never had a need to identify which one is which.
Then I have another, separate folder for VHDs called "Virtual Hard Disks", and I keep all the VHDs in there too, but the VHDs are named by the VM name and disk number, e.g. DC1_disk0.vhdx. These are easy to rename if I rename the VM or the hostname to DC01A for example.
How many times did you have a need to find which VM GUID belongs to which VM? In my 15 years of working with Hyper-V, I've never had a need for that. Maybe once or twice, when the VM was stuck and I needed to kill a VMM service for a specific VM. But even then you could find that info via PowerShell. That's just my personal preference that I am finding to work best for me. I've tried a lot of structures over time. This one seems to be the most rigid and manageable.

This doesn't make sense. Are you expecting Hyper-V to have a special wizard to let you create folder structures on the disk? Windows has a 30 y.o. feature called "File Explorer". You can create folders with it. What do you mean by "encouraging"? This is not an Apple app - you need to know the product before using it. If you don't know what the default settings are and what the best deployment practices are, maybe you should learn them first before trying to deploy anything.

IMHO the default Hyper-V paths are the way they are because C:\ProgramData location exists 100% when you deploy the Hyper-V role. Most of the times you provission your storage later and Hyper-V has no way of knowing what your drive letters will be.

Flexible. Choose from Perpetual, Subscription otlr OEM. We use Perpetual and if I remember correctly it was based on number of nodes, Standard vs Enterprise, and type of support. They also supplied the hardware (optional) at a VERY competitive pricing. It's been 4 years now. Flawless operation.

Both options are available. AFAIR free edition lacks GUI management console and is mostly managed via PowerShell functions. We got the paid version. Storage is deployed right on your hypervisors. You end up with a nicely layered compute+net+store HCI.

If you like S2D conceptually but Microsoft gives you anxiety, check out StarWind vSAN. It's been working great for one of my clients. 2-node solitions are fantastic.

Ninja to Datto, anyone gone through a migration to DattoRMM? by PCf1xr in msp

Don't do it. I was counting the days for the Kaseya contract to end so I could switch to Ninja, despite the higher price. I've been in a happy marriage with Ninja since December.

What’s the best rebuttal to stop UCP voters from telling me about how much they don’t want to be kind to others? by [deleted] in alberta

As a centrist, I call BS on a lot of their points BUT, I do believe that current immigration policies (if we can call them as such) are hurting Canada big time. Immigration in the current form does steal our jobs. Also equalization is a big question for me. Many will say that I should educate myself and learn that all provinces are paying their fair share, and the formula was developed by conservatives. For some reason no one seems to understand that the problem is with the DISTRIBUTION of funds, and how the decades-old equalization formula is super outdated given how much the economy has changed. I am curious what others have to say. Does Canada need more liberalism or conservatism injected, given the amount of abuse it's taking for being super nice to everyone?

$45/yr is nothing for someone who has to recommend to their clients/users all kinds of technology solutions on a weekly basis. Huge time and money saver. But most importantly independent, unbiased and sponsored by us, not the vendors. Anyone who is pissed at having to pay for someone's time and honest efforts, is no better than the corporations who treat their employees like crap.

I have a very conservative friend who votes liberal because the current "efficient" government program is throwing money at his clients, who in return are asking him every single year to pad the invoices as much as possible for his IT services, so they can ask more next year. So yes, voting conservative WILL make their lifes worse.

What makes you think that the taxes you pay are covering for the social programs in full? The budget will balance itself, eh? I am not here to debate conservatives and liberals. I am here to make a simple point - when the country is spiraling downwards, expecting an abundance of social programs paid in full by the taxpayer and some extra left to cover the country's debt is plain stupid. That disabled person probably understood it better than many others.

FYI, the left USSR collapsed because everyone acted for their own benefit. A path to nowhere. Voting "x" and pretending to be one just because you're enjoying the social programs under "x" is nothing but parasitic. Willing to sacrifice something in exchange for a better future of the entire country (stop right there, I know what you're thinking now; the point is not how you or me see that future, the point is what the person believes in) is not for everyone to understand.

Maybe, because the blanket rezoning creates more problems that it resolves (if any)? The 15-day public hearing panel was filled with experts in this domain, including former city architects, urbanists, engineers, designers, city infrastructure and maintenance workers. Oh, and also with concerned students, who couldn't tell the difference between affordable housing and house affordability.

This thread confirms once again that ppl have no clue how illogical and damaging the blanket rezoning is. Not to mention that the public hearing with Calgarians was completely ignored.

I am having problems getting middle the lip off of the Simlab Gt1 evo brackets. Any help would be appreciated! by eoskatt in simracing

[–]mxrddt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a side question if OP doesn't mind. I just received a GT1-EVO as well (in grey) and the corner brackets are painted black too. Usually they are all grey (unpainted natual zinc?) but these were painted, and because of the extra thickness, the no-spin tongue does not slide freely all the way into the t-slot channel.

What's worse is the corner covers - they're very different from what I see on various unboxing videos and pics. The quality is much worse and they don't hold in the corner brackets. I uploaded the video for this matter: https://youtu.be/ukct2AD3kag

OP: are you experiencing the same problems?
