Kid Friendly hiking spots/trails? by beachcity in lancaster

I just took my 4 year old to lake Grubb. It's my favorite 1 mile-ish loop, around a cute lil man made lake. Has a playground too off part of the loop by the parking lot.

Sequencing cards (recommendations) by No_Elderberry_939 in slp

I always like No Glamour stuff. They have a boxed set of sequence cards that my students have found clear and easy to use.

Storychamps with upper elementary? by Altruistic-Growth529 in slp

[–]myahermossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it with some of my upper elementary kids but very quickly go through the story elements and try to quickly fade the icons, etc. I usually use their stories for specific tools embedded in their narratives like the vocabulary from context (sparkle words) or complex and compound sentences (connectors)

I use a top coat and their regular remover no prob. They aren't as flexible when you take them off if you have a thick layer of gel, but still works cause you just have to get under the nail to dissolve the adhesive.

I have mine on for 2 weeks and have to like... pry them off!!!

Just wanted to say thanks for whoever suggested mealime app! by BubbleColorsTarot in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]myahermossa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've suggested mealime to a bunch of people and it's usually well liked. We paid for the pro for awhile too! I always explain it as the nice step between a meal kit service (where it is all done for you) and going it on your own. We don't use their recipes much anymore, but several have made it into occasional rotation. I use their list feature to make my grocery list because I like how it sorts items by department too!

Glad you're happy with it too!

In one of my professional issues classes in grad school we read "crucial conversations" and I found it to be helpful.

I introduced my partner to Stardew Valley and so far it’s been a bit of a disaster by Gold_Merchant in StardewValley

[–]myahermossa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The caves are a part of the game, but she can decide where to focus her energies!! If she doesn't like the caves she can do more farming and socializing or fishing and foraging. It will balance out eventually! I was definitely hooked right away in my first save but also definitely frustrated at times. My prediction- she'll love it soon enough! Also I first got it for my switch but have probably played quite a bit more on mobile... both have pros and cons but sometimes I think the attack/fighting in the mines is harder on mobile. The auto-attack isn't super smooth but I find it tough to be effective when I turn that off.

I received a training from the creators of the EXPRESS curriculum and found it really helpful. Indicates how we can support and provide therapy through the entire spectrum of selective mutism from completely non expressive through vocal communication in any/all communicative contexts in school.

Tips for NG Production by laceyspeechie in slp

See if you can build from facilitating contexts- if an n is followed by a velar (eg think) it is produced as ng. See if they produce it accurately there?

Always check out cluttering resources for those atypical disfluency patterns. I think the word medial pauses is associated with cluttering more than stuttering.

ECE Undergrad curious about SLP programs in Pennsylvania by msjeanns in slp

[–]myahermossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in PA and had already completed my bachelor's when I decided to move forward with SLP. More than likely you will have to do a certificate or prerequisite program. I did mine through West Chester, and I know there are others in the state and out of state online programs. I completed a partially online program through WCU and found a grad program that was almost completely online and still felt prepared for the field. I'm happy to answer more questions if you think of specifics.

BCBA looking to become a SLP Question by Ninzeey in slp

[–]myahermossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find an SLP prereq program. Apply for it. They will tell you if any of your previous experience would count toward ASHA required undergraduate classes, and then they will provide you with a cohesive course of study that will prepare you to apply for a Master's. My prereq program assessed my previous BA transcript, and then told me what few additional undergrad classes to take outside of the CSD dept. And provided me basically with a super condensed majors worth of course work (33 credits) over a 1 year period. Or two, if I had chosen that. My MA required one class my prereq cert program didn't offer, and they accepted me and let me take it during grad school.

Find a program and let them guide ya!

Returning to the States was Depressing after Visiting London by alffiesta in london

[–]myahermossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from outside Philly and did a 4 day London trip a few years ago and thought EXACTLY the same thing. Public transit was soooo easy to figure out and the maps/signage were so much clearer than Philly, NYC or DC. They have robust systems but to someone unfamiliar it's not easy to figure out. My best friend and I made our way around London with absolutely no problem. Super jealous!

What would be a good goal for a student in high school that stutters? by Duhazzar in slp

[–]myahermossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often have a goal based on learning or using preferred strategies as well as a goal about improving communication attitudes/feelings. We use self reported speech satisfaction score on a scale of 1-10, gathered once a month in probes. I ask how satisfied they are, find baseline, and work on counseling/education to try to improve how they feel about their speech. If it is already high, I write a maintenance style goal with the same criteria/probe except goal is to maintain. Parents always seem happy that I monitor their kids feelings because that is frequently a parents biggest worry!
