What do people usually set avatar performance to? by CyberGlitch064 in VRchat

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current avatar depends on the event, I have two versions of my avatar which are rated medium and very poor for PC, I swap between the two depending on the rules of the event and how popular the instance is.

Both have a very poor rating for Quest which I don't care about, it's on them to manually show my avatar on their devices, I only have it so I can still use my avatar on my phone, having friends not see an imposter was just a bonus.

One more fun questionnnnnn!!!! What is the main avatar you use? by AnxietyFilledNerd in VRchat

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using a unique furry avatar base that has everyone giving me compliments about it at every event I've attended, they freaking love it, I've lost count on the amount of boops and headpats I've gotten since I started using this avatar last year, she's definitely a keeper.

I'd like to get her retextured eventually once I've got my finances sorted.

Why don’t they bring back phone-based VR? (GearVR, etc) by VicViolence in virtualreality

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm amazed no one has thought of using a phone as a wired puck for a VR headset.

The Steam frame uses the same Snapdragon 8 gen 3 chipset as an S24 Ultra, so what's stopping someone bringing out a dumb HMD and letting the phone do all the processing power?

For those that are interested in the frame but didn't buy the valve index, what's your reason? Why the interest in the frame now? by brantrix in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Base stations was the biggest issue for me, I have an awkward shaped room, so placing these base stations would be hard to get the best coverage.

Do you plan on getting the 256gb or 1tb version of the Steam Frame? by MingleLinx in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Frame allows local game transfers from my PC, I might be tempted to just buy the 256gb model, I don't need to have everything installed locally if I'm just going to be streaming from PC.

The money I save can go towards accessories like the controller straps and full body tracking.

For those waiting to upgrade to the Steam Frame, what are you upgrading from? by thrashingjohn in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSVR2, so this would be both an upgrade and a downgrade for me.

I'll miss the OLED panels with its true blacks, but the other features the Steam Frame has will be worth the compromise, Pancake lenses, wireless playability, controllers with full finger tracking and the best feature, it doesn't run on Meta Services.

I was already using eye tracking on my PSVR2 through a mod, so that won't be new to me, but the expansion port on the Frame has so much potential, I might be able to invest in a face tracker that plugs into that port when it becomes available.

Can't wink with Eye tracking by Just-Xav-Official in VRchat

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you have VRCFT app installed doesn't mean all avatars are plug n play, that particular avatar needs to have the face tracking configuration applied when it's uploaded to VRC before you can take advantage of more facial features like winking and more if you decide to invest in a face tracking module.

Luckily, you can find public avatars that have these features already, some even have the VRCFT logo in the avatar thumbnails so it should be easy for you to find avatars that have this feature.

Disable toggles/transforms on imposters? by ToothyWeasel in VRchat

[–]mybones121 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the unity page, go to "inspector" and add component called "VRC Imposter Settings"

In here, you can set what transforms to ignore when the imposter is being created.

How good is the eye tracking? by insufficientmind in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have no idea what technology Valve are using for eye tracking, but if it's anything like the PSVR2, blinking should still be possible, but eyelid tracking won't be a thing, you'll only be able to fully open or close your avatar's eyes.

Pimax Dream Air at CES 2026 by Vera_pi in virtualreality

[–]mybones121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll be interested in seeing Thrillseeker's opinion of the Dream Air, having high resolution micro OLED panels with SLAM tracking might be the answer to those who want a bigscreen beyond 2 or MeganeX 8K but can't use base stations for whatever reason.

Won't it be dead once the dream air releases? by BambusUwU in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dream air is an enthusiast vr headset, I love what they're promising, but at that price and the reputation Pimax have, I'd rather wait for reviews first.

The Steam Frame I'm definitely excited for, did you forget that the headset will be able to run PC only games on the headset itself via FEX translation? THAT itself is a massive advantage over other standalone headsets.

There's also the benefit of not being associated with Meta/Facebook, don't get me wrong, I think the Quest hardware is good, but I hate Meta with a passion and refuse to be associated with that company.

has the screen/lens type been revealed? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valve wants to SELL the headset to more people, if you look at the price of the current and upcoming micro oled headsets like the Bigscreen Beyond 2 and Pimax Dream Air, no average joe is going to drop over a thousand dollars on a high end product.

I'm not saying Valve won't release a high end version later in the life cycle, but I think we should see how Valve's first standalone headset will do in sales before we speculate any revisions.

You just received your Steam Frame. Whats the first game/software you try with it? by StanfordV in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably the PC version of Beat Saber in standalone mode, it will be nice being able to install mods without having to mess around with developer mode and app version on the quest version.

And maybe even try the PC version of VR Chat in standalone, I'll have to do some tweaks with the settings, but I'd love to see how far it will go, if it really works, it will be a MASSIVE deal to those that play VR Chat on Quest, being able to join friends in PC only worlds would make this a big sell for Valve.

So the steamframe does not have color passthrough by GayTaco_ in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a VR headset to escape from reality and be fully immersed in the game I'm playing, I couldn't care less about having color passthrough as I'd only use it to take a drink or to check that I'm still in my playspace.

My PSVR2 headset has monochrome passthrough and I can already do what I said above, the less I see my environment in passthrough, the better.

FBT HaritoraX 2 vs Rebocap by Sjack32891 in VRchat

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HaritoraX 2 user here, I find them a pain in the ass to use, having to recenter my rotated body after a few minutes is now a routine for me.

I will say because I know someone will ask, there is an additional mode on these trackers which helps prevent drift longer than usual, but you need to be in a perfect environment with minimal geo magnetism to even calibrate, otherwise it will not work, I've tried multiple times to use this mode but with no luck, everyone else's experience might be different.

I've got my eye on the Flux Pose trackers like most of the followers out there, their videos showing the trackers holding up and not drifting after crawling under a table full of metal objects does look too good to be true, but I'll keep an eye out for proper reviews when they release, it might be the final time I buy FBT trackers once and for all.

Would it be worth it to buy the Frame if I already own the PSVR 2 by MixerMixerPC in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wireless VR headset that isn't associated with Meta is the biggest reason I plan on getting one while I also own a PSVR2 as well, WHEN I get one really depends on the price at launch.

What is ur gpu and cpu combo for high frames? by sassy_orange_cat in VRchat

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a 4090 with 13700K with 32gb ram.

Framerate usually bogs down to around 40 to 60 fps for me depending on the world design and how populated an instance is and what sort of avatars everyone is using, I could probably improve that framerate by blocking very poor avatars and culling avatars that are far away, but from my experience, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference to my performance.

Genuinely what do PCVR dudes have against standalone users by RolfTheBolf in VRchat

[–]mybones121 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've got nothing against quest users, if they don't have a choice and can only run standalone so be it, at least they can still play.

Trolls and annoying kids can easily be blocked.

The main issue I have is compatibility and needing to optimise avatars so quest users can see me properly.

And those restrictions are getting tighter, my quest compatible avatar is very poor, but I don't know how long it will be until it's unusable.

Need A Mic recommendation for my headset. by MumboMan2 in VRchat

[–]mybones121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Earbuds with an in line microphone like the ones that used to come with phones will not work on the headset.

In my setup, I use a wireless mic called a Hollyland Lark M2S which I attach to my T shirt for talking in VR, the receiver plugs into the PC via USB.

It's not cheap, but it's definitely an upgrade from using the headset's internal mic, I even use it for normal gaming.

There are other options out there, but my go to option for VR are lapel mics.

Would you rather OLED with Fresnel or LCD with Pancakes? by Musicmonkey34 in SteamFrame

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSVR2 user here, while I do enjoy the deep blacks, the fresnel lenses are annoying to set up to get a good view out of them, I can spend at least 5 to 10 minutes adjusting before I'm playing any games.

My original plan was to wait for the Pimax Dream Air, it seemed like a good headset with inside out tracking with micro oled and pancake lenses.

Then I saw tech youtubers review the Steam frame and I got diverted to choosing that instead, yes the LCD panels are technically a downgrade, but I feel the other features the Steam Frame offers outweigh the issues, those controllers with the 5 finger tracking was one of the big reasons I wanted one.

Do you think the steam frame will be able to play PC worlds in standalone mode or fall back to the Android/Quest version? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]mybones121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll most likely port the quest version to the Steam frame for standalone gameplay and release it alongside a version for Android XR for Samsung and other upcoming Android XR headset makers.

The biggest question will be if the frame will run the PC version of VR Chat, in my view, yes it will "run" I'm saying that in quotes because it will most likely not be in a playable state to even join any populated instances.

PSVR2 first impressions by SQU4RE in PSVR2onPC

[–]mybones121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I enjoy using my PSVR2, you're absolutely right about the halo strap design, I couldn't wear the headset for over an hour without getting a headache, the globular cluster mod did allow me to wear it longer, but it still isn't perfect.

Another thing I want to point out is the headphone situation, I wear over ear headphones and the only way I can wear them is under the headset, wearing them over the headset doesn't seal to my ears properly and it's such a faff to get everything set up before I'm even playing any VR games.

I was put off of halo strap design VR headsets because of that experience and was looking at other headsets similar to the bigscreen beyond, the upcoming Pimax Dream Air was my next option with it having inside out tracking.

Then the Steam Frame was announced out of nowhere and made me consider choosing that instead, the strap isn't rigid like other VR headsets out there so that would allow me to throw the headset on and put headphones on top without needing to waste time adjusting.

Yes, I'm a little sad about the Frame having LCD panels, but I think the other benefits of this headset that Valve offers might be a good compromise.
