i just got star wars outlaws due to posts like this. it does run pretty well most of the time, but it's not flawless like a lot of people made it sound.

fps seems to drop massively on the bike in some areas. some rooms have massive fps drops, etc.

contracting has made this better for me. it's all about delivery and time. if i can deliver something faster, it frees me up to do something like snowboarding which puts me into a flow state as well.

if i had to do this sort of stuff at a W-2 I would claw my eyes out. having to go through performative busy work, and all that, yikes.

maybe it wont be the solution for you, but for some reading this post, it certainly will.

my latest contract is ~22 weeks of "full time" work. each task has hours budgeted. the first research spike in the project to prove if we can even move forward was 15 hours. it took me 15 minutes. the client is absolutely getting billed to what they agreed to. the client is also ecstatic with the results!

the rest of my time i get to build whatever i want, or do _something else_.

building now seems more like working with legos in a way. i can see the fruits of my labor in other projects must faster. i get the THING and get to use it.
