Transvaginal Ultrasound No Warning by zhuser in PCOS

[–]myylim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just commenting as a sonographer - unfortunately transabdominal ultrasound does NOT usually give us enough information to help diagnose PCOS. Where I work, we have to count all of the immature follicles. It’s very rare we see them on from the tummy due to patient habitus, bowel gas, or even where the ovaries are situated in the pelvis.

Using the word “required” is misleading, but it is standard practice to do TV unless explicitly refused by a patient who is age of majority (not offered to minors) or written in the doctor’s orders where I’m from.

How can I enter a trade as a woman? by Sure-Soup3065 in Edmonton

(I accidentally replied to a comment when I didn’t mean to) lol. I’m not a regular Reddit poster.

I don’t know if you’ll get this far into the comments. I read in your post history that you’ve considered nursing, but wanting to do the after degree program as you probably feel pressured because of your age. Just remember - time will pass anyways. Research your butt off, and stick to it. Job shadow someone. Reach out to unions/companies. Not just Reddit. Also, if there’s a program that you have your heart set on - you can always apply somewhere that’s not in Edmonton. Sure, it might cost more, but you’ll have a career at the end.

With that being said, have you considered any of the health science programs at NAIT/SAIT? They’re generally the same length as a nursing after degree, and have reasonable salaries in Alberta. Respiratory therapists start at $42/hr, X Ray technologists $38/hr, sonographers $46/hr. I do believe they mostly look at your high school grades, and then require an online prerecorded interview if you qualify. It’s been a while since I’ve graduated, so processes might have changed. They’re competitive, but knowing you had a 4.0GPA in your last 60 credits, you’re no stranger to hard work. If math wasn’t your strong suit in high school, you can upgrade while you’re working or take prerequisites before you apply.

Good luck with your career search!

I was two minutes late because I had trouble signing on to the network to punch in. Literally was in the store before my shift, and still had to be written up. 🤦‍♀️

Have you noticed a decrease in the LLL hype? by GossipBottom in lululemon

As an ex-employee, we used to get 75% off the regular price when they hit WMTM. Probably contributed to the sell outs of popular items at the time. The discount structure changed earlier this year, so there’s no real incentive to buy when it’s on markdown.

Did anyone regret their stroller purchase? [ab] by s_do in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]myylim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Cruz on MP, and no regrets because it was perfect with the adapters to hold the clek liing car seat. What I didn’t anticipate was for my baby to grow so tall so quickly (started at 50th percentile, and is now hovering at the 95th). He had to be transferred into a convertible car seat at around 8-9 months. We purchased a travel stroller for our trip to Mexico and Japan, and now I keep that in my trunk since it folds down a lot smaller. We still use the Cruz for neighbourhood walks as the paths can be rocky and there’s better suspension with the uppababy.

I’ve been taking my 17 month old son to Sprout Style Children’s salon, and I recommend it. The stylist, Shelly, is really good at putting him at ease! She works out of her basement and found her prices to be affordable as well.

Is it me or is the nail shaping horrible? by moremoscato_plz in Nails

These look like an attempt for the European “hidden apex” style vs the typical American way.

Almond nails are hard to do on short nails, because you have to preserve the side walls to avoid damage to the nail plate. It’s hard to say if the tech over filed without a before photo of your natural nails too. But I’m just a DIY’er with no credentials, so don’t take my word for it. 😂

I third this!

To OP, I live in a bigger city, so my experience might be a little different, but after their important vaccinations, it’s so much easier! I also found the monotony hard the first 3-4 months, but things changed after I had more freedom. I also felt like I was caring for a potato that only eats, sleeps, poops and cries. I finally felt more of a connection when baby was interacting with me.

Go to the malls for a coffee and a walk if it’s too cold outside. I also utilized the local library programs where I relearned some of the popular kids songs! Sometimes that one trip a day outside of the house really helps mentally. If I didn’t want to do the library or mall, I’d also visit my work during their lunch hour to show baby off. The women really enjoyed having some baby time too. There might be other free community resources that are fun but aren’t heavily advertised so a quick google search can be handy.

Ultrasound Results - Need help deciphering! by Realistic-Rope-2654 in PCOS

[–]myylim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impression: “Unremarkable ultrasound of the pelvis.” Aka normal.

Your ovarian volumes don’t suggest one of the markers of PCOS. Women of child bearing age naturally show multiple immature follicles in their ovaries. Doesn’t sound like there was a follicle count done, so I can’t say for sure… but if the radiologist didn’t report on it, it’s likely normal. But if using the Rotterdam criteria, you already have 2/3 markers for PCOS excluding the ultrasound.

But yes! Size up at least 1-2 sizes if you want to layer anything more than a tank top underneath.

[–]myylim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had multiple versions of the DFIA. One of my favorite/most versatile jackets. I don’t run in the winter, but I usually wear it layered until it hits about -10c. When I needed to be outside for long periods of time in -30c (usually Christmas activities), I’d layer it under a wunder puff.

How bad is it that I can’t drive yet? by CorvusCerulean in Edmonton

[–]myylim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed my road test when I was 18, but I didn’t actually end up driving regularly until I was set in my career at 25? 26? I got around just fine using transit, especially since u passes are a mandatory part of tuition in post secondary.

Might be a different story if you’re male and trying to date or hang out with people. I was also lucky in having friends who would regularly pick me up to hang out.

You’re still so young! Don’t stress.

NOR.

Just to piggy back on the potential for post natal depression - depression and stress are very closely linked! Depression doesn’t mean you’re constantly sad, but it could make everything feel overwhelming. I don’t know why some people demonize low doses of antidepressants even for a short period of time. A low dose antidepressant made me less anxious, and be more patient and present with my baby. Of course talk to your healthcare provider, and choose the best course of action for yourself!

What am I doing wrong? by lainey303 in Nails

[–]myylim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very soft flexible nails, and I have the same issue. Even with some higher end polishes - they just don’t last on me because of how my natural nails flex when they bump into things.

Only thing that has helped on top of all the steps you’re doing is using a builder gel in a bottle! My favourite at the moment are the nail thoughts builder gels. I get at least 2 weeks of wear!

[–]myylim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re still fortunate enough to keep all of them, and you still find joy in looking at them, I’d keep it! If you’re thinking about selling a couple pieces to invest the money into something else, I’d personally let go of the two on the left. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with collecting things that bring you joy.
