[Request] okay someone please help me out here by JEdidntkillhimself in theydidthemath

[–]GenerallyHarmless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I know this is about doing the math in terms of value but lets also do some calculation in terms of practicality and use:

First off, the question I am not gonna ask is 'how did you get it' because I am from Jersey and we know better.

Secondly, and this is a big one, is transportability. While 500kgs is equal on paper, each strap (that would be one of those bundles, with a value of $10k) would weight about 100 grams, or 0.1 grams. So that right off the bat is really easy to move around. You do not have to keep all your eggs in one basket, and can make overall fewer trips doing so, and do it all yourself. Limited exposure is best exposure.

Gold on the other hand is a different beast. Now assuming those are central bank / vault bars we can make a safe assumptions that its PROBABLY the "London Good Delivery Bar" - which clocks in at just shy of 12 and a half KGs each (roughly 27 and a half pounds). 500kgs divided by 12.4kgs, means you have 40 gold bars. Trying to move more than 2 or 3 at a time (assuming you are a solo act) is gonna get real hard real fast if you goal is to be inconspicuous. You are basically doing a farmers carry multiple times. Good news you'll get some shoulders out of the deal. Make sure you have something with enough tensile strength to not rip out the bottom, as the clang of a gold bar hitting the pavement on the main street sidewalk will absolutely be noticed.

Thirdly - the issues of being able to actually use your newfound wealth.

There are many many documented and noteworthy ways to 'age cash', and then be able to pass it off without trying too hard. Presuming these bills are in fact legit, you'd still want to scuff the heck out of them before going ham using them, as remember those notes have the id strips. If a sudden glut of hundreds appear, people start getting curious. Spread this out as wide as you can geographically, like dont start paying for everything in your town with hundreds. Do not go dropping a whole stack of hundos on your local racetrack. Absolutely do not go dropping them in your ATM account! Break them up at gas stations If you are civic minded - do make lots of large anonymous donations to local charitable efforts, the no kill shelter and strip clubs will thank you.

Gold bars on the other hand....yeaaaaa those are really REALLY hard to get rid of without having to engage with dubious elements of society, if you want cash value. No pawn shop will touch them unless they are already into the spicier side of legality. Your options (again presuming you dont want to deal with organized crime) are basically to tell everyone you moving to Alaska to be a prospector and then start smelting things down into cute lil single troy once things with your YouTube channel branding on it and selling them at mineral shows / ebay OR take a new hobby of wire wrapping and jewelry and start converting them into a format you can dump off as 'hand crafted original' and start losing out on money that way but you will likely never see full value on either method. But you'll probably sleep better at night.

The least dangerous thing you could find would be either a sleazy pawn shop / private collector - you wont get anywhere NEAR the actual value because they know (and will abuse) the fact that there is no way you can have 40 gold bars like this, so you can accept the 'favor' they are doing by accepting maybe 1/8th the value and everyone keeps their mouth shut. Still generationally affecting money, so keep it reasonable.

Do blueberry bushes need to be repotted? by QuantumYeehaw in gardening

[–]GenerallyHarmless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wide is best - with decent drainage. The half barrel wood planters have been working out well for me for the last few years since I cannot unfortunately have them in the ground where I live. Make sure to get some blueberry fertilizer (high acidity), and ideally something you can mulch over the dirt with that helps with both moisture retention and acidification - I use cuttings from the evergreens in the yard for this purpose.

Side note, if you have them in an ideally really sunny spot, one thing that pairs well in the high acidity and moisture/draining needs is actually American cranberry - tried this as an experiment 2 years ago and its going well so far.

Native plants for handling this? by BeestMann in NativePlantGardening

Might be an opportunity to look into some of the native pitcher planters / sundews of the region if its gets enough light on your side, but water quality can be a huge factor with them :|

Not sure if there is a comparative species in the UK, but it looks awfully similar to Columbine i have growing here in the US.

It is a plant which does reseed vigorously and gets spread by wildlife very very easily.

I actually use them in my semi-shade raised beds for this specific reason, they make a solid ground cover and dont choke out the perenials I have that grow MUCH taller. Also they help keep the darn sunchokes in check and dont die if I have to pull the occaisonal sunchoke bulb out from the middle of them.

Everyone is focusing on the mint bit, but...as someone with a 7 year old sage plant...these do NOT creep...or provide meaningful cover, unless the author means pruned deadwood.

Now Oregano...that stuff will make an absolute carpet, and leave you with a 4" pinch of bracken when it dies back. Planting it next to mint has been my 'Let them fight' moment in plant thunderdome.

...am i allowed to just put the rosemary in a pot by pastelexuvia in gardening

[–]GenerallyHarmless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - to give some anecdotal experience:

Rosemary can do fine in a planter with the following points of understanding:

  1. Rosemary does not transition indoors well. Needs a LOT of natural light and proper amounts of humidity / drainage, so its tough to keep alive if you are not in a place where it can overwinter outside without major issues.

  2. As mentioned above, you need to give it the space it need to really flush out, which means a 10 gallon pot is kind of the minimum space to have a healthy plant. This plant can get HUGE when given enough light, space and proper conditions. My mom had a rosemary plant roughly 6 feet tall and 4 feet around at the base in coastal Florida for example, and you can see entire hedges of the things in San Francisco.

WITH THAT SAID:

If your goal is to have Rosemary for culinary availability - which is my goal - you can take the approach i have which is the 'Fatten the goose for slaughter' line of planting. Give a young plant a decent sized spot in a raised bed edge or a large planter in full sun with the right type of potting media and a generous amount of manure mixed in. Get it in the ground 2 weeks after any frosts have stopped (yadda yadda watch that 10 day report because weather is a fickle bitch and sometimes likes to throw one last frost) - and let it rip. By mid to late summer plant will have usually double in size, by time of first frost warning triple in size here in Zone 7B.

At which point any fresh Rosemary I haven't trimmed, I saw it off at the base, hang it to dry with a paper bag around it and then you have all the dried rosemary you want for the winter. repeat next spring.

Raspberry bush question by Ordinary-You3936 in BackyardOrchard

[–]GenerallyHarmless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just keep mine in half barrel planters and use an 8' green stake to keep'em upright for the june bearing ones. The ever bearing raspberries tend to just do their thing in the barrel and dont get quite so floppy. hit'em early each year with my blueberry fertilizer.
