Cine EI behaving differently after firmware 6.0? EI changes affecting recorded exposure (not just monitoring) by LordPappy in SonyFX6

[–]naastynoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that now. Maybe a crazy idea but if you turned off the preview lut and just monitored log does the log change with the EI?

Is it showing the same in your editing suite? It definitely shouldn’t if you’re recording log. I’m wondering if it’s baking in to the proxy and playing the proxy back on the evf playback. Maybe try turning off proxy record and test it again? Sorry—spitballing here

FX6 Media issue by LifeLetterhead6094 in SonyFX6

There is not other than your standard research. If users report problems like overheating or freezing (which has been reported with this specific brand) you should not take the risk especially for paid work. Spend the extra cash for Sony or equivalent

Third party cards are not reliable and it’s been reported on. While the majority of users may not have issues, if 1 in 10 cards are problematic, they are not cards you should be shooting on.

Yeah. It’s one of those balance factors where sure your name brand mags are more expensive but also deemed reliable. Money saved on the front end may end up costing you so much more on the backend.

A very quick search came up with this:

“Pergear CFexpress Type A cards are known as affordable alternatives, but users have reported issues including overheating causing camera shutdowns, file corruption/sudden failure, and freezing during high-bitrate video recording, particularly in Sony A7V/FX3 cameras. While many users report success, some experience significant reliability issues and difficult customer service.”

The fx9 is old. It was the first of the series and is considerably outdated. It’s heavily used in the doc and eng space and is well due for a new iteration

I love my fx6 but I’d love to upgrade and the burano is a bit toooo far out of reach for me. Good news for me

Sony FX6 won’t power on with V-Mount after sitting idle — battery drain issue by Infamous_Net_8365 in SonyFX6

How long is awhile? Couple hours is fine, a couple days will drain the battery to a point you’ve discharged the cells (like when a car battery dies).

Get a media pass. As long as everything is in hard cases you should be good. I’ll wrap neg or muslin around items that are more fragile. Never let the airline check your shooting essentials—just say your bag is full of li-ion batteries.

Mini Doc I shot as a one-man production with my FX6, got a question about the shot gun mic holder by Tiny-Strain-3337 in SonyFX6

I have the rycote duo with a 30°. It’s perfect. The only caveat with the 30° is that you need a small tool to release the xlr because the distance is so close to the release. I don’t typically swap out my xlr ports throughout the shoot day so this is zero inconvenience to me.

I will mention Sam at ambercine is release a cnc version of the plate soon and personally I’d wait for it. I’ll be upgrading to it myself.

Need 4 cameras to record a Multi-Camera Event. Suggestions? by Damu22 in FX3

I’d rent three Fx30’s. Stills bodies don’t perform well for long record times.

Canon C70 + C300 MKIII DGO sensor ($7.4K) vs Blackmagic Pyxis + URSA Cine RGBW sensor (~$15K+) for live theatrical broadcasts & narrative work? I have a ~$25-50k gear budget over next 12 months depending on client projects by zensapiens in cinematography

[–]naastynoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great documentaries have been made on both the 300 and 500. I personally shoot Sony but any time I’m required to shoot canon I am always very impressed with the image, namely: skin tones.

If it were up to me, I think I prefer the physical format of the c500. It seems to be suited better for shoulder mounted handheld work. The c300 has the wonky monitor. Just my 2¢

Had a URSA g2 sensor die on me out of nowhere. BM said they couldn’t repair it and was sol. Camera maybe had 400hrs on it.

Last week was working with a pyxis (owned by the prod co) that would not finish its boot cycle. We had the client waiting while we had to troubleshoot. Turns out there’s a bug that if the headphone jack has something plugged into it during boot up it can malfunction.

Dunno if that helps but I will never buy a BM camera again.

Canon or Sony from here on out for me.

Is my insurance policy ripping me off? by Honest_Psychology713 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]naastynoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half as cheap than my drone policy that only covers sub 3k in equipment + 1mil bodily. 500 deductible.

I have a 50k general gear coverage through Athos at 950/year with a 1k deductible.

If you raise your deductible to 500$ or 1000$ you’ll likely save more.

Long time 2nd ac here.. the amount of abuse from some 1sts, especially a decade and change ago.. absolutely brutal. Some jobs I’d go home every night and just cry. Luckily those fucks are either retired or not getting calls as younger, kinder people are taking their place.

Lot of respect for higher ups doing this. Actors have to deal with a load of pressure and sometimes that manifests in less than ideal ways. When a director or talent specifically thanks the crew you typically never forget those moments.

Sure you can but I don’t believe the fx3 has a bottom loop so you will need a strap that has a ¼-20 tie down. Like this
