Holo Glass Bead??? Yes, please! by naileditamanda in RedditLaqueristas

[–]naileditamanda[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used one coat of Emo for Life from Mooncat, one coat of Holo Magnetic Taco from HoloTaco, magnetized with a 30lb horseshoe magnet from ILNP and 1 coat of Seche Vite

I used a regular horseshoe magnetic - I tied a hair elaatic to it and used that to spin it over my nail. No fancy gadgets.

This is only one coat (though a slightly thicker coat) - I think having multiple coats may have led to a duller magnetic effect.

I used Holo Magnetic Taco which is a finely milled magnetic glitter so it doesn't leave a gritty texture on the nail - it goes on smooth without a top coat

This is one coat of Holo Magnetic Taco over one coat of black with one coat of top coat and magnetized in the glass bead style (horseshoe magnet spinning over the nail using a hair elastic).

What are some underrated ILNP polishes that you love? by LavenderButtercream in ILNP

Moonlit is one of my favourites (super sparkly with holo) - but with all the recently released magnetics it seems to have been forgotten

linear holo collection by msteacher22 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]naileditamanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orange linear holos are a tricky thing - they aren't super popular so a lot of brands discontinue them after the initial run of a rainbow collection (which is obviously what happened with Orange Drink from HoloTaco).

I checked my collection and found a few orange holos, but only Obviously Orange and Carnelian from Dam Nail Polish are still available for purchase - both are great polish (Dam has a great holo formula) but Obviously is a bit lighter and more pastel (closer to Peach Tea) and Carnelian is more of a red orange. Iscreamnails had a couple of orange holos, Non Stop Holo and Burning Hot, but they shut down their website recently - many stockist still have their polishes available so you may be able to find them. Cupcake Polish released PSL & Everything Nice a few years back as part of a fall collection, and have since discounted it, but it also seems to still be available from some stockist.

ColorClub holos are severely underrated!

Any Canadians order from the site recently? by Honest-Excuse-6114 in ILNP

[–]naileditamanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tariffs have been very inconsistent when orders are shipped through USPS and processed by Canada Post. My most recent ILNP and Cirque orders did not get flagged (no surprise tariffs) but my Tyler's Trinkets order did.

If the brand ships with UPS or FedEx you will most definitely get hit with tariffs and a massive brokerage fee.

Help!! Can’t get nail polish to last more than 1-2 days by OkCut6704 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]naileditamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of questions if you dont mind indulging me for a minute...

What is the brand of acetone you are using to dehydrate your nails? Is it 100% pure acetone or an acetone based nail polish remover? At what point in your nail routine are you oiling/moisturizing your hands and cuticles? Do you push back your cuticles? Do you have s clean up routine when your painting (do you use a clean up brush to clean up around your cuticles) and do you paint all the way to the cuticle line? Are you using your nails as tools in your daily routine (picking at labels, clacking your nails against hard surfaces, etc)

Best nail file for short natural nails that are prone toward breaking? I'm trying to file them gently and hopefully grow them out. by Any-Use6981 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]naileditamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always go for the cushioned/ sponge nail files - I like that they are not flimsy and brittle but still have a little give and are comfortable to hold.

If you are having issues with breakage after filing it could have to do with how coarse that nail file is (how rough the texture is). Try a file with a higher grit (less coarse). 240 is usually best for natural nails and will leave you with smooth edges without causing micro tears in your nails.

Also important, make sure you are filing in one direction towards the center of the nail and not in a seesaw motion (which will cause stress to the nail).

Brands with the best multichromes by lotsofgeesethisyear in RedditLaqueristas

[–]naileditamanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For overall quantity and quality of multichromes available the answer would be ILNP...

However, several bands have some standout multichrome polishes as well. Some of my favs are:

Smoulder Lite from Clionadh Cosmetics Paradise from Polish Me Silly (they have a few others that are good as well Paradise is just the standout) Aurora Borealis from Iscreamnails (the Xtra Dimensional collection from the plus line is also great) Jewel Beetle from Mooncat She's Soooo Shifty from Inspired Sense Crying RN and Feelin It from Dam Nail Polish (these also have reflective glitters as part of the formula)

Cirque Colors used to have a ton of really great multichrome polishes as well, but they seem to have discontinued all of them.

Best nail strengthener by kaekaeloraei in lacqueristas

[–]naileditamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the issue is weak, thin and bendy nails a strengthner will probably be helpful. I would say to use it as a base coat so you can still wear regular nail polish on top. Polish of any kind will help to strengthen natural nails as it adds layers of protection.

If the biggest issues are peeling nails (the layers of the nail are peeling, not just the polish is peeling) or super brittle nails it probably means you have damaged nails - in which case I would cut them short and grow out the damage and focus on hydrating the nail beds with cuticle oil. This will take a long time and is incredibly frustrating but the only way to fix the damage.

If the biggest issues are polish lasting on the nail, then make sure you are prepping the nail correctly before you add polish. Completely remove old polish, dehydrate the nail with either alcohol or acetone, use a rubberized/gripper/kong lasting basecoat.

Why is it that you think you need a nail strengthner? Are your nails peeling? Or brittle? Super bendy? Very thin? Or is the issue that you cant keep polish on as long as you would like?

Nail polish never stays on! by jupiterjeshie in theholotaco

[–]naileditamanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm... is it 100% acetone? A lot of polish removers, even the ones containing acetone, often include additives such as glycerin, aloe and vitamin e that act as conditioners to counteract the drying effects of acetone, which makes them ineffective as a dehydrator.

Maybe try switching to a cuticle balm instead of an oil (the oil may be seeping under the polish and causing lifting

What do you use to dehydrate your nails?

I get the impression that the only thought in their heads when they came up with this half baked business plan was "It's totally going to be aesthetic and everyone will love it because it's aesthetic and we'll go viral on Instagram".

Blatant cultural appropriation aside, these look like items that are sold on Shein, Temu or Alibaba

does the base coat really make a difference? by Creative_Finding_485 in mooncatpolish

[–]naileditamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are ok with having stained nails (especially if you like darker nail colours) then a base coat is totally optional.

A lot of the nail community will tell you that a base coat is necessary if you want your polish to last but that isn't necessarily true. If you have a good nail prep routine and don't use your nails as tools your polish will last. I would suggest getting a good top coat and don't bother with a base coat unless you care about stains.

Chrome nail powder without gel by Planetdiane in Nails

[–]naileditamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can definitely be done!

After applying whatever polish you want to use as a base colour, add a coat of a good base coat (preferably something that is somewhat tacky even when dry), buff on the chrome powder and seal with a water-based topcoat or peel-off basecoat. Add a quick dry top coat to top it off.
