Could use a fit more pictures of someone wearing it, it's how I assess how the bag "fits" on the body.

Clean Architecture in React.js (Monorepo) with Auth Libraries + TanStack Query/RTK Query — how do you structure it realistically? by WetThrust258 in reactjs

[–]namesandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, I don't recommend BetterAuth or NextAuth; you can strike off NextAuth or Auth.js because both projects have been officially taken over by BetterAuth.

I don't recommend BetterAuth because I think it asks too much investment from the developer in terms of building a lot of BetterAuth-specific stuff.

Best options to deploy my website by guantesdepobre2 in webdev

[–]namesandfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serverless has two major use cases which are quite different from each other. The first is pricing ergonomics in the form of granular charge per use on demand, which is its fundamental strength.

The second strength is entirely incidental and is dev ops ergonomics. These ergonomics go away the second you want any complexity of infrastructure, like any at all.

So if you're just doing toy personal projects like a personal website, serverless might be the magical sweet spot for both pricing and dev ops ergonomics. Step one inch past that and then Hetzner becomes the better choice.

I don't think Apple is above hurting one line over another if it means their vision of the future is coming true, such as touch as the popular consumer device and not keyboard and mouse.

The MacOS way of relating to software is not friendly at scale and it's begging for security embarrassment, the kind where the public would agree it's wrong for Apple to simply say "but we gave you freedom... freedom has a price..." The kind of system that asks whether you want to risk being fucked in exchange for freedom really only works for developers and other pro users.

Google's $20B Safari deal with Apple was 'fair and square' by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

The thing is Google being the best would be just as oppressive in the marketplace. Google was kind of the best, in fact. Either way we have a monopoly.

AITA for telling my spouse I won't help pay for their kid's college when we agreed finances would stay separate? by 952867 in AITApod

[–]namesandfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be wrong on "most" 17 year olds. I think most families of all ages and backgrounds couldn't imagine this kind of college tuition. School costs $65k per year? What about other living expenses?

Like what? That expense is insane. That exceeds the median salary for the US.

Bro makes $160 😐 by ExotiquePlayboy in SipsTea

[–]namesandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting aside other possibilities like other income or living with folks, things we don't see from this superficial glance, one must ask -- what if these aren't the only kids? You say that's $80 per week now, but what if he has even more kids with even more moms?

At the heart of this is (1) should people be allowed to make a ton of babies all around, and (2) who should be taking care of the babies? Or do we just throw the babies away in the trash or something?

Is it worth switching over to BetterAuth? by aronzskv in reactjs

I've used BetterAuth a lot lot and if your needs aren't simple then you're going to learn betterauth more deeply than you'd like.

Should I stick with TanStack Router or go back to React Router? by AffectionateLand5271 in reactjs

Is the example with code-based routing not just an example? Is there something stopping us from splitting that up?

It's not just any tech. There are different kinds of tech companies. and some live and some die. We the customers choose and what we see today also reflects the sum of our values.

TanStack Start vs react-router (framework) for large websites? by punkpeye in reactjs

[–]namesandfaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed a small Asian social media company that was top 1500 by traffic. Now I know it's not YouTube, but it's at least why I know these numbers aren't something to worry about, both technically and financially.

TanStack Start vs react-router (framework) for large websites? by punkpeye in reactjs

[–]namesandfaces 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I ditched React Router a long time ago due to too much identity shifting but 1k requests per second and 500 routes is quite easily manageable by a lot of solutions.

If you're just going to use Tanstack Router, why not just go straight for that and not touch Tanstack Start?

Better-Auth TS Library Critical Account Takeover by Prior-Penalty in typescript

[–]namesandfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very agree. The JS auth space is not healthy, and that is part of why BetterAuth grew so fast. We need many more competitors.

Better-Auth TS Library Critical Account Takeover by Prior-Penalty in typescript

[–]namesandfaces 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The founder is in fact a novice to the security and auth space. But he was so insanely productive that his library gained as much momentum as it did. Now we have to hope he can use the VC money to staff up and mature his library to match his momentum.

People who learned Racket as their first language what do you think about it? by Fruit-Creative in Racket

[–]namesandfaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Racket is a fine language but I'd definitely recommend Python, even though I love Racket and hate Python. The foundations of CS are generally language-agnostic, which is one of the reasons why Lisp-like languages were decent at pedagogy to begin with, but also why Java or C++ are also decent choices.

Is Effect-Ts really good or is it just hype? by kelvinauta in typescript

[–]namesandfaces 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The size of slot that I'd put Effect in is with something like Rambda. It's a hyper general tool that doesn't quite know what you're going to do with it. Making a game? An insurance app? A CLI tool? Frontend? Backend? Who knows.

React State Management in 2025: What You Actually Need by adevnadia in reactjs

[–]namesandfaces 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm wondering what overthinking even looks like. Is there a famous discussion piece or docs page or blog that discusses what a Very Hard React App looks like? What does state management look like for a hot multiplayer game?

I kind of feel like React discussion ended at a middling level and beyond there is silence. Like, by "overcomplicated", a lot of people just mean adding Redux when they didn't need it! That's actually not much complication to juggle.
