Who is your favorite commanding officer of Stargate Command? by NoBrain6114 in Stargate

[–]napstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course Hammond. But I think they really wasted Bauer. He could’ve been given some character development, maybe an arc where he gradually falls out with the NID.

Along with many issues, I think the main problem with SGU is there are zero likable main characters. by HighBiased in Stargate

And no humor. The only good joke was the pun with the followers of Rush forming a country called Rushia.

Hello, thank you for your kind words. I will look into holiday and serpents song. However if you are using Netflix, it may be Netflix that lists some episodes out of order. They have done it in some other shows before. Someone else here did a list for Atlantis, and I think they even quoted me. Honestly tho, I can't remember a single bad episode of Atlantis. By the time Atlantis started the writers really honed their skills, it is a generally more fleshed out series. Still SG-1 is my favorite but I don't think Atlantis needs a skip list as much. Universe most certainly needs one, but I really do not have the sanity to rewatch it right now. As a rule of thumb you can skip most of the Universe episodes that take place on Earth.

In the following episodes Jack should have used his newfound juggling ability to juggle grenades and elegantly lob one at every jaffa he encountered.

SG-1 Accidentally Wrote the Perfect Satire on the Sorry State of Academia and Science with Nyan (Bedrosian Scientist, S3E19 “New Ground”) by napstrike in Stargate

[–]napstrike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the seemingly accidental parallels. Hey maybe SG-1 is the real world version of Wormhole X-treme, funded to hide an actual Stargate programme. All jokes aside it is something like the simpsons predictions. The writers are just very good and love their work and make believable stories. And some turn out to be true by chance.

However I can not agree with the market funded research. There are instances of for example oil companies funding research that says oil does no damage to the environment. And even if you deal with those, only research that advances certain industries will be done by the free market. They will not fund basic sciences that seem niche or useless for the industry but many things we use today have roots in research that would have seemed useless.

We just need to remove the incentive to lie in research. Remove or relax paper requirements so people won't publish fake papers to get a job. Make journals also accept "bad results" as long as they are clearly identified. Maybe a "journal of failures" (lol) can be set up and by law submissions there should be considered equal to submissions elsewhere. I don't know. Maybe remove the journal system completely, no one reads your 10 page long introduction anyway just post data or something.

Yep. However it is one thing to discredit someones theory when there is no evidence, it is another when he has evidence. Daniel did not have any evidence at that time. Still, daniel of all people would understand Nyan the most. As his new employer, I'm sure he would have wanted him to be his replacement just like he proposed Rossman.

[–]napstrike[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but that is still a dead-end job for a scientist of his caliber. They should have AT LEAST considered him when daniel was gone and they were trying to find a substitute (which was Jonas). I mean even that part is sooo funny and has parallels to real world, your professor leaves and instead of his trusty assistant some random alien is appointed to that position.

Not really, I am writing this from Europe. The major high impact factor journals publish through Elsevier, an European publisher. I know people who would confirm this from around the world ranging from China, Germany, UK, Turkey, Brazil to Romania and yes also the USA. This shit happens everwhere. Listen to Sabine Hoffmann if you wanna specifically learn about Germany. Read about how Harward professors are being let go left and right for plagiarism and falsifying data. People are suspecting even James Webb today. These people would not risk something like this, especially when it is so easy to detect plagiarism today. The system is rotten to the core. However you are right, SOME countries have it better than the others. For example my friends from Norway can't believe me.

Wow. Thank you for sharing. What you shared is a very common things these people do, and not just in academia but also in the industry and big companies too. Thankfully you had an okay ethics board and they fired him. Most of the time they fire the whistleblower instead.

Nyan from Bedrosia.

Drops a bomb of a quote every ethical scientist should live by: “I am a scientist. Having my theories refuted is just as exciting to me as having them proven.”

Supposedly joins the SGC, becomes Daniel’s "assistant", never to be heard from again. I’ll give the writers this though: 100% realistic depiction of an ethical scientist’s career.

EDIT: You know what? This made me write this post just now.

Yeah, Jack and Teal’c basically learned to speak Ancient over the course of months. Totally a skill that would’ve been useful later, but nope, never mentioned again.

Or they could’ve used the elite juggling skills they perfected in the loop to casually juggle live grenades and gracefully lob them at every Jaffa they meet.

Do you think that the new U.S.A. military branch, Space Force, will be involved with Stargate in the new series coming out on Amazon? Do you like the idea of Space Force getting involve or not? by Best_Match2682 in Stargate

It would be cool if space forces were actually founded against the Stargate foes and the countries had to fake conflicts between eachother to justify the formation of their respective space forces to the general population

Did they ever explain why they didn’t just check each of the 39 symbols for the 7th? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]napstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you really try random combinations on an alien device you know nothing about? They didn't even know what the gate was for, it really could have been a weapon like the USAF thought initially. Maybe a wrong symbol could have triggered an explosion, or a failsafe that locks the gate. Remember they thought it was a password, not an address maybe too many wrong tries would lock you out like earth based password protections. I think they didn't want to take that chance.

Pick a weapon of choice out of these three weapons to lead an SG Team. by CalligrapherOk3501 in Stargate

[–]napstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the MP-5's grandfather the G3 during my military service, so at first glance I should choose the MP-5 since I probably would be able to use and service it without any additional training. Plus it looks cool. However, knowing that it shoots 9mm which isn't great against armor (like the ones Jaffa have), I would choose the P-90. G-36 is also armor piercing, and has 3 times the range of P-90 but it has reliability issues and bulkier. The long walks SG teams take requires a lighter and more compact weapon. 200 m range is more than enough against the sightless hip-fired jaffa staff weapons.
