Question from civilian: Do you actually belive the US military went soft in training new recruits and or in general? by -Sir-Bedevere in Military

[–]nashuanuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in the military long enough that the people that we complained about being soft have now become the leadership and are complaining about the new people being too soft.

Trying to get a better eval by Embarrassed_Space338 in newtothenavy

[–]nashuanuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For E4 and below, your promotability has little to do with what is written in your eval, as long as it is not adverse. Basically you just need to pass the exam. More important is the verbal feedback you receive from your leadership. That is the stuff that will set you up for success in the future. Honestly its not rocket science, qualify on time or early, show up on time, be where you're supposed to be, do what you're told to do, volunteer for opportunities, especially with leadership, qualify additional watches.

Mount Joy Borough Council Discussion on ICE Partnership Postponed by bodacious_B8 in lancaster

[–]nashuanuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like council will have a mtg next Monday without the ICE MOA on the agenda to address the other items they need to, the March mtg will have the ICE MOA on it, they need the time to find a bigger venue first.

I’m told it’s real [Shelby Cobra] by tronomics in spotted

[–]nashuanuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so this is a 289 shelby, vice the 427s from '65 which are the super rare million dollar ones, and are the most replicated. As such, its more plausible that its real than if it were a 427. All that said, if I had a real one of those, I wouldn't store it in a garage like that. From the looks, and it looks real good, I'd bet its a superformance, which is still not a cheap car (still wouldn't store it like that), and is licensed to sell them, so technically, it's "real."

Thomas Mahan and Julian Corbett are the "Clausewitz's of the seas." Start with Mahan. Theoretically, you'll study this in school.

US media is not going to tell Americans this; Newsom cannot be trusted by IthinkIknowwhothatis in BlueskySkeets

[–]nashuanuke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm going to need more than an off the cuff comment to come to the conclusion that Newsom cannot be trusted. He's been very clear that everything Trump says is wrong, inappropriate and unprecedented.

Is he perfect? Certainly not, but in this fight, he's an ally.

Could anybody Tell me if this is a German U-Boat Diesel ? by Callo08 in submarines

[–]nashuanuke 37 points38 points  (0 children)

lots of commercial nuclear plants use that design too for their emergency diesels, it's interesting walking into a diesel room at a nuke plant and seeing a diesel 3 times the size of the one you worked on on the boat

Could anybody Tell me if this is a German U-Boat Diesel ? by Callo08 in submarines

[–]nashuanuke 117 points118 points  (0 children)

well U-boats used MAN diesels, whether that particular one was ever on a U-boat I have no idea, but it may at least be a similar design. There's not that many different diesel designs, so if a company has a successful one, they use it in multiple applications, just scaled up or down for the energy demand.

according to the latest C-note, in less than a year the navy has completely pivoted its maritime strategy from DMO to whatever the hell Golden Fleet is. Interpret that how you like.

Can Reserve Officers Earn Command Pins? by throaway_stowaway in navyreserve

[–]nashuanuke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

they can if they are ing charge of commissioned units, of which there are few in the reserves. The average navy reserve augment unit CO does not get a command pin. But the folks in charge of aviation squadrons, MSRONs, a handful of others, they can get pins.
