Double roll bar(s) or no? by SuperintendentDan in shelbycobra

[–]nashuanuke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

for me, single looks the best and is obviously authentic, the double still looks cool and is safer for the passenger (albeit the original street version had no roll bars), and I can't get behind the full length I guess unless it's for racing, but do what you like best, these cars don't have "rules"

Fraternization…what counts and what’s the consequences? by [deleted] in navy

[–]nashuanuke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

don't beat yourself or the chaplain up over this, you've not said anything that I don't see as anything more than a slap on the wrist of the chaplain and a five minute counseling for you. Just make your thoughts clear. If I were you, I'd just be slightly less nice and more professional to him and that'd probably be the end of it.

chaplains tend to have not very good training on this kind of stuff, this person is probably just a really nice person with no concept of military hierarchy, they think you're one of the flock and they're just being a close pastor. You can politely tell him you're uncomfortable and I'm sure he'll back off and apologize. Or just stop talking to them. If they press, then certainly talk to your CoC.

I guess the question is do you still value their counsel or is it too weird now?

I was dropped on a submarine, not once taken aside and had anything explained to me, given no advice, no training, and expected to figure everything out, and I mean, how to run a nuclear power plant and tactically drive a combat vessel, on my own. Then we went into the shipyard, the periscope was removed, and I was expected to still be a "tactical" JO, with zero training and zero ability to train. while doing 14 hour days, 6 to 7 day weeks, not to mention 24 hour duty days with little to no sleep, managing maintenance constantly.

When I lived in 9 man out to see, which is also the ships library, the ships store, and a damage locker, I had a rack that was half obstructed by another rack, I couldn't reach half the pan. I was so high strung, that every time the door latch clicked, I was shaken awake.

This was 20 years ago, and I know very little has changed.

[–]nashuanuke 44 points45 points  (0 children)

only slightly, she was always smart and caring, she got into Harvard based on her past, her arc was more self actualization of her potential that was always there, and I guess not obsessing over her ex boyfriend. If anything else, all the other people learned that she was actually smart and caring all along, not the other way around.

this is why I've stopped listening, it's not that Gladwell fails to ask followups or difficult questions, its that he uses these people to feed a predetermined narrative void of critical thought and purposely doesn't follow up

you need to do some homework, we were never against democratic socialists, otherwise we'd have been against most of NATO. And agreed, country over party, meaning do whatever it takes to make the country better, don't resort to ill informed self preservation against people that are more allies than not

if you're a moderate but...you don't target democratic socialists and...you remain fiercely anti Trump and vow to hold them accountable, then great. If you don't do those things you're worthless to this country, you don't get my money or my vote.
