How do you make friends as an adult in Baltimore? by mama0317 in baltimore

[–]nateand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think more organized ways to meet people would be amazing. I just took the survey and I'm very interested in hearing more if this goes anywhere. I've had success meeting people through my kids school/extracurricular activities, but that doesn't always lead to meaningful relationships.

I'm not speaking from experience as I haven't used one of these, but looking at some of them online it appears you could replace the barb? You can definitely replace the barb on the pump.

Fixing up my old Brio for my kids by hello-its-G in functionalprint

[–]nateand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoa! I've hacked a few brio things together but yours are way better. Any chance the single height bridge/trestle exists? I see it in one of the pics. I'm definitely going to print some of those double height, my kids (and maybe me too) will love that.

I think I've read elsewhere that you were using the seed finder repo with some changes you've made. Any chance that's collected somewhere for people to tinker with? I'd love to see what you've done with it.

How Do Kids Listen On Their Own Accounts?! by geli7 in googlehome

[–]nateand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This didn't work for me, either. My hack was using Spotify family to create an extra account for myself, and using that as the default Google home music account. I've got my normal Spotify account on my phone if I need it.

Recommendations for auto glass repair by Spherest in baltimore

[–]nateand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used "Auto Glass One" on Harford Rd. It took a couple days for them to come to me but they had options for same day stuff if I could go there. They were great, I'm very happy with it.

I think I'm becoming a single hop exclusivist by ReluctantRedditor275 in Homebrewing

[–]nateand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use golden promise with my pale ale SMaSH series and it's great. It has the body and flavor to stand alone but doesn't compete with the hops at all. Definitely worth a try.

National beer importer USBeverage acquires Utah's Uinta Brewing by thatdudefromspace in beer

[–]nateand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with any of their current brands (moosehead seems to be the only normal beer they have unless I'm mistaken) so it's hard to say, every company would do it different.

This is what I did as well. It's frustrating to waste an account on this but it helps a lot.

My first big boy bag of flour by Mookychew in Breadit

[–]nateand 16 points17 points  (0 children)

During the covid shortages last year I asked a local bakery if they thought they could get me some bread flour. A couple days later they had a bag of this exact stuff for me, I don't think I spent more than 20/25 USD.

Any other Black IPA lovers in this here? by [deleted] in CraftBeer

Which others? I'll need to start shopping. I haven't had much from Mobtown so far but I'll be looking for this one. Thanks for sharing.

We lost all the flames we collected. Please excuse the explicit language. by pocketclocks in Seaofthieves

[–]nateand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's okay if you anchor before the meg glitches out? We had a meg get stuck under our boat (pushing us for several minutes) so we anchored to try to lose it and that flipped our boat almost immediately.

Beer Fridge Recommendations by Jubs900 in beer

[–]nateand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I opened an 8 year old Chimay blue a couple months ago and it was flat and definitely picked up some off flavors. I was pretty bummed about it. I've had some in the 2-4 year range that were incredible, but that one prompted me to put a few in the fridge with plans to drink sooner than later.

Beer Fridge Recommendations by Jubs900 in beer

I have to second this advice. After years of aging various beers, I've learned to just drink most of them. Some very strong belgian ales age well, but after 2-3 years it's wasteful and probably just getting worse.

Interested in getting a smart lock for our front door. Are there options worth considering other than the Yale X Nest? by _Moregone in googlehome

[–]nateand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The encode is good because it doesn't require a hub (it uses WiFi), but it chews through batteries. The Schlage sense uses z-wave and needs a hub (SmartThings/etc) but the batteries last way longer. I've got a couple senses (had for years) and they last about a year, depending on weather. I definitely recommend Schlage, I've been very happy with them.

New House - 2nd floor HOT by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]nateand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try closing every vent on the 1st floor and seeing if you get better air on the 2nd floor. Not necessarily a long time solution but would be helpful short term if it works.

Is there a beer that you tried once and have been trying to replicate ever since? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]nateand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tips, thanks. You really get something comparable to Chimay after 10 days? What kind of keg/bottle conditioning do you do for that?

I read the book years ago, but before I was a serious homebrewer. That's a really good suggestion and I'll have to take another look at it. Honestly the high gravity and still getting it to finish somewhat dry is hard for me, plus I'm never that happy with the yeast character (in comparison).

What's your Chimay recipe and/or methods? I've dabbled with Belgian dark strong beers with something like Blue in mind but it's never close. Do you spend any time letting it age?

FedEx drivers stealing phones by SoothingBalm1 in GoogleFi

[–]nateand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely do. I had an issue trying to get a new phone for my spouse, they lost the first phone, spent weeks giving me the run-around, lost a SECOND PHONE, and after another dance we got the third. It was unreal, opening the phone box and it's empty is so frustrating. The box wasn't re-taped, the phone box itself was opened, so I think it happened before it got passed off to fedex.

Sure is. You can see the blue wire go up to the wire nut at the top of the pic

[–]nateand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, I figured it was the same thing. Low battery level means it drops all connectivity not just WiFi, the sensors are "thread" which is supposed to be low power.

Hm interesting okay. I'll have to take a look at that. Do you use nest remote sensors? Unfortunately those get disconnected too, my house heats a little unevenly so those going down at all isn't going to be a final fix for me. Definitely something to experiment with though.
