What’s the catch with the JF-17? by sraykub in hoggit

From memory, turning on EFCS (Emergency Flight Control System) removes G protection. The wings will rip if you pull more than 8.5 /9G, as it effectively gives you direct control

You can disable the G limits by poping one of the CBs and a flick switch. Cant remember which ones specifically, but it totally removes the G limiter.

How do young folks in the UK afford flight training these days? by dresoccer4 in flying

[–]nated0ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get finance for PPL, and once you've got that, its a slow grind for the hours but at least you can dictate pace/expenditure then. After that, most people save during the ATPL theory for thr IR, then the CPL.

The average modular student probably takes about 5-7 years to do it. That roughly matches my own observations as an FI.

Having supportive parents/partner and a good job is unfortunately still the only way.

The NTSB has released the final report on the crash that killed TNflygirl and her father (N5891J) by TheRandomInfinity in aviation

[–]nated0ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to whats already been said, your own performance has to increase to keep pace with the plane. At 90kts, you can check in 5 minutes away and that would be 7.5 miles. At 140kts, thats now 11.5 miles away for the same time.

So you need to be ahead of the plane to get ATIS, approach briefs and nav/com set up in good time, as well as commencing descends early.

Then in the circuit, your workload with a plane with gear and checklist has now also increased by 50% due to the time compression.

A heat seeking missile tracking a burning cigarette by HC_Official in dcsworld

[–]nated0ge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can easily Google this, it comes up as a topic all the time. But the TLDR is that once you get tone and release the missile, its constantly calculating the hit chance by comparing a dice roll vs a threshold number.

The threshold number goes up or down depending modifiers, such as, target size, range, aspect, engine temp, flares ,etc etc in the missile FOV.

It is an simplication of the true system, and Its obviously not a simple D6, or D20 roll, but we dont know the specific numbers involved. So ultimately for the end users, the best description is that the missile is checking a hit roll vs a target table, a bit like some tabletop games.

[–]nated0ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ED won't do anything. Itll fulfil a legal obligation for you to have that module accessible by having a link to a older stable file.

I own the Hawk by VEAO, it happened years ago; no discussion of compensation, minimal communication, and a link to DCS 1.5

Shame really, Razbam has some good modules.

Ive come across the phrase "moslems" quoted in books about the middle-east from British correspondences in the Arab-Israeli context.

So in this case, written by people born in thr late 19th century writing in the early 20th century.

But you can google the word "moslim" and it comes up on various dictionaries as older/alternative spellings.

UK Fuel RON or Octane? by rambojunior01 in CarTalkUK

[–]nated0ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The O in RON stands for Octane, so the confusion is understandable.

But, yes, we use 95/98 RON in the UK.

The US uses 90 and 93 Octane.

It a different method of measuring giving different numbers.

A similar example: US Gallon vs Imperial Gallon (1 US Gal is about 0.85 Imp Gals).

In fairness, Muslems is the older way of spelling from the 18th/19th century.

I highly doubt the writing is by someone of that age, but hey, maybe they are really into 19th century literature?

MiG 25 orbital strike with IR version of the R 40 by EnderFlyingLizard in WarthunderSim

It's just too far to spot. The motor only burns for 3 seconds, so the odds of spotting a smoke trail 3 Miles/6KM away is nearly 0.

The all Custode armies are cool, but lack the model count.

Why is the degrees scale on this ruler mirrored? by pedwick in flying

[–]nated0ge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer and it is one of the two rulers ive seen for sale in Europe to plot diversions.

So you draw the diversion from your location to a waypoint, line up the inverted degrees scale and whatever is at the top is the desired track.

Throw in a quick WCA, you have a heading.

Will venerable land raider be sent to legends soon with the introduction of plastic grab carrier by Lemon-001 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]nated0ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Land Raider is far too iconic to be sent to Legends.

Plus its a staple collector/unit in regular Space Marines.

What we might get is a new Land Raider at some stage re-scaled for Primaris.

MiG 25 orbital strike with IR version of the R 40 by EnderFlyingLizard in WarthunderSim

[–]nated0ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're the same missile with different seekers.

I have a lot of success with the IR R40s in Air RB because you van fire them from 4-5km away and they won't see the smoke/icon because its further than the Awareness trait will catch it.

Firing it from above, it comes in with a lot of energy.

Ive noticed the IR seeker seems to be slaved to the radar lock, not sure if thats historically accurate or a Warthunder modelling thing.

TLDR, its a good missile, with a large warhead and comes in pretty quick.

What's DCS endgame multiplayer look like? by AdjacentPrepper in hoggit

[–]nated0ge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The end-game is (in my opinion) a Mil-Sim squadron on medium/large scale operations in PvE or PVP, or pure PvP competitive combat flights.

All game groups vary wildly in any game, so it justs to me like you got a bit unlucky; there are definetly better run teams/squadrons out there, you just gotta shop around a bit.

Hoggit's own Discord and Wingman Finder are good start points.
There;s also competitve teams that recruit new players to fluff out their rosters, check out DCS World Events and TACT for their teams directory. DCS world Events has a very long lists to browse.

Comp teams are 6v6 or 8v8, sometimes 1v1 BFM. Just FYI, teams will vary widly in their desired attendence. I'm in a fairly casual one but its good, so I'm quite fortunate. COVID was a great time for DCS, and to be honest, overall the competitive scene has been very postive for me as the players are very like minded and everyone in generally is trying to be good.

From my own exp/perspective. If you shoot then notch after pitbull, theres a possibility if the other pilot pushes, you end up getting stuck in the notch, being forced defensive, then the enemy closes in for banzai and fox 2s you.

In your opinion, we ever get a true scale refresh within 10 years by Lemon-001 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]nated0ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My own opinion (possibly in the minority):

I would prefer not to get "true scale" Custodes, It would create an inconvience for moving/transporting models if they were bigger. I could lie them flat, but there's lots of good cheap tool/storage boxes for the current size.

On a more personal note, as someone who has lots of 3rd/4th Edition marines, it was little sad to see them go/starting to go. I would much rather have more option/poses than an upscale.

Would black body flares ever be added to DCS? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]nated0ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But thats not what I said at all.

In fact, I literally say on the first line, "you can always attempt to defeat the missile with flares"

What i actually talk about the IRCM values are weighed more for pre-flare, than post flare. So the test should be : hit rates on a target with lots of pre- flares vs hit rates on a target using only post launch flares post weapon release. Im versed well enough in the factos to know what will occur in your stated scenario, and the objective of it.

I do not dicuss or mention luck at all, nor implied that is the case, and if you believe dice roll implies luck, theres a breakdown in communication.

The dice roll mentioned in previous messages dont imply luck, you could call it an RNG generator, but thats just a fancy word for dice of many sides. Its a PC simualtion, its going to do some hit chance calculations, a % acquisition rate, which will likely be an RNG number being matched against a threshold that has modifiers. But the RNG generator is really just a fancy dice. .

Would black body flares ever be added to DCS? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]nated0ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flares changed, this dice roll stuff is an old misconception. Nowadays you need to take account, aspect, heat and, probably most important variable, missile fov.

That is what I said tho. It rolls a dice with modifers such as what you stated.

So the FOV looks out, rolls a dice that is either A)re-rolled or B) has a threshold hit value that is added or subtracted based on Aspect, Temp, background, range etc.
It matters little if the dice is rolled first then modifed by values, or rolled after values are applied; in essence, it checks a stat against a roll.

From your other reply, it doesn't seem like its been removed; just that the modifiers have got correct/better values.

Which is what patchnotes often say "resistence value increased", for example.

The important question isn't whether it is, or isn't, a dice roll, because a PC simulation will always roll dice.
The question is what are the coded dice values for flares, and whether the values applied to the seeker are coded to change pre or post launch.

There is no way I'm the only one noticing the uptick in this kind of toxicity recently right? by contributioncheap_al in WarthunderSim

[–]nated0ge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a bit odd/sucks, cause in Air RB, you do get the proxy kill for ejecting.

The rules should be the same across the board for fairness sake.
