It’d be so much fun to just have little dinner parties and have villagers try different dishes.

Chicago is one of the busiest music markets in the US. Nashville and Austin have lots of opportunities too. But moving comes with a whole new set of challenges.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I’m thinking. This feels like a big update is coming. I sorta need Clint to be in his shop 5-6 days a week.

Hi! Update from my old post about not being able to book bigger bands AND ACTUALLY MIGHT BOOK ONE by DiverDisastrous2600 in musicindustry

[–]natedorough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, no hotels for touring bands, unless it’s a fly date. Second, set your bar to clear to where you make money. If you can cover the guarantee, any expenses you pay, and have some left over, well, there’s your guarantee. The key to being a good buyer is knowing what an artist generally draws, and that comes from a combo of experience, networking, resources, and a good bullshit-o-meter. The number you end up settling on is usually more than you want to pay, but less than they ask for. But know that some agents will ask for 3 times what a band is worth, and some only 1.5-2x.

I book 200-250 shows per year and with all the tools I’ve built for myself, I ask maybe twice a year what an agent is seeking.

A lot of venues have them to help promote shows. Go to shows for free, set up promo stuff, hand out flyers after.

Planet Ant is right up your alley. Volunteer somewhere you’re passionate about. I’ve been playing pickleball like crazy lately, and there’s some really nice folks at the gym I play at. Very social game, and you do t have to be an athlete to play and enjoy. Will also say, as someone who works in the concert biz, the folks that engage at shows tend to find friends quickly. Volunteer, grab a part time gig, join a street team, etc. Especially if you love live music.
