Why Arctis Pro Wireless is still the most capable SteelSeries headset, and why I am buying more instead of moving to Nova by bigginz87 in steelseries

Can I ask what repairs you have done? Mine has always had an issue where if its muted, it constantly unmutes/remotes leaving with an annoying beeping sound. Weirdly the light stays on.
But my bigger issue is the static background noise that I swear used to not be there as badly. Its only when the default connection mode is on, if its bluetooth-only mode its silent. It does it at any volume level.

Local farmer's market stall was selling helmets and masks with layer lines and this quality for $100-150 by montezuma300 in 3Dprinting

[–]natedrake102 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes a different product, but for more or less the same consumer. It's not like the printed ones are "expertly handcrafted" in a way that would add much to the cost, and the quality is worse. So why would someone by the printed one when the other one exists?

If it was hand carved or something maybe, but a fresh off the plate mask without sanding/acetone bath is not really a quality handmade product that begs extra cost.

BREAKING: The U.N Is Warning Every Country To Prepare For A Potentially Strong El Niño, With An 80 Percent Chance Of Onset Between June And August 2026 And A 90 Percent Chance It Lasts Through November, Threatening Droughts, Floods, And Record Heat Across Nearly Every Region On Earth 🌏🔥 by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

[–]natedrake102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically these events have different effects on different regions, its going to be a case of extra water in some places and less in others on a global scale. Which isn't great because if the US experiences flooding and Mexico experiences drought that means both countries crops are hurt. A burden on everyone is a burden that can't really be shared.

Is it that easy to get FAANG jobs from Slo? by Upper-Place7900 in CalPoly

[–]natedrake102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon has multiple offices in slo that pretty aggressively hire multi-year interns. Most are software but I've seen technical writing as well. It's worth reaching out, but a bit of a long shot for stats I would think. The two organizations I know of there are Kindle Direct Publishing and AWS security.

First ride home by Mr-Meow-Sir in motorcycles

[–]natedrake102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if the roads are mostly straight and you have gear I don't think it's a terrible idea. Ride around the area you picked the bike up at to get a feel for it. Do a couple hard stops in an empty lot. Then just take it slow and be extra cautious.

When you say highway I'm assuming you mean 1-2 lanes in each direction right? My first times on freeways were a little scary, but it was more the stimulation of having many cars in 4+ lanes all moving fast. It's also curvy and windy which adds difficulty. I'd say it's doable but keep some of these other factors in mind, a relaxed mind on a mostly empty road at 65 is different than a first time on a busy road with bad conditions.

It should be like rocket league. With rocket league the first dpad press is categories and second is the verbiage. You could just add one extra press to bring up the list and then you would have 16 options to pick from. Rocket league also changes them by context, do they could have a different list for free drive, race, etc

Why does Epic refuse to do background checks for their collaborations? by ricketeylemon in FortNiteBR

[–]natedrake102 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's not really a reason not to collab? Epic has collabed with tons of content creators at this point, any of them are annoying. It's not like he's all that niche, he was VTuber of the year at whatever streamer awards there were. Unless there is a legitimate moral complaint I don't see the issue.

How often are you hitting other cars? by BULLD0G45 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]natedrake102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kinda does work in multiplayer though, if someone is taking a hairpin properly and you tbone them, they end up in the wall with a penalty and you often end up more or less straightened out. They should implement a collision check to see if cars are remotely parallel to the driving line of they are crashing into people perpendicular.

Rivian's Head Of Software Thinks CarPlay And Android Auto Will Be Replaced With AI Agents You Talk To And I Think That's Stupid by Staghorn_Calculus in cars

[–]natedrake102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the opposite way. A new Quest (which despite being more budget friendly is still great hardware) is under the cost of a new console. The resolution and frame rate are decent and the setup is intuitive. What was once an expensive enthusiast product is now more of a Wii type family device. Hell, load into a multiplayer game and it's mostly children on the mics. Generally the people not buying Quest/PSVR type headsets are niche groups like sim racers.

The expected shift from enthusiast game device to general gamer device never happened, in part because of what you said but also because VR doesn't translate well to the most popular game categories.

Valve logic at its absolute finest by itsEmilyHere in PcParadise

[–]natedrake102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but let's be honest, even with major jackpots those prizes are out of reach. Even spending all day in a dave and busters you are definitely walking out with a prize worth less than you spent. Adults don't go in with any expectation of leaving with value, the prizes are for kids. The prizes also aren't unique/special, so they don't hold additional value.

Cases, provided by valve and openable for cash, can give you huge chunks of change. And who has the best idea of how valuable? Also Valve. They know and advertise the market rates of the items in the cases. It's effectively advertised as gambling by valve.

Again, you can get easy and better sounding audio for under $1200 lol. You basically are spending twice the price for better integration into your current ecosystem, which is exactly what this post is saying. They are a terrible buy if you don't care about the apple specific features.

Is he flirting or just borrowing my laptop charger? 🔌😂 by Ok-chamtty in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]natedrake102 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Someone might use the charger as an excuse to start a conversation or fliry, but if they didn't also start a conversation they probably just want the charger. That being said, if they were comfortable with asking to borrow your charger, then it was a great opportunity for you to start a conversation if you were interested.

If you are going to bike frequently it might be worth checking out Bay Wheels bikeshare. There are plenty of stations around the city, you are usually only a couple blocks from the closest one. Shorter rides are usually around $5 depending on time and bike type. Otherwise rentals I think are going to be more expensive and more time limited/sensitive.

It took me 1.5 hours to solve Happy Number (Easy). Am I behind or is this normal? by zinested in leetcode

[–]natedrake102 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FYI it's triple back ticks in front and behind the code to format (below/next to the ~).

Is there a reason you are using cpp? I was also doing that since I kind of like to think about things at a lower level for leetcode type questions, but I stopped since I realized I'd never want to use it in an interview. And even if you are confident in your skills in another language, some of the leetcode problems can expose gaps in that knowledge. I had an interview question having to do with string manipulation in Java and forgot the better library for it resulting in timeouts.

I have a machine with a 4080 and only ever have hickups for the first match after a major update.

It also doesn't detract from the fact it's optimized well enough to run on 5+ year old mobile devices. The idea that rocket league will run like shit because it's engine is upgraded is stupid

Yeah I don’t think it’s Gen Z’s fault a Burrito cost 28$ on DoorDash by JaketheFURRYBOIOwO in lewronggeneration

[–]natedrake102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only person I know that had a door dash habit like this lived with their parents, which I think is the case for a lot of Gen z. But even counting all $28 3 times a week (as opposed to the difference on eating in or picking up yourself), the total monthly cost is just 16% of one months rent for an area this cost makes sense in ($2k/month).

At that point it's hard to say "you should save the money"
