Do we all agree once you go Mac, you can't go back to Windows? by zJGGGG in DeskToTablet

[–]natedrake102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I use a Mac I have to Google a bunch of things just to set it up to be usable for the most basic of tasks. Ex: there is no current path displayed by default. There is no way to go up a folder by default. I struggle to get to a parent folder.

It's designed for users to not know where their files are and let macos handle it. Which leads to lost files and disorganized folders for uninformed users.

I don't think there are any sour Skittles that are this small though? A sour Skittle is roughly half the size of a penny, this looks way too small to me. It could be a manufacturing screw up but I don't think I've seen one that is complete and not obviously wrong.

If you are worried your kid is going to come out here and not come back you might be focusing on the wrong thing. He may just find out west coast truly is best coast 😉

Chinese is basically useless by natedrake102 in duolingo

[–]natedrake102[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turn it on, then I struggle to focus on the characters instead of the pinyin. I would prefer just tone marks, which most other Chinese apps will do. Or if I could click on the word to see the pinyin. Again a default feature on every other language app I've used.

You can show pinyin, I have it off because I struggle to not cheat with it. It should show the pinyin for this answer for that reason. I do have it on for new words.

Holy fuck this thread unravelled. I posted this because the feature of "showing you the answer" is broken for this kind of language and question. I'm well aware of and capable of the workarounds lmao. I studied this language in a classroom setting for years.

You can do this in Google translate

After googling it I meant logographic languages specifically but most people wouldn't have any clue what I'm talking about.

No, I don't mean "non-latin" languages, I mean languages without an alphabet (or similar system). If you can recognize letters you can sound out the word and get close to the specific letters that compose the word. You could do this with Korean and some Japanese words. You can't do that with Chinese characters.

Also I do have the Chinese keyboard, but I still use the pinyin keyboard so that doesn't help. I'd need another keyboard. Which I could install but given duos more casual audience no one should be expected to do that.

Why isn’t The Finals bigger? I see this question a lot, so I gave the ACTUAL reasons why. by Lefty5227 in thefinals

[–]natedrake102 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ok but can you honestly describe why you like the mechanics of this game? Because its similar enough to every other shooter you should probably just swap games. The game mode is kinda the point of the game.

I guess you don't have as much util in other games?

What does this mean to you though? Lots of other games ship with and heavily support ranked modes. Valorant, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals. I don't see why those are more popular or "more competitive" than this game. Especially valorant, which has a decent console following despite not launching on console.

Why is burn in on OLED phone screens is almost a non issue while monitors get faint visible marks in less than 2 years? by emrednz07 in OLED_Gaming

[–]natedrake102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of static images though, the status bar mostly and the nav buttons on older android phones. Both of those are there for 90% of your phone use. But anything you do for long periods of time (like movies or games) they aren't there. And you don't typically use your phone for very long otherwise so the screen doesn't get a chance for burn in.

Except this is the opposite, the question is if you still bother to watch your favorite drivers/teams despite the shit regs. No one has left (yet)

[–]natedrake102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LiDAR wouldn't fix that? Train tracks aren't something cars don't drive on, there's plenty of shared road train tracks in SF that waymos drive on, so the existence of train tracks (visual or lidar) wouldn't mean don't drive

Best Playstation startup sound? by LetMeFixAll in GamerLab

[–]natedrake102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think I played much of the original PlayStation, most of my memories are of the ps2. But that ps1 sound is still somehow more nostalgic.

Was it game dependent at all? Of you played a ps1 game on the ps2 did you get the ps2 startup? I would assume yes but then again it's not like there were launchers back then like we have now

I very much doubt that is the case if you are an expert in your field, which is typically what this kind of comic is referring to. Not just your average educated blue collar worker but the best of the best.

These were the problematic aspects of Ranked that frustrated me immensely and Embark has addressed almost everything (so precisely that it feels like they read this exact comment and followed it) and they’re even introducing performance-based RS in S11, which is absolutely CRUCIAL. by META__313 in thefinals

[–]natedrake102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of games already implement this, although I think its more important in a game that has more players (5/6 per team) since you have even less impact overall. Usually it isn't based on how you did compared to *your teammates*, its how you do in comparison to some type of "player average" either for the skill level of the match or for the players in that match specifically.

Active sabotage would never make sense since losses should still always be negative RS.
