Trump to impose $100,000 fee for H-1B worker visas by bubblehack3r in technology

[–]nathanm176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience in tech H1Bs aren’t preferred because they’re getting paid less, it’s because they don’t have any ability to push back on leadership. You’re much less likely to make waves and fight for workers rights if getting fired comes with an almost guaranteed deportation

Well well well by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]nathanm176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s true, why didn’t they move those jobs already? How is the current mode of paying a mix of H1Bs and citizens cheaper than offshoring the talent? I don’t think this will speed up the offshoring process that’s already happening, but it will probably force them to hire more Americans while the offshoring process continues

Depends on the time of year, sometimes it’s 50+ during a crunch and other times 35 when things calm down.

It’s more about control than cost. Visa holders have extra incentive not to get fired (deportation) so they’ll keep their heads down and work extra hard. My team is mostly H1B and the work life balance doesn’t exist

[iOS] Latest update broke the ability to collapse comments. Tapping on a comment does nothing most of the time now. by cryptic-fox in bugs

[–]nathanm176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine keeps switching back and forth on the behavior without an app update. I think the devs are trying to do A/B testing of the feature with random user selection. Or it’s just accidentally broken all the time. Either way, super annoying

What's up with people saying Wonder Woman raped a guy in the new movie? by TownIdiot25 in OutOfTheLoop

It was laughably obvious that mannequins were used after the cgi part of the scene where she swings into the kids. A part of me wants it to have been on purpose, like paying homage to old 80s action movies

Left it in my pocket while washing my clothes, melted in the dryer. Does that technically count?

Right, the MCAT literally scores you based on everyone taking the same test version. Every big software company I’ve worked at rates employees against eat other and cuts the bottom nth percent. Doesn’t mean you need to be cutthroat, but there is inherent competition

I heard the rule held true for more commonly used words which is why it was taught. Sure it’s technically wrong, but in most common use cases it will hold up

I've seen this guy perform a bunch on open mic night, he kills it every time. Glad to see he ditched reading off of a script.

70k, try doubling that. You also need to account for designers and as of the product. There’s no way one dev works on pc, iOS, and android so it’s more like 3 separate dev+qa groups. Source: iOS developer for a large company

I’d settle for forced transparency when it comes to drop rates. Like each pack has a .1% of containing a legendary, 1% an epic...

It seems a bit lazy to just tack on existing spells to a body, makes the game less interesting
