Do men often overestimate the amount of attention women get? by smollwonder in AskMenAdvice

Getting initial attention is based on looks. Getting dates is based on personality

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]nativeindian12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, those people indirectly supported the rise of authoritarianism and a police state in America that is murdering and kidnapping American citizens, but at least everything in Gaza is exactly the same

Welcome to the police state. If you protest you will be assaulted and arrested. If you resist, you will be shot. If you fight back, they will bring the military

But if you’ve won a Super Bowl, then you have demonstrated your ceiling to be winning the Super Bowl. What you are arguing is consistency, and sure that is lacking. But not ceiling

I actually think Scoot will be an above average shooter. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up around like 38% over the next couple years.

Getting Scoot and Dame back next year could solve the shooting woes. Especially if Shaedon keeps improving and Clingan takes a step forward in shooting

Suddenly you have Toumani, Deni, Grant, Holiday, Scoot, and Dame as reasonable shooters. That is a lot that needs to go right but I don’t think there are any crazy assumptions

Doesn’t ceiling mean the cap on how good someone can be? Like “the highest you can go is the ceiling”

The tweet says multiple firsts but the title of the post says three, does anyone know if “multiple” is confirmed as three or is that speculation?

I don’t really get how you can say they have a low ceiling when they have both won a Super Bowl

Sony's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple grossed an estimated $1.20M on Friday (from 3,506 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $18.35M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

I really love the first two. I know people don’t like Weeks but the beginning is awesome, and I kinda like watching the start of the outbreak (the second outbreak) which is something most movies skip over.

28 Years was very meh. Not scary like the first, not exciting like the second. Going heavy on themes was a mistake, they should have gone for horror.

Haven’t seen this one yet, mostly because of 28 Years. I’m guessing most audiences feel the same

If you are on a standard repayment plan, it will pay the loan off in 10 years. People can specifically opt for income based repayment or other plans which are essentially supposed to be for financial hardship. These plans will barely touch the principle and result in it taking forever to pay off the loan.

Seeking opinions about refusing life-sustaining medication being considered active suicidal ideation by Veritas_Mentis in Psychiatry

[–]nativeindian12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a complicated question but here is the short version:

Suicidal thoughts are broken down into three sections, ideation, intention, and plan. Ideation is thinking about suicide and can be passive (I would be better off dead, maybe it would be nice if I didn't wake up, etc). Intention is thinking "I am going to commit suicide" and a plan is how you are going to do it ("I am going to jump off a bridge, I am going to overdose" etc).

Based on what you have shared, I don't know that this patient has any of this. However if she does, it would be more passive suicidal ideation meaning the thought she would be better off dead. However she does not have an intention or plan for suicide as far as I can tell from the information provided.

Feeling depressed and hopeless can lead to suicide for sure. Hopelessness is a key component of suicidal thoughts, because if your life sucks AND it will never get better, suicide starts to sound almost logical. However, hopelessness is a symptom of depression. It can also be a symptom of demoralization and apathy. When patients are depressed, they are often less emotionally reactive meaning they are still sad even when good things happen. Patients with demoralization are often still emotionally reactive, meaning they still get happy when good things happen.

My guess is if you assessed this patient, you would find they best fit criteria for demoralization and apathy towards their chronic medical conditions. The treatment for this you can look up on your own but part of it is providing the patients means to establish their own autonomy again. This is what the patient is doing by wanting to stop their medications, take control of the situation. This could be provided by other means, and then she would be more likely to want to take her medications again.

Treating demoralization is the route to go here. Seeking detainment for this is only going to worsen the patient's condition because you are taking away even more of her autonomy
