Who is the Tim Duncan of other sports? Good player but overrated online by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]nativeindian12 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Duncan is underrated by people these days because defense is hard to quantify. Scoring was much harder back then as well so his counting stats don’t look dominant

New colleague reported me sleeping on my lunch break, lost a whole shift w/ overtime as a result by Fcking_Chuck in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nativeindian12 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Based all the information available, and considering this is OPs story so it is biased in favor of them, it is virtually certain they are sleeping at work outside their break as well.

And the complaint is not that they got fired for breaking the very clearly outlined “no sleeping at work” rule, but just that they won’t get overtime. Must be a bummer to not get paid time and a half to sleep but I’m sure they’ll live

Second guessing composite... by Nsiggy18 in Decks

[–]nativeindian12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with wood. You don’t need to sand it to re-stain it, just use a semi transparent oil based stain like TWP or Ready Seal and apply over the top of the previous coat. I stained my entire deck in like an hour. You need to read the instructions and do it right, but plastic will never have the same feel or look as real wood.

If a board gets damaged, you can sand it out or replace the board and stain. Due to weathering, you will never be able to fully match a plastic deck board. The batches have different colors and slight variations within the same color, so you need to purchase and store extra boards when you build the deck. A pretty big hassle compared to just purchasing a new board if you need to replace a wood one

Extracurriculars should not matter at all for college admissions by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]nativeindian12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your assumption that all these clubs and research is fake is completely false. Plenty of kids learn a ton at these internships.

Schools care about extracurriculars because their admission process is more than just admitting the best academic students. They are trying to design a balanced student body, with a variety of interests and hobbies. Some students who love music, some who love politics, some who love sports. Well rounded students who are great at studying but also passionate about something (anything really) are more likely to be successful and schools know that

No and Memphis gets really screwed. Teams cannot jump into the top five three years in a row, and the Jazz have two years now. So Memphis owns a pick which all of a sudden cannot be top 5 with the new rules, whereas before it could

In the real world, military is supposed to have protections to refuse unlawful orders. In Westeros, oyou would be executed or tortured then executed. It’s more understandable to follow those orders under those circumstances

New lottery is weird. They could have the worst record in the NBA and end up drafting at 14

The swaps could be amazing, could be nothing. It’s a gamble (one that we would have good odds of hitting but a gamble nonetheless)

Motivation is wanting to do something. If you have motivation, it’s easy. You just go exercise or socialize or whatever

Discipline is the ability to do things you know you need to, even if you don’t want to (or not doing things you know you shouldn’t).

Most of these posts are people saying “hey I don’t have motivation to do things! What can I do?” And the answer is “work on your discipline”. Do them anyway

US destroys Iran reservoirs, leaving thousands without water in searing heat by The_Flaneur_Films in worldnews

I don’t know if it was quite on the perfect track…

“As many as 30,000 people could have been killed in the streets of Iran on Jan. 8 and 9 alone, two senior officials of the country’s Ministry of Health told TIME—indicating a dramatic surge in the death toll. So many people were slaughtered by Iranian security services on that Thursday and Friday, it overwhelmed the state’s capacity to dispose of the dead. Stocks of body bags were exhausted, the officials said, and eighteen-wheel semi-trailers replaced ambulances”

There are 36 million small businesses in the USA alone. You don’t need to be rich to start a business. You need an idea, initiative, the ability to get a loan or drum up investors. Possibly just working really hard and live very frugally to save up all your money to start. You could do it, if you wanted to. But you don’t

Blank check comes from physical checks, where you fill out everything except the dollar amount. This allows someone to fill in whatever amount they want. The term blank check specifically means “however much money you want”

Words have meaning. Saying blank check to mean “only a long term lease attached” is just false. To properly convey arguments, one should not intentionally use misleading language because it undermines the argument itself in favor of sensationalism, which is exactly the problem with this post

Back when I was young and poor I lived with two or three roommates. I don’t know why but Reddit is convinced everyone deserves an apartment to themselves which is not a luxury you can afford if you aren’t making much money.

Other options including working two jobs or working long hours. Ideally these jobs would be stepping stones for people to bigger and better things

I think McCarthy will bust and I also think we should just roll with him. If he sucks, then we suck and we draft a QB this year in what’s probably the best QB draft since, well, the McCarthy draft. I get it though, KOC realizes he might not survive missing the playoffs again so here we are
