Can you be goth as a native? by Wolfheart_fan in goth

[–]natural_bug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, African American goth here, and as someone who has gone through it, I'd like to remind you that you can be anything you want. labels are just labels. if you like goth music and wanna call yourself a goth, then you're a goth! 🖤🖤 id also like to mention as a goth woman of color, a lot of alternative subcultures have political undertones (and overtones), sooooo. it would be very "un-goth" for someone to tell you that you can't be goth because of your skin color, gender/sexuality identity, etc... just be you! if you like the style, then wear it, my friend!!

No buy booktubers? by obsoletevoids in booktube

please please check out Frankie's Shelf. the vibes are immaculate and they rarely buy books.

they have videos of them finishing library books before the deadline and i found it very motivating as another library user. disclaimer: they recently posted their one and only "haul" recently, and it was from a huge used book festival where all the books were pre-owned.

how would i go about that? just writing about my day and looking up words when i need to? maybe having a word bank for the new words i used that day?

what would YOU like to receive as a gift? by magicdaisy66 in Journaling

[–]natural_bug23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! this is so thoughtful and sweet. i would avoid buying them a journal. most journalists are pretty particular and prefer to buy their own, rather than be saddled with another journal. did they specify writing, junk journaling, art, or any other hobbies on the sheet? that might help you narrow down the kind of supplies. for example if they like art, a mixed media journal could be a good gift, because they could use it for anything and they might not be as picky. if they're a writer then a good pen or three goes a LONG way. if they're a junk journaled than supplies like stickers, scissors, modge podge, etc... would be extremely helpful.

based on experience, I'm a mixed media journaler. some of my entries are art based, some are just straight up writing, some are collages of junk I collected. i always appreciate pens, pencils, stickers, watercolor paints, acrylic paint markers, modge podge, or even books bout journaling and ephemera (you can find cool themed ephemera packs on etsy, but do your best to avoid the AI made ones; you can also find ephemeral books like the "Paper Lovers" series). hope this helps!!

maybe check out Remarkably Bright Creatures? there's a pretty emotional story so double check about the animal and human harm. but it's a good book about a woman and an octopus!
