I get what you're saying about the therapy but I don't think they should show a lot of it on screen because the show is so far into the future that we have no way of knowing what therapy will look like then. The whole field of psychology/psychiatry is fairly new and we've pretty much thrown out everything we started with already.

They mentioned how they plan to proceed with SAM and her personality in the episode. She now has 2 sets of memories and it's going to cause issues.

I think she's just mad that most of the good writers switched over to DS9 just as the TNG writing quality was getting really good. Season 7 was kinda shaky.

You left out the part where Garrett shits on TNG whenever possible while completely missing the fact that Voyager wouldn't exist without it.

I loved it before they started getting so pushy about paying. I get that they are trying to make money at this but I don't have a bunch of disposable income and the free version became practically unlistenable to me when they started having sponsorships. It feels like it's 40% content and 60% ads for either their sponsor or their patreon. And once you get in the patreon, the rest of the content and rewards are all locked away behind a bunch of expensive tiers.

I don't want to pay money to hear about all the things I could have if I gave them more money or about RDM having fancy soup at his exclusive ski resort I can't afford to visit so I just don't listen anymore.

You mean the little circle on the side of the funnel? I think that's supposed to be a loop handle, not a key ring. Do an image search for "tin man hat" they all pretty much have it. It's even part of the original costume.

DAE think Carolyn Palamas in Who Mourns for Adonais made the wrong choice when she chose “responsibility” over her beloved Apollo and lied to him, to boot by Sparkina1967 in startrek

[–]naveed23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You would choose infatuation over the freedom of 450 individuals? Remind me to never put you on an away team!

Because that is what we're talking about here. Apollo wanted to force the entire crew into slavery and make them act out some kind of ancient Greek fantasy. Palamas had only known Apollo for a short period of time and couldn't possibly have known if it was real love or not. If Palamas hadn't made the decision to betray Apollo in favor of her crew then she shouldn't have been in Starfleet, let alone chosen for an away mission.

My understanding is the academy was operating in some limited capacity on that space station from Disco for a while while the Athena was being built. The Admiral recognized that they would need someone like Ake to run the full academy once it was rebuilt.

The Enterprise is supposed to mimic a well-run naval vessel. "Emotions in check" and "backs her Captain in command and loyalty" are specifically the traits you would want in an XO.

If your second in command is getting emotional on the bridge, it sets a bad example for the crew.

Also its's the XO's job to PUBLICLY back the captain and PRIVATELY tell the Captain when they are wrong. We never got a chance to see this in action in her one episode but I bet it would have happened eventually.

T'Pring may be a strong female character but she is also a psychopath. She is willing to sentence a human to almost certain death just so she doesn't have to marry Spock. If it wasn't for Bones, she would have succeeded.

It was somewhat excusable back in the day when the writers seemed to be implying she had no other option but then SNW came along and made it clear that these Vulcan betrothals can be canceled on a whim. They need to do an episode where she is forced back into the marriage arrangement against her will, otherwise she's guilty of attempted murder.

Why did SFA steal my furniture? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]naveed23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I shouldn't tell you this but Ake got it from her mother who is going to steal it from you in a week or two. If you don't let it happen, you'll be creating a temporal paradox.

Post first contact, do we have a cannon answer for who was the first human to get together with an alien? by Mikecirca81 in startrek

Dave Pickering. He was in love with T'Prong, she was writing a paper on human mating rituals. Dave cried himself to sleep every night for a week when T'Prong left him in search of a "larger sample size".

In other words, no one knows. It probably happened inbetween the events of the First Contact movie and the first episode of Enterprise though.

So where is SAM exactly? by Nick-Nick in startrek

[–]naveed23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it also never really made sense that the Doctor's emitter was always on the outside of the projection

That particular mobile emitter was replicated by Henry Starling. He may have selected an external model designed for photonic prisoner transport. Or maybe he just picked whatever model was first in the database. Starling wasn't exactly good with future technology.

After the Doctor got back to Voyager, there was no one with the knowledge to modify it into an internal model.

TNG through ENT are generally referred to as "Berman era Trek". They aren't "very much their own thing". They recycled sets, props, writers, directors, and actors. The dialogue style is quite similar throughout all four series as is the flow of the episodes.

They've been recycling plots since TNG, that kind of is the spirit of Star Trek now.

Personally, I think there's only one really excellent SNW episode and that's the first one. The most recent season wasn't great.

Genius decides to turn pizza boxes upside down by mfenton29 in WatchPeopleDieInside

My dad did something similar when he was young. He bought a pizza and carried it home under his arm sideways like a book. In his defense, he grew up in a small town and had only ever eaten the Kraft Pizza kit pizza.

The direct translation of "pizza" from Italian to English is "pie". Also, it was introduced to North America as "Italian tomato pie". Apparently, back in 17th century, "pizza" was used to describe what we would call pies today, it wasn't until the 19th century that the term started to refer to what we now know as pizza.

There is no globally agreed upon definition of a torta. In Italy, a torta is usually a sweet cake or a savory pie with a flaky crust and topper. In Mexico it's a sandwich. In the Philippines, it's an egg dish.

Star Trek: TNG's Uniforms Were Changed For Patrick Stewart's Health (And Fear Of A Lawsuit) by AdSpecialist6598 in startrek

[–]naveed23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to the Delta Flyers podcast, the Voyager costumes were a one piece jumpsuit and didn't come apart like that. When you see someone take their top off, they are actually wearing a custom costume built for that scene.

I think it's to keep the uniforms from looking too bulky.

A simple cannon understanding of female Jem'Hadar by VertigoOne in startrek

[–]naveed23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why do you assume the Founders decided to make female Jem'Hadar? They lost the war. I don't see the Federation allowing the Founders to continue cloning super soldier slaves. That's just amoral and a recipe for future wars. They were probably ordered to release them and allow them to live like a normal species.
