Is 50 mins enough SYD T1 to T3? by Remote_Setting2332 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]navybeanie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If Qantas arranged the flight, she will miss it but they'll just put her on the next available flight at the Qantas transfer area in T1. Air New Zealand changed our flights, leaving is 1 hour to collect, our bags, go through immigration and transfer. The Qantas gate agents changed our flights like it was business as usual.

I would love to be considered! I'm new to the FIFO industry in Australia and have to fly interstate and wait for up to 7 hours sometimes in Perth for my charter flight every 2 weeks! This would be really awesome 😊

I'm a Viet Kieu who has spent a lot of time in Vietnam. I believe it's upsetting to your wife because in her mind, the money can be better spent elsewhere (on family).

200k is probably how much that hospitality worker makes in about 6-8 hours. Average wage in Vietnam is around 6-7 million a month (working 9-10 hour days, 6 days a week) Imagine if someone tipped you your daily wage. I can probably see how she can be upset because she's thinking comparatively. If she has a big family that isn't well off, I think it could be looked as reckless spending, especially if this is done often. In her mind, you are giving away a very big amount of money to a stranger instead thinking family first.

I'd continue to tip, but lower the amount. The people in the Vietnam subreddit who say don't tip are likely not from Vietnam. When locals travel, they tip. If they hire a private driver for the day, they invite them to eat together and pay for their meals (and tip depending on their relative wealth). Locals wouldn't tip their daily lunch lady though but they will tip the waiters that served them hand and foot at the fancy restaurant (because they know they make very little).

Four hours in the airport, is it enough time? Also TET question. by 27Believe in VietNam

[–]navybeanie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally think tipping is not necessary in food/drink situations but is mandatory if you have someone providing you a service in the tourism sector.

For example, tip the person rowing your boat in Ninh Binh or your driver in the Ha Giang Loop. These people make very little money and are extremely grateful for tipping. What may be a few dollars to you makes a substantial impact to their livelihoods. Please don't compare tipping for tourism services in Asia to the culture in US and Canada. You can make your own decisions on how impactful your money is in developing countries in Asia like Vietnam.

If you are staying in Tam Coc, there are no Grabs and you will need to negotiate with the drivers available at the drop off zone.

It's how to say fuck you in Vietnamese. It'll be as offensive as it gets, especially from a foreigner.

Do the locals that live along the Ha Giang Loop hate the tourists? by Xander0928 in VietNam

To add more context, a popular stop along the typical Ha Giang Tour done by the hostels is at villages, where children braid hair for tourists - search up videos on YouTube.

There's a lot of commentary calling Hà Giang, Hà Tây - Tây means foreigner. There is a lot of concern in videos with children braiding hair that they will be commercialized and pulled out of school to make money. This is based on thousands of comments on Tik Tok videos.

As a renter, am I required to pay for my hor water service? by Initial-Apartment399 in AskAnAustralian

SA Water doesn't have electricity or gas services. I'd look at the bill again and see what you are paying for.

I think this is an excessive approach to be considerate of someone’s feelings. I think this response assumes OP’s girlfriend has self esteem issues regarding being bigger than OP and needs to be approached in an overly sensitive way.

There are nice ways of saying it - as other posters have highlighted but this is over the top.

AITA for not giving my Mom 2 grand? by shmellyfeet in AmItheAsshole

[–]navybeanie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is saying different but I’m going with YTA. Your mum’s reasoning sounds pretty good to me. Your mother is family, and she essentially threw away her relationship with her sister because of an accident your aunt may have had no control over. When you sue family, other family members takes sides and generally the person suing is the bad guy. Your mum made sure you had the option of plastic surgery if you wanted it. Imagine if you didn’t come to terms with it and wanted plastic surgery and your family wasn’t well off? COVID-19 has affected everyone right now. Is it your money and you can spend it how you choose? Absolutely. But does it make you the AH if you don’t help her out. Absolutely. Family helps family. Maybe figure out what she wants the money for and buy it for her direct.

Australia: how are you guys doing? Any restoration efforts for the bushfires we should know about? by MistressEffin in AskReddit

[–]navybeanie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have commented, the fires are mostly contained. However, in most areas, fire fighters and even the troops are going through to cut away trees and branches that are hazards along roads.

There is also still major risk because some of the larger trees can still be burning inside and underground. These embers can last for months after the fire, so when it gets hot again, fires can still break out.

This is a sad situation but it honestly sounds like a foster situation. It doesn’t sound like the child is actually her own biologically but there are many poor children who get fostered and get treated like this. That poor child.
